Wedded To The Ruthless Mafia Boss

54. The brightest star

54. The brightest star

Lena hated that Darian was spending too much time on the laptop. She made noise with her voice, singing songs that didn't rhyme with each other, just to get his attention, but he was too busy.

When her noise became too much, he inserted AirPods in his ears to deter the noise from disturbing him.

She prowled the bedroom, looking for nothing in particular. Her main aim was to distract him, but still, she failed. Work must be taking his time, she figured he needed to focus. So, she stopped pacing the room and flopped on the king-sized bed.

Peeking at him as he typed, she wished he would take her in his arms.

She rolled on the bed, struggling to sleep. She continued to toss around until she whirled out of bed and landed on the tiled floor.

"Ouch," she winced in pain, kneading her butt with her hands.

Darian immediately put a halt to what he was doing. "Are you fine?" He asked. When she didn't give a response to him, he went over to where she was sprawled out on the floor, he bent over and looked into her eyes. "Why did you fall off the bed? What will I do with you?" He murmured, scratching his head.

"My arms and butt hurt. Just help with my arms, I can manage the pain in my butt." She said, smiling secretly.

She just achieved her aim.

He jerked her arms gingerly, rolled the sleeve of her pajamas, and rubbed her arms. She loved it, that was the attention she'd been seeking, she pretended to be in pain as Darian helped her to straighten her sprained ankle.

When he was done with both hands, he crouched next to her.

"I knew you were trying to distract me."

"No, I wasn't. I was searching for my hair band, I left it somewhere in the room. I don't know where." She said sharply.

"Your hairband?" He giggled lightly.

"Yeah, that was what I was searching for." She said firmly.

"I see," he took her hand and raised it. "Are you talking about this?" He pointed at the hand that was on her wrist. "You were looking for something that's on your wrist?"

Lena gritted her teeth and snickered, "I didn't know it was here." She was embarrassed he caught her. "Do you ever check your Instagram messages? I sent you a ton of messages, but you have never replied to any of them." She grimaced, slipping his phone out of his pocket, she handed it over to him. "You should check now and reply to my messages."

"I forgot about the Instagram shit," he glanced down at his phone, paying attention to the messages that popped on the screen. "Darian, you should chat more with your wife. Darian, give a response to my messages. Darian, have you seen this movie? Can we see it together when you are less busy? Darian, oh! You just got a new follower. Oh my gosh! She's hot, don't ever reply to her messages. Darian, you do remember that you are my husband right? Darian, do not check out those girls' pictures, I have hot pictures I can send to you." He stopped reading, sighing in frustration, he looked at her and quirked his brows. "Is this what people do on Instagram? Bug their partners with messages? Gosh, I can't even read them all."

"I was bored," she said unapologetically. "You should reply to all the messages I have sent you okay?"

"I am not doing this shit with you. How do I get rid of this Instagram from my phone?"

"No, Darian! Don't do that." She whined. "Okay, I will stop bugging you with messages."

"What hot pictures were you talking about? Can I see them?" He turned to face her.

Lena quickly glanced away before he could meet her eyes. "Never mind," she said shyly. She had no hot pictures on her phone, she didn't even know how to pose for pictures. Lisa had taught her a few styles but she didn't learn them well. She took more selfies, not a single hot picture was on her phone. "I was just bluffing, I don't have them."

"Then, I will check out the pictures of those girls on Instagram. I think they have more sexy pictures." A sly smile played on his lips.

"Darian! You won't do that!" She yelled, her voice sterner than he had ever heard.

He chuckled, "I won't do that. You are sexier and I want you, only you." He pulled her closer, kissing her cheeks to calm her. "You succeeded in distracting me." He stroked her hair, inhaling the scent of her shampoo.

She was slowly becoming his addiction, and for some reason, he wanted to be addicted to her.

"You weren't looking at me, I was worried." She said in a faint tone.

