chapter 17

POV Kiara

The kiss explodes between us like lightning striking the forest floor. Every emotion I've buried for years crashes together at once in the space between our lips.

Anger and joy collide with devastating force. Pain and pleasure merge until I can't tell them apart. Love and betrayal twist together like rope, binding and choking me simultaneously.

"I've waited so long for this," Aleron murmured against my mouth, his voice rough with suppressed need.

What starts as something soft and tentative becomes desperate passion the moment I respond to his touch. My vampire nature recognizes its soulmate with overwhelming intensity that makes my head spin and my heart race.

"You're mine," I whispered, surprising myself with the possessive hunger in my voice. "You've always been mine, haven't you?"

"Always," he breathed, his hands framing my face like I was something precious. "From the moment I first saw you, love. Before I understood what that meant."

The recognition goes deeper than thought, deeper than choice. It comes from a place inside me I didn't know existed until this moment.

We kiss like we're fighting for the right to prove our feelings are real. Each touch feels like both a claim and a surrender. I don't know if I'm trying to hurt him or heal something broken between us.

Maybe both. Maybe neither matters anymore.

"Tell me you want this," Aleron said, pulling back just enough to meet my eyes. "Tell me you want me, not just the bond."

The conflict inside my chest tears at me even as excitement and passion consume me completely. This is wrong. This is the man who betrayed my father, who destroyed my family.

But it's also the boy I loved before I understood what love meant. The boy who taught me to track rabbits and steal cookies from the kitchen.

"I hate that I want you," I admitted, my voice breaking. "I hate that even after everything you've done, I still—"

"Still what?" His pale eyes held mine with hypnotic intensity.

"Still love you," I whispered, the confession tearing from my throat like a physical wound.

Without thinking, without choosing, I leap into Aleron's arms. My legs wrap around his waist as he catches me easily with his strength. His hands grip me like I might disappear if he lets go.

Like he's been waiting eternity for this exact moment.

"Fuck, Kiara," he groaned, his voice strained with need. "You have no idea what you do to me."

A second later I'm pressed against the massive trunk of an oak tree. Aleron's body cages me in, his pale skin glowing in the moonlight filtering through the canopy above us. Both of us are breathing hard, our chests rising and falling in unison.

"I can feel your pulse," I said, tracing the line of his throat with trembling fingers. "It's racing."

"For you," he said simply. "Only ever for you."

His eyes are dark with emotions I recognize because they match what's burning inside me. Moving on instinct, I place soft kisses along his throat, following the path of his jugular with my lips.

The same hunger I feel with Thomen drives me now, but this is different.

This feeds a part of me I didn't know existed until recently. This satisfies cravings that go deeper than food, deeper than physical need. The taste of his skin carries hints of power and something I can't name but desperately crave.

"Take what you need," Aleron said, tilting his head to give me better access. "Take everything."

My touches deepen into gentle bites that make Aleron groan with pleasure. His hands tighten on me as he surrenders control completely. I can feel him giving himself over to whatever this is between us.

"You're so responsive," I whispered, fascinated by the way his body reacted to my touch. "So different from—"

"Don't think about him right now," Aleron interrupted, his voice carrying a hint of possessive edge. "Right now, there's only us."

When my fangs finally pierce the pale column of his throat, my vampire half takes complete control for the first time in my life. His blood flows across my tongue with incredible satisfaction that goes beyond anything I've ever experienced.

It's nothing like the metallic taste of regular blood from hunting or injuries. This tastes like completion, like finding a missing piece of myself I didn't know was gone.

"God, yes," Aleron breathed, his voice rough with pleasure. "You feel so good, love. So perfect."

The liquid carries more than nourishment. Through the blood bond between us, I can feel his desperate need for connection with someone who understands what it means to be caught between worlds.

And underneath all of that, buried but not destroyed, his love for me.

Real love that survived betrayal and war and years of separation. Love that's been waiting patiently for the chance to surface again.

I drink deeply, completely lost in the sensation of feeding from my vampire soulmate. The connection pulses between us with each swallow, growing stronger and more permanent.

"More," I demanded against his throat, drunk on the sensation of feeding from my vampire soulmate. "I need more."

"Take it all," he said, his hands roaming my body with reverent touches. "I'm yours, Kiara. I've always been yours."

The bond between us strengthens with each drop of his blood that passes my lips. I can feel it weaving itself into my very essence, changing me on a fundamental level.

This isn't just feeding. This is transformation.

Every nerve in my body lights up at once from the permanent connection between us. The sensation is beyond physical, beyond emotional.

It's spiritual and eternal.

I arch against him as waves of complete fulfillment wash over me in cresting tides. My vampire nature finally feels fully connected to its other half, completely and utterly satisfied for the first time since it awakened.

"I can feel you inside my soul," I whispered, overwhelmed by the magnitude of what was happening.

"And I can feel you in mine," he replied, his forehead resting against mine. "We're bound now, love. Nothing can break this."

We collapse together onto the forest floor among broken branches and scattered leaves. Both of us breathe heavily in the aftermath of something that changed us both forever.

"This is going to destroy everything," I said, reality crashing back as the intensity began to ebb.

"Maybe," Aleron agreed, his arms tightening around me. "But some things are worth destroying for."

My mind reels from the intensity of what just happened, struggling to process the magnitude of our connection.

That's when Thomen's voice explodes through our werewolf mate bond, his confusion and shock hitting me like a physical blow across the face.

"What the hell was that?" his mental voice demands, filled with bewilderment and growing rage.
