Chapter 2 Dual Personality
Chapter 2 Dual Personality
Mo Ran woke up the moment Harry fainted.
Unable to help the scattering tourists, Mo Ran, who had regained control of his body for the first time, almost exhausted all his strength to recall the rampaging Mo Ran back into his body.
"Oh my god! Vernon! Quick, save Dudley!"
"Ah! Mommy, Mommy, I'm going to die! Daddy! Waaah!"
"Penny! Dudley!"
……
On the night Mo Ran's soul transmigrated into Harry's body, the Voldemort soul fragment that had been residing in the boy who had miraculously survived was no longer the only guest in that body. Perhaps Lily Potter's sacrifice saved Harry's soul from perishing, or perhaps there was a mistake in the transmigration process; this Harry Potter viewer from J.K. Rowling's hometown failed to replace young Harry's consciousness and become the savior of the wizarding world.
Unable to act independently and burdened with the pain of their family's tragic deaths alongside Harry, Mo Ran faced a desperate situation for the first year after his transmigration, with no way to survive and no way to die. Then, on July 31st of the following year, Mo Ran and Harry's shared birthday, he and young Potter met in a nightmare.
Voldemort's wand, the blinding green light, the mother's screams.
Mo Ran and Harry, sitting together in the stroller, held hands and cried all night.
Looking at the body made of black mist in Harry's dream, Mo Ran, who had the privilege of watching the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie series, instantly understood his own situation.
When young wizards suffer profound psychological trauma due to magic, they instinctively suppress their magical powers in self-defense. This powerful and highly unstable dark magic has a name that closely resembles it—Obscurus. The power of the Obscurus is extremely difficult to control, and even within dark magic, it is among the most mysterious and dangerous. When an Obscurus is unleashed, they transform into an invisible wind, causing severe and irreversible destruction to their surroundings.
It wasn't Mo Ran's intention to make the Savior an Obscurial, but faced with an opportunity to become stronger, Mo Ran disguised himself as Harry's second personality, constantly instilling distorted ideas in him in his dreams—that everything was the fault of magic.
"Voldemort wanted to kill a boy born at the end of July. If I hadn't been born on July 31st, would my parents still be alive?"
"If I didn't know any magic and was just a Muggle, would my parents still be alive?"
"If I hadn't been born..."
"So Mom and Dad won't die?"
Harry couldn't understand names like Voldemort or Muggle; he couldn't even remember them after waking up. But the subconscious instilled by Mo Ran was like a seed that had taken root, making him begin to hate, even despise, unrealistic things like magic.
The pessimistic and painful emotions changed Harry's personality, while also making the Obscurus within him grow stronger and stronger.
When he was six, Harry, whose emotions and mental state had reached a breaking point, snapped one weekend when his cousin Dudley, as usual, used him as a punching bag. What knocked Dudley unconscious wasn't some invisible uppercut; it was the Obscurial, which had left Harry's body for the first time.
A destructive gust of wind grazed Dudley's chin, swept into the yard, and shredded the fence and lawn to pieces. Vernon, who attributed everything to Harry's magical talent, drew his gun on his nephew, but ultimately restrained himself.
Later, as Moran's power as an Obscurial grew, he began to be able to control himself to transform into black mist while Harry slept, flying freely near Privet Street. Moran, who had gained partial freedom, did not become complacent. Having experienced too much pain, he never forgot the setting about Obscurials and Obscurants—Obscurants rarely lived past the age of ten.
The alarm bells rang incessantly. After all, in terms of overall magical prowess alone, Harry in the original films wasn't even as good as Hermione Granger. If this new-age savior hadn't possessed Cresten Byrburne's magical talent, Mo Ran would have already perished along with his host before the owl even arrived with the message.
With these worries, and also with the guilt that tormented little Harry, Mo Ran began to use his silent power to devour insects and small animals at night. He didn't know what the effect would be, but as long as Harry didn't grow into a small person due to malnutrition, he felt that he had at least helped a little.
Four years have passed since then, and the Obscurus within Harry has grown to a terrifying size. This is thanks to his early, twisted hatred of magic, and the Obscurus's growth has been accelerated by its consumption of various animals. This is a discovery that even Newt Scamander never wrote about in his books! However, for the Obscurus, which constantly faces the danger of its impending doom, nothing is more important than Harry's survival.
He began to regret it.
Perhaps he shouldn't have destroyed a child's magical dream for the sake of power and freedom. What difference would it make if he stayed in Harry's body? It would just be watching a first-person movie.
If he could, he would still want Harry to be that optimistic, hopeful little boy who chooses to remain positive even in difficult circumstances.
And so, Mo Ran began to teach Harry in his dreams.
“My aunt and uncle weren’t very good to me, but they did give me a place to live; I don’t want to call that storage room home, but I was still luckier than other orphans because I had food to eat and school to attend.”
"Dali is hateful, but he doesn't dare hit me anymore. There's no need to use the most vicious curse on a child about my age... However, he is indeed too fat. Saying he looks like a pig isn't really a curse."