"I had my eyes on you the whole time I was working. I just had to finish up a few things. I have sorted it all out and we can spend time together."

They were still seated on the floor, he was gradually getting habituated to the crazy things she did, and he found himself doing more things with her.

He never understood the concept of togetherness until he met Lena. He yearned more and more for her as each day passed by. She did too, she wanted him as much as he wanted her.

"Can you see the star from here?" Her eyes were fixated on the moonlight that penetrated the window. She pointed to the bright star that stood close to the moon, "this, the brightest one of them all. Can you see it from here?"

"Yes, it's beautiful just like you." He said.

Lena lifted her head from his arms and turned back to look at him. "I wanted to say that that's what you represent in my life, Darian." She bowed her head. "We are not perfect, Darian. We were not even supposed to meet, but here we are, married."

His eyes glinted with affection as he stared at Lena.

"I love that you are my wife," he said.

Darian wrapped his arms around her, guiding her preciously like she was an egg.

"I was so scared when I got married to you. I hated you so much, I hated that you're bossy and I hated that you brought in a woman on our wedding night." She grimaced. "That woman, who was she?" That was the perfect moment for her to ask.

"Tessy, she’s a part of the Dawson family. I hired her to get you clothes and put on that show. I wanted to make you miserable." He chuckled, "I have been a terrible person, right?" He combed her hair with his fingers. "I wanted to hurt you, I wanted you to hate me. I thought you'd dislike me after that night, but you didn't and no matter how much I push you away, you never leave, Lena. I don't deserve you." He sighed.

"I was relieved when I got to know nothing happened between you and her." She smiled. "The plan was to detest you when I married you. You were too much for me to handle. There were days I cried myself to sleep, there were days I wanted nothing but to hit you hard and tell you how cruel you are."

"So, why?" He turned her around. "Why did you keep going? Why didn't you stop caring about me when all I did was hurt you?"

"I was hopeful, I knew we could work out if we wanted to. And I am glad we are here, Darian." She smiled heartily as she looked deeply into his eyes.

"You will never have a reason to cry because of me anymore. I will do my best to always put a smile on your face, Lena. I will make up for all the times I wasn't good to you, I will make you happy." He promised her, taking her hands in his, he kissed her fingers.

"Then we can be stronger together if you want us to work."

"That's what we will do. We will take things slow and get stronger together." He claimed her lips to seal his promise with a kiss. "You mean so much to me, Lena."

"Darian, the sky out there represents me and the star is you." She whispered into his ears as they kissed each other. "The brightest star in my sky is you, Darian. I would be lost without your light in my life, I will hold onto you until whenever you want me to, I won't let go of your hands unless you let go of mine." They stopped kissing and gazed into each other's eyes.

He looked down at her hands, intertwining their fingers, he whispered. "I won't let go too, I will hold onto you, Lena."

This time she stretched her neck to meet his lips, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.

They didn't stop gazing into each other's eyes as their lips moved in sync with each other. Lena felt a pulse in her heart, she was with the man she cared most about in the world, the man she was ready to give everything for, the only man she wanted to be with. His touch made her heart skip a beat, she had never felt this way towards a man; her feelings were strong and deep.

She didn't care what the future held but she was determined to spend this present with him. She was ready to be by his side, to be a shoulder he could always lean on. He'd been wounded and betrayed many times and she just wanted him to heal with her.

He let go of her lips and smiled. "Let's go to sleep, the tiles are too cold."

She nodded her head.

Darian got up, extending a hand to her and heaving her up. She took her side of the bed while he walked over to his.

They laid down on the bed together, she rested her head on his chest and they said no words as they glanced at the ceiling.

They had so much to say to each other, but in times like this, the heart was the one that did the communication. She turned to face him, he cupped her face with his hands and kissed her cheeks.

"Sleep well," Lena muttered in a sleepy voice.

Darian didn't respond to her, he was not ready to sleep yet.

All he had in mind to do was to stay awake and watch over her as she slept in his arms.
