Wedded To The Ruthless Mafia Boss

Pulling The Trigger is my Hobby

Pulling The Trigger is my Hobby

"Good morning, my friend." Lena greeted when she sighted Darian walking into the kitchen. He walked over to snatch a cup from the rack, turned some water, and swallowed alongside the pills in his palm. "You should respond to greetings from a friend, don't you know that?"

"I don't," Darian retorted.

Tina smiled and left the kitchen. She knew better than to interrupt their time together.

"Now you know, when a friend greets you, you are meant to respond to their greetings." She said, putting the chicken wings into a bowl. "Don't worry, go back to the dining room, I will serve your food soon." She backed him, mixing the stew she was making.

"Can I have coffee this morning? I am working from home today." He informed her.

"Why? Is there a problem at the office?" She asked.

"No, Lena. There is something I have to attend to at the family house. One of the men gave a vague confession. Gaius wants me to come over to handle him myself."

Lena sighed, she stopped counting the chicken and looked up at him. "Why can't he do that? He's the godfather after all. Why must they involve you in everything that they do?" She rolled her eyes, obviously not pleased with what he just told her.

"Have you forgotten my position in the family?" He quirked his eyebrows, surprised she would even say something like that. "I have the most authority and nothing can be done without my permission, my friend." He emphasized.

Lena smiled, they were truly becoming friends.

Darian never talked to her about his plans, he just left the house and came back. He only let her know if there was an emergency case. She was happy with the progress they were making in their so-called friendship.

"That's true. So, Darian. Your friend wants to know why you take those pills every morning, would you like to share? Friends keep each other's secrets, you know?"

"To relieve pains and that's all." He responded hurriedly, "Why aren't you preparing for work today? You have to go regularly to work, I don't want those women gossiping about us. They might think you are taking your work for granted because you are the boss's wife."

"Don't worry too much about that, I told someone to stand in for me today. And besides, they can say whatever they want, I don't care, I do my job diligently even though I don't like it." Lena said. Darian said nothing, his eyes boring into hers. She shrugged her shoulders and continued. "As the boss, I think there are some rules that need to be rewritten by you. I have discussed this with some women at the casino and half of them are interested in other things. They have careers and ambitions they want to pursue but they can't do that because they are married to a man from the Dawson family."

"The rules have been laid down years ago. Years before we were born." Darian managed to say.

"Yes, by the ones who were the Lords then, you can always change the rules. You know, I honestly think this is unfair to the women because the men can do whatever they want to do, they have the freedom to do whatever they want to do, but the women can not do the same. That's so bad. I am sure the Lord who made the rule was a possessive one who just wanted his women to submit to his every will." Lena rolled her eyes.

"It's always been like that, family rules cannot be changed."

"I don't believe that though. If someone can write the rules then someone can also change them." She protested, not prepared to agree easily to him.

"Can we stop talking about the family rules?" He leaned on the counter with the glass clamped between his fingers. "You don't have a choice but to do what the rules say." He said in a final tone.

"Whatever," she scoffed at him. "Do you still want the coffee?" She asked.

He nodded his head in affirmation. She turned away from him to prepare the beverage, when she was done, she served him and they left the kitchen together.

They got to the dining room, and she set the table, but neither of them ate. She was waiting for him to finish up with the coffee before serving his food, while she wasn't hungry that morning.

"Darian," she called him in a serious tone, his eyebrows creased in her direction and she asked. "What's your favorite thing to do?"

He gently placed the teacup on the glass dining table and smiled, "Pulling the trigger and killing people are my favorite things to do."

"What?" Lena shifted uncomfortably in her chair. "You don't mean it. How can killing people be your hobby?" She queried.

"But it is. The bad ones though." He added.

"Darian, how many people have you killed with your hands?" Her heart raced as she stared at him.

He didn't look cruel to her, he didn't look like one who would kill someone without a reason. His countenance was too calm to think he had ever killed people.

"I have so many enemies that would not hesitate to kill me if they have the chance, but I am always smart enough to act fast. Lena, being in a Mafia is dangerous, dirty and everything evil. But I don't kill people without a good reason and trust me when I say that I have never killed an innocent person." He finished the coffee and smiled at her. He could read the fears that thrashed her eyes as she stared at him. He didn't like that she would have a bad impression of him. He folded his arms on the dining table and sighed. "I said it before, I don't kill innocent people."

"Yeah," she shook her shoulders.

"What about you?" He asked.

"Me? I have never killed anyone and I will never do that. How will you even ask me such a question?" She frowned, clenching her fists into a circle.

"I was asking what your hobbies are, Lena. Not how many people you have killed." He explained better to her.

She scratched her head, looking stupid. "Er, I didn't know that was what you were talking about. I like to teach, and educate people about different things and that's why the women at the casino like me very much. I teach most of them a lot of things." She said proudly.

Darian nodded his head, he didn't doubt that. He knew Lena was smart, one of the things about her that piqued his interest.

"How's your dad? Do you check on him regularly?" He asked.

She smiled again, she loved this new side of Darian that cared about the people around him, talked more, and revealed things about him.

She smiled, she should have talked to him about being friends all these days, but she was glad she did. He wasn't as cold as she had pictured him to be and she hoped that he would continue to be this way and even get better with time.

"Fine, I visited him days ago." She answered him. A question about his parents struck her mind, but she shook it off.

She knew that his father was late, she had heard women and men at the casino gossip about him. But she had never heard anything about his mother, never for once and he didn't mention her too.

She opened her mouth to ask about his mother but the words didn't drop. They felt too heavy. She immediately concealed her nervousness with a smile.

“You know Amy doesn't take easy things with me, I think she has a crush on you or something."

Darian flickered his eyes and nodded his head. "We used to be together, but not anymore."

"I know," Lena smiled.

"How?"

"I know, I judged from how she behaves around you and me. And I concluded that it can only mean two things." She jerked her fingers at him and supported them with her other hand. "She's either crushing on you or she's been with you before."

"Oh," Darian bobbed his head.

"Amy said some things that I have been pondering on." Darian quirked his brows questionably, and Lena smiled. "She said I am not fit to be called your wife because I don't know anything about you. I don't know how she got to know that I know nothing about you, but I was pained, truly hurt."

Darian didn't say a word, he just listened to her with utmost attention.

"Now that we are friends, we can start by getting to know more about each other." They exchanged a meaningful glance and she heaved a tired sigh. "Darian, if you are willing to let me, I would like to know you more." She dropped, her heart beating erratically.

She didn't want him to say no to her, she wanted him to let her in, completely into his world.

"My world isn't where you would love to be, Lena." His voice was so soft it soothed her soul. His eyes scrutinized her. He slowly looked away from her, her gaze was too innocent for him to behold.

"I am married to you and that makes me a part of your world. A part, I need you to bring me out of the abyss, take me out of the darkness, and shed more light for me to walk freely into your world. I want to know all about you, my husband."

Her words melted his heart softly, her eyes staring beautifully at him like he was without flaws. He saw her sincerity, she wanted to be a part of his world, but it was hard. He was a man who was with flaws, he didn't deserve her.

When Darian said nothing, she smiled.

"We are progressing, we will eventually get there someday if you don't hold back."

Darian shrugged with a bored expression. "Gaius just called," he looked down at his phone. "I have to go now."

"Wait, won't you eat? I stayed back at home to cook for you." She yelled as he walked into the hallway that led to the room.

He waved his hand at her and she smiled.

She loved this new side of Darian so much, but something scared her.

There was an inner voice whispering to her not to dwell too much on the change, that Darian was a tough man and she needed more than being his friend to melt his icy heart.