With July 31, 1991, drawing ever closer, Mo Ran thought that as long as Hagrid appeared on Harry's 11th birthday and made contact with Hogwarts, even if Dumbledore was senile, he would never allow the savior to die young.
As long as things are peaceful and stable...
……
“Child, look at this finger of mine, follow it with your eyes.”
The medical staff who arrived at the scene raised an index finger and shook it from side to side. Although Harry (Mo Ran) was a little impatient, he did as they said.
The zookeeper and firefighters were in a flurry of activity, amidst a chaotic mix of complaints, screams, and apologies. Harry (Mo Ran) had no idea when the medical staff left him; his mind was preoccupied with life-or-death matters concerning Hogwarts, Dumbledore, the Ministry of Magic, and the Obscurial.
When Harry and the Dursleys received their compensation from the zoo and headed home, an elderly man with silver hair and a silver beard had been waiting for a long time at the door of No. 4 Privet Street with an ice pop in his hand.
"Oh, damn it! The Dursleys have had enough of this weird stuff and weird people today. Whoever you are, get out of here right now, or I'm calling the police!"
Vernon shouted loudly, no longer caring whether it was appropriate to swear in front of Dudley.
"Vernon..."
"Let's go inside and talk."
Aunt Penny tugged at her husband's sleeve, her voice trembling. Her eyes were wide, and her expression was incredibly complicated. Vernon swore his wife hadn't even made such an exaggerated expression, not even at the zoo.
"Oh, thank you, Penny. I thought you weren't going to invite me in."
"By the way, could you please make me a cup of tea? I'd like to speak with Mr. Potter alone."
The tall, thin old man's words seemed to have a magical power. Uncle Vernon, who was about to explode, was breathing heavily one second, but the next second, he immediately became more docile than a chipmunk.
……
In the living room, Dumbledore's long, slender fingers gently stroked a teacup, his deep blue eyes watching Harry (Mo Ran) with a tender expression.
Harry (Mo Ran) dared not speak rashly. He was unsure whether Dumbledore's Legilimency would work on him, so he could only wait for the other party to say something first before responding in kind.
“Harry”.
Dumbledore spoke, and Mo Ran felt slightly relieved not to hear the words "Mr. Potter".
"I'm sorry that our first meeting is going to be conducted in this way."
Harry (Mo Ran) looked somewhat surprised. He stared at Dumbledore's calm face, then slowly said:
“But sir, I think this is not our first meeting.”
Dumbledore said "Oh?" but he didn't seem surprised at all.
Harry (Mo Ran) continued:
"In my dream, I remember there was a flying motorcycle, a flying fireball, a lady who could turn into a cat, and you."
“A very interesting dream, Harry. Have you ever had similar dreams? I mean, unusual dreams like this one.”
"Hmm, but I don't really like other kinds of dreams. Sometimes I dream of green light, and a woman's sharp points..."
Dumbledore raised a hand, interrupting Harry:
"Oh my child, I'm sorry to remind you of these things; let's not dwell on those painful dreams."
His voice was gentle and kind, giving people a feeling of being bathed in a spring breeze, but unexpectedly, Harry (Mo Ran) rejected this kindness.
"Sir, what I mean is..."
"Although such an idea may seem absurd, sometimes I feel that the scenes that appear in dreams actually come from other people's memories."
Dumbledore's expression finally changed, and seeing his increasingly serious look, Harry's (Mo Ran's) heart pounded. He knew, of course, that he had just made a desperate decision. But thinking about it carefully, time travel was something that had never happened even in the magical world of Harry Potter. Perhaps the thoughts of a time traveler would be protected by some mysterious force here.
"Hmm...or perhaps they were just some strange dreams, Harry."
Dumbledore took a sip of tea, his wrinkles smoothing out like an ironed shirt, and explained, in what he thought was a very humorous way:
“Children often have strange dreams. In fact, a few days ago I dreamed that my wool socks grew hands and feet and escaped through the window.”
The stubborn old man's attitude was just like in the original book. He clearly raised Harry as a savior, but he didn't want him to be tainted by the dark side of the wizarding world too early. Did he think that playing Quidditch would make Harry mistake Voldemort for the Golden Snitch and arrest him?
Harry (Mo Ran) gave up on the idea of continuing to test Dumbledore, thinking: It seems that some things can only be dealt with slowly.
"Perhaps you are right, sir, but there is something I still hope you can answer for me... Have you ever heard of multiple personality disorder?"
……
Mo Ran wasn't sure when Harry's consciousness would awaken, and he hadn't even managed to get a single word out of Dumbledore. But to ensure his own safety and pave the way for the future, he used the concept of dissociative identity disorder from abnormal psychology to create a layer of armor. This way, even if Dumbledore extracted two different memories from Harry's brain, Mo Ran would at least have a plausible explanation.
Dumbledore listened quietly as Harry (Mo Ran) recounted the information he had found online. Compared to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and the example of William Milligan, a person with multiple personality disorder who had 24 different personalities, he focused more on young Harry's logical thinking and language skills.
“I don’t think I will become a criminal, but living at my aunt’s house is really too oppressive. If possible, sir, I mean if, I would like to move to a different place, even an orphanage. I can find a way to support myself.”
