Chapter 47 The Person Without Fate
Chapter 47 The Person Without Fate
Sunday, July 26, 1346
After breakfast, Altair left the Sheffield house with Vera.
We arrived in Backlund, North End, Dalton Street, Buckingham Sweets by carriage.
Once inside, I randomly found a secluded corner and began waiting for the person who would invite me.
Looking at Vera eating chocolate cake, Altair couldn't help but ask curiously, "Are you sure this is the place?"
"It's definitely here." Vera realized her words were unclear, so she put down her cake fork, swallowed the cake in her mouth, and said firmly, "Count Altair, I'm absolutely certain this is it."
After hearing Vera's words, Altair did not reply, but instead picked up a spoon and idly stirred the black tea in front of him.
The main issue is that since leaving this morning and arriving here, we've been waiting for far too long, which has made Altair a little impatient.
If it weren't for the special people who came today, I would have left long ago.
Looking at the pocket watch in his hand, he realized that the agreed time had arrived and he was about to be late.
.......
Time continued to pass, and the cup of black tea had been finished and a new pot had been poured in.
At that moment, the shop door was finally pushed open, and the distinctive sound of a bell rang out.
At this moment, Altair believed for the first time that this sound was heavenly.
Looking up, I saw a little boy with mobility issues walking towards me.
When the little boy walked up to Altair's table, he sat down directly.
Altair wasn't surprised by the person in front of him. He casually beckoned to the waiter and gestured for a dessert menu.
Altair's actions made the little boy beam with joy: "I want chocolate ice cream, strawberry cream ice cream, lemon frosting ice cream... that's all for now."
Hearing the little boy's words, Vera seemed to be inspired by something and asked the waiter for a "dessert menu," saying, "I want a rose lychee ice cream."
Looking at the two people in front of him, Altair couldn't help but complain, "Aren't you afraid of getting diarrhea from eating too much ice cream?"
The child ignored Altair's advice and said to him with a smile, "I've finally managed to get out here, so of course I want to eat my fill. Besides, it's the middle of summer, and it's so hot, so it'll be fine."
Vera nodded in agreement with those words.
An awkward atmosphere then formed at the table. The two women looked at each other, one smiling, the other silent. Vera, meanwhile, began shaking her head, as if she wanted to sleep.
After the waiter brought the ice cream, Altair, unable to bear the atmosphere any longer, poured himself another cup of tea, took a sip, and said calmly:
"You're late, Mr. Serpent of Destiny. It's been an hour and a half since the agreed time."
"If it weren't for my curiosity, we would have left by now."
Will looked troubled, but still calmly said, "This is the only way we can do it; it was already arranged."
"There was just an unexpected incident; someone I didn't want to see suddenly appeared in Backlund."
"Yes, this is somewhat related to you. I also suggest that you minimize going out and stay at home during this period."
Someone I don't want to see, related to me, that 'giant snake'?
Altair nodded and decided to accept the 'little snake's' advice to stay home less often in the near future.
But still curious, he asked, "Has that giant snake come to Backlund recently?"
Will blinked his big eyes at Altair's question and said crisply, "It seems you know a lot. You can guess my identity and his identity immediately without even thinking. That's right, he just arrived."
Altair didn't want to inquire further about the "Great Serpent," instead saying, "I thought we'd never meet. Mr. 'Serpent of Fate,' what brings you here today?"
Will said calmly, "Actually, I wasn't planning to see you. After all, the matter concerning your family was settled after that bill was sent out."
"But recently, this little girl suddenly became a 'monster,' and out of curiosity, I looked into her 'fate,' which is how I discovered you."
"You're special, oh."
Looking at Vera, who had fallen into a deep sleep beside him, Altair said directly, "Mr. 'Serpent of Fate,' what does this mean?"
Will, sitting on the sofa eating ice cream, replied with a smile: "Literally, your 'fate' is special."
"Special?" Altair asked, puzzled. "What kind of special?"
Will looked up and thought for a moment, then said with a troubled expression, "Well, how should I put it, everyone in this world, regardless of their social status, has a predetermined fate."
"But you are different. After observing you for almost half a month, I found that you don't actually have a 'fate'. It's as if you appeared out of thin air, and the world didn't make any arrangements for you."
The word "uh" left Altair speechless. Was someone who essentially had no destiny referring to himself as an outsider, a time traveler?
Seeing Altair's expression, Will chuckled twice and said, "Actually, this is a good thing. At least you don't have to worry about being controlled by others. At the same time, you can use this 'special' ability to subtly influence the fate of other people."
"I've called you here to ask if you need a 'child'."
Upon hearing this, Altair's face darkened as he asked, "What do you mean?"
"It means exactly what it says," Will said, scratching his head sheepishly.
"Although I love my current family, this body can't hold on much longer. At most, I'll need a body transplant in three years."
"If I could use your body to conceive, I think..."
Before Will could finish speaking, Altair interrupted him, saying, "I don't have the kind of thoughts you're talking about."
"Besides, my family has very strict discipline, which you would definitely find difficult to accept."
"When I was little, my father would beat me if I didn't study hard. I made up my mind then that when I had children, I would end this kind of corporal punishment."
After listening, Will asked curiously, "And now?"
Altair said with a serious expression, "Father, your punches weren't fast enough or ruthless enough back then."
Will was speechless at this, thinking, "What a flimsy excuse. Couldn't they have come up with a reasonable reason?"
Left with no other option, Will simply said, "Fine, fine, actually I didn't have much hope to begin with."
"I have no other purpose than to meet you today out of curiosity."
Altair asked curiously, "Will Ouroboros discover my special abilities?"
Will shook his head and said, "No, it was just a coincidence that I found out about you. I confirmed it through special means, a method that only I know and no one else can do."
"Actually, you don't need to worry. I'm just saying that you don't have 'fate' in essence, but on the surface, there are things 'weaving' for you."
