Wedded To The Ruthless Mafia Boss

50. YOu Will Be The Death of me

50. YOu Will Be The Death of me

Darian whacked the dashboard angrily. It felt like Jay was moving extremely slow tonight, his pace used to be faster than this.

"Go on faster, Jay. Get down the car, I will drive!" He yelled at him, almost taking the steering wheel from him.

"No, I can't let you drive in this state. We will die if I leave the wheel to you. You are not in the right state of mind." Jay increased the acceleration of the car to a higher one, the car jumped through the highway, not stopping at any traffic sign; that was what Darian wanted.

"Fuck!" He flailed the dashboard again. "Fuck! I shouldn't have left her, I should have stayed with her." Her number was now switched off and Harrison and Dickson weren't picking up their calls. Darian called the numbers of all the bodyguards at home, but none of them picked up. Pain surged through his insides, he was scared something had happened to Lena. Her voice wasn't bright the way it used to be and now he couldn't get through to her. "Go faster, Jay!"

"This is the highest I can go, the vehicle is barely moving, it's jumping," Jay grumbled.

"I don't care, I have to see my wife, I want to see my wife." He felt a heaviness throbbing in his chest, he rubbed it down and shook his head off; he didn't want to imagine something had happened to Lena.

No, he didn't want to think about it. She would hide in that secret room, he thought to himself. But what if they had gotten to her before she could find her way? He growled, hitting the dashboard again, almost injuring his fist this time.

"We are home," Jay announced, his heart beating slowly. "You can't go in if there is an incursion, we have to strategize." He halted Darian.

Darian nodded his head. He got out of the vehicle, gripping his pistol with his hand. He signaled to Jay to get down. The environment was unusually quiet, he pressed his ear to the gate to check if he would hear strange footsteps, but there were none.

"What if they are inside?" He whispered to Jay who was loading his gun with bullets. "I can't hear a sound here."

"We have to be careful, I will go in first," Jay said, taking a step forward. He opened the gate and surprisingly, he found all the bodyguards roaming the compound with their guns in their hands.

His jaw dropped, he wondered what was going on, and he motioned to Darian to come inside.

They walked towards the main building together, the bodyguards bowed their heads when they noticed Darian's presence.

"Where are they?" Darian yelled, "did you capture them?" He asked.

They all turned to stare at one another, confusion evident in their gazes, they looked back at Darian, and almost in unison, they asked him. "Who?"

Darian lowered his pistol, "The scoundrels who attacked my wife. Where are they?" He rubbed his temples, he was going crazy already.

He didn't want to believe Lena just played a fast one on him. They almost lost their lives on the road home.

"Nothing happened in the house, sir," Dickson responded.

"And, why didn't you pick up your phone?" Darian yelled, "and you all! What the heck happened to your phones? Where is my wife?"

They smiled and one of them stepped forward, he was as hefty as the other men. He slipped his gun back into the shoulder holster that was slung across his shoulder and stared at Darian. "Ma'am Lena took our phones from us." He said.

"She took your phones?" Jay scoffed, it was a prank on them.

Darian's eyes moved round, there were about ten bodyguards in the house. How did she do that?

"Why did she do that?" He was impatient now, anger spurting through him, but relief washed through him that there was no attack in the house.

"She said it was your order, she told us to submit our phones, that there was an inspection she had to do with them." the bodyguard answered Darian.

Jay shook his head, amused. He knew his boss's wife was crazy and she just showed it to them all.

"Where is Tina?" Jay asked them.

"She left,"

Lena didn't notice Darian was among the men as she stepped out. She clutched a bag in her hand and yelled.

"Harrison, come take your phones, I found you guys clean." She batted her eyelashes when she saw Darian and Jay. "Oh fuck!" She dropped the bag on the pavement and sprinted into the house.

"You had better stop right there!" Darian shouted, running after her.

Harrison went to get the bag.

Jay burst into a fit of laughter. He wondered how Lena could be so relaxed after what she just made them go through. They took their phones, it was just as they gave them to her. She didn't check a thing.

"What's going on?" Dickson asked Jay.

"Oh, nothing. It's fine." Jay smiled, walking down to his quarters of the mansion.

Lena hurriedly clambered the stairs, she got inside the room and shut the door, clasping the latch with the keys before Darian could get closer.

"Lena!" He yelled, banging on the door. "Open the damn door!"

"No, I won't. You are mad at me, I don't want to see that face." She whined.

"Why did you lie?" He asked, almost smiling. He should be angry, not smiling. But somehow he was pleased. He had never cared about any human the way he cared about Lena. "Just open up to me, I need to check if you are truly fine."

"Don't worry about me, I am fine." She groaned.

"You are fine? You called me that you were about to die!" He banged the door. "I will break down this door if you don't open it this minute. Do not try my patience, Lena."

"Darian, you have to promise that you won't stare at me with those ferocious eyes if I open up the door to you." She said.

Darian fumbled his hand in his pocket, hoping to find the keys he kept in there before. Luckily, he got a hold of the keys. He grinned, "Lena, open up," he called her again.

"Darian, I can't. I feel so bad about what I have done. I even lied to the bodyguards that you asked me to take their phones away from them. I am a terrible person." He felt her presence at the door, she was contemplating, but she withdrew again.

He inserted the keys into the latch and the door creaked open, he stepped in. Lena ran around, looking for the perfect place to hide.

"I didn't mean to lie to you, I was mad at you. I was…" She stopped and blinked her eyes.

"Why?" He threw his hands backward and walked closer to where she was standing in the center of the room, unmoving. He got to her and looked into her eyes, she didn't seem like one who was in pain. "I was busy but left what I was doing to come here. I was going crazy," he gripped her hand and pulled her into a tight embrace, stroking her hair, he kissed her forehead and let go. "What happened?" He led her to the bedside, they crouched side by side and Lena turned away from him.

"I was mad at you and decided to prank you." She said in a low voice, avoiding his gaze.

"Why were you mad?" He asked.

"We went on a date together and you just dropped me home, you didn't even wait to do what couples do after a romantic date. I was mad, I had to prank you to get you home. I am sorry, Darian. I didn't know you were in the middle of something important." She finally held his gaze.

"What do couples do after a romantic date?" He arched his brows, a sly smile playing on his lips.

"Darian," she called shyly. "Aren't you mad at me?" She was surprised to see the smile on his face.

"I am mad, but it feels so good to know that you are fine. I was worried to death." He shut his eyes, rubbing his temples in worry. He took her hands in his and stroked her fingers. "Don't ever do that. Don’t, I was scared for real. I have never been this scared all my life." He kissed her cheeks. "But it's a relief to see that you are fine, safe and I can hold you again."

"Darian, I am sorry I lied, I was…" He stopped her mid-sentence.

"I am calm now, okay? But you have to apologize to the bodyguards for taking their phones, and to Jay, that guy almost lost his life today. He drove here at full speed." Darian giggled. "Oh Lena, you will be the death of me." He stroked her hair.

"I won't, I promise that I won't." She hugged him so tight that she could inhale his cologne. "I was bored, so bored and I needed you to spend some time with me."

"You are my priority, Lena. You should just call me over, don't play pranks anymore. Do you promise?" He let go of her and pointed his pinky finger at her.

"I don't make promises, but I have to promise you," she linked her finger with his and giggled like a child. "I promise, Darian." She felt so alive having Darian beside her, he was all she needed. He was like her air, and she was certain she wouldn't survive without him. "I am sorry for getting you mad," she repeated.

"It's okay," Darian patted her back.

They remained in each other's arms, relishing the tenderness in every moment that passed.
