Baby Boss
Baby Boss
The last sentence Darian uttered caused all eyes present in the room to gaze at his side on the high chair he sat on.
"I strongly object to this," Judson shifted in his chair. "You can't just ask that we put activities in the casino on hold till after the family party." He said, his eyes bloodshot with anger. "You may be the boss but sometimes you don't act like it." He glared at Darian hoping that his words hurt him.
"Watch your mouth, Judson. I have the right to punish you if you disrespect me again." Darian snarled in his chair, clenching his jaw as his fist rolled into a ball.
"You two should stop this!" Gaius slammed the table in annoyance, the glasses rambled and some fell on the marbled floor, crashing into pieces. He turned to Darian, a finger jerked pointedly at him. "You are the Don but that doesn't stop you from respecting your elders." He muttered and veering to Judson, he frowned and yelled. "He's the Don and he has the right to make decisions. You should respect him and watch the words you spew at him."
Judson bent his head and looked away, Darian clasped his hands together, fuming with fury.
"Why do you want us to halt the activities of the casino?" Gaius asked Darian.
"There is a case of missing funds. More money has been taken away from the family's account over the months and we don't know the people behind it. Talia got to know about this last week and I feel we should stop all activities to properly investigate this case of theft." Darian explained, making hand gestures. "We can still make use of the casino for our nightly games but that will be within members of the family only."
"We have a finance manager at the casino, she should look into this case and save us the stress." Andrew blurted out, not too impressed with Darian's decision of stopping activities at the casino.
"Yes, yes, yes." Noise erupted among the members at the table.
"I do know that but I choose to look into this myself. Is there a problem with that?" Darian questioned, studying their faces as they muttered inaudible words among themselves. It was obvious it would take a while to convince these people. He cleared his throat and clapped his hands for their attention. "Trust me on this. The manager's signature was forged for false transactions. She's been working with us for a long time now and she can't possibly betray us. That's why we have to stop all activities to know the people behind this heinous act. And mind you, they are members of the Dawson family. But I am glad to let you know that I won't forgive anyone who is behind this. I will make sure that the culprit is dealt with according to the family laws."
Judson shot Darian a deathly glare. He shook his head and looked away from him.
"The family anniversary is next week. How many families are we inviting for the party?" Darian asked Adam, the secretary.
"About seven families, and all members of the Dallas mafia are coming over too. We are making reservations for about a hundred or more people." Adam answered sharply.
"Good," Darian smiled satisfactorily. "Caleb, you and the other soldiers should be on alert. Train your men, you do know well that we can't trust anyone. Especially these families we are inviting over. We've won several biddings over them and they are not cool with that. They might choose to honour the invitation because we asked them to but we don't know what they have going on in their minds." They all nodded their heads in the understanding of Darian's words.
Gaius smiled, he hadn't had a reason to doubt Darian's prowess. He had been good and excellent over the months.
"What other pending issues do we have left?" Darian spotted the smile on Gaius' face.
"What should the women at the casino do for that week?" Judson slurred. "You do know that they don't have other jobs but this."
"They will stay around, and go to work but will not do anything. I need to get things figured out." Darwin responded to him.
"Indeed," Judson let out a slight chuckle. "I hope you get things figured—out." he drawled.
Darian shook his head. He knew well that he would never get along with Judson, not in this world.
Other pending issues were discussed, conclusions were reached and the meeting finally ended.

Darian was heading to the car with Jay when he heard his name and he knew the voice well. He halted his steps and turned to face Judson who had two bulky bodyguards by his side. He let out a crooked smile as he edged towards Darian.
"Is there a problem?" Darian asked, motioning to Jay to step aside.
"There is," Judson made a signal to his bodyguards to move away as well. "You do think that I am behind the missing money, don't you?" He lit his tobacco and took a large drag, sending thick white smoke into the air.
Darian chuckled, unaffected by the smell of the tobacco. "Maybe the culprit wants to confess before I step in. I didn't lay an accusation on anyone but if you're confessing to your crimes, I might spare you."
"You know when a kid ascends the throne as the Don? They tend to misbehave, but we elders just sit back and watch them. Watch as they tread on that dangerous maze that will eventually lead to their destruction." Judson took another drag and sent the puff into Darian's face.
"Your threats hold no water, you know? You can't bring me down the way you brought my father down!" Darian pointed his fingers at him.
"Good, but I want you to know something. I am not a thief, I hope you find that out when you are done with your stupid investigations." He placed the roll of tobacco in between his fingers, glared at Darian, and walked out on him.
"He's a whole lot to deal with." Jay frowned as he opened the door for his boss.
"Yeah, but he's still family." Darian sat in.
"Where to?" Jay asked him. "Office, right? I think there is something you need to attend to…"
"You are not my secretary, Jay. Drive me home, I need to see Lena, there is something I want to discuss with her." He ordered, resting his back on the seat.
The truth was, there was no nothing he wanted to discuss with Lena. He was just longing to see her face. He felt he needed to see her before he suffocated.
