Chapter 16
Chapter 16
"What about me, my darling wife?" Jackson said in a dejected tone.
Steffanie rolled her eyes and spoke. "Honey don't tell me you are jealous of Hudson and Liam?" And she poked her tongue out, which made everyone laugh.
But only Hudson's expression remains unchanged. He was looking at Jackson very carefully, as he came towards him.
"Hudson, I am glad you could make it, your aunt had been busy for the whole month and we hardly get to see you these days. And congratulations on the big win. I am glad you got the Clarke project. Emily was my colleague and best friend and I am so glad that her dream project is starting again and that your company is dealing with it. May her soul rest in peace."
"How well do you know her Uncle Jackson?" Hudson asked curiously.
Jackson looked at Hudson closely and asked. "Why the sudden interest in her Hudson?"
"Somebody tried to run the crusher over Callie, her daughter, deliberately today at the project site and it was the opening day of the project. By the looks of it, it's clear that somebody was trying to kill her or warn her about something." Hudson said calmly.
"What? Callie's daughter is here?" Jackson exclaimed.
"Yes she is the head of the project design but she cannot speak since she was born, so I was wondering whether Callie's parents had any enemies," Hudson said.
"Are you talking about Emily Clarke 's daughter, Callie Clarke, Hudson?" Steffanie entered the living room with a tray filled with tea and biscuits.
Hudson looked at his aunt with surprise.
Steffanie walked in handed over the tea to all of them and sat down beside Hudson.
"Aunt Steff, do you know Callie? Hudson asked curiously.
Steffanie shook her head and said. "No, I just remembered her name as you mentioned Emily's name. She was a very hard-working woman both her husband and she was very dedicated to their profession. They had even left their children in Budapest, as they feared for their safety. Although Emily was very wealthy and I had met her at the court many times for different hearings, I never could understand why she ever chose to become a CIA agent, when she was the only daughter of James Morgan." And started shaking her head, remembering some fond memories with Emily and continued.
"I had met Callie once when she was two years old and found her to be cute. I had picked her up and cuddled her once when Emily had invited us for dinner at her place. She and Jackson were colleagues as well as college friends, so naturally, we met quite often."
"I had then realized that Callie couldn't speak, by the time a child reaches that age they usually start taking but she was exceptional. Emily told me that the doctor had told her that sometimes a child takes time to open up, so they should wait patiently and not pressurize her."
"So, why were you guys discussing her? Have you met her Hudson?"
Hudson wanted his aunt to continue but had to answer his question, so he said calmly. " Yes, I know her as she is the head of the designing of the layout of the project that I am involved in and also it happens to be her mother's dream project."
"Oh, I see, the cursed project had started again?" Steffanie said with a displeased tone.
"Cursed! " Hudson exclaimed in disbelief after hearing his aunt. He was wondering how his aunt a famous lawyer believed in such superstition.
"That project is not good Hudson, it killed both Emily and her husband and now you are saying that someone is trying to attack her then it must have something related to the past. Steffanie said with curiosity.
"Leave the project, Hudson, I don't like the sound of it.
"Aunt Steffanie, do you believe about bad omen? It's bullshit talk. It's just a project and from what I have gathered it is a big project elite architects had their eyes on that project but because they did not get it they might be trying to scare her.
Steffanie smiled at her nephew and spoke. "Hudson, do you actually think I would believe in all those rumours, I was just telling you the facts about what had happened back then. I had tried very hard to take that case, as down the line she had become a very close friend to me but Emily's mother said she did not want to pursue it any further, as she was worried about the children and had just lost her only daughter and son-in-law and urged me to stop the investigation there and then and had left Seattle forever." She paused and then said softly.
"I would have loved to punish those culprits responsible for it but the case was closed and it was stated that they had been killed by the ruthless killer who was on the run."
Hudson looked at Steffanie with a confused expression and she explained. "Hudson the year Emily and her husband were murdered, there were many cases of homicide at a very random rate, where he raped the women ruthlessly and murdered them and threw their bodies in some remote areas and it was done by the same person in the same method. Emily was trying to track that killer but when Emily was about to reveal his identity, she had an accident due to which she was severely injured, so she decided that she would stop working for some time as their children needed them too."
"She had resigned but after two months, they were both murdered. According to the CIA, it was done by the same killer because Emily was very close to finding him."
"But did they catch the killer?" Liam asked curiously and Hudson could feel that he was angry.
"No, Liam they never found the killer, as he vanished but recently there were a few murders which were done similarly. It is said that he is back." Steffanie said softly.
"That means Callie and her brother's life will be in danger if the project continues." Jackson who was quiet for a long time chipped in.
All the three present in the room looked at him.
