Chapter 14: Riot
Chapter 14: Riot
Influenced by the discussions among his classmates, Spider-Man's web-swinging speed increased significantly.
His nimble figure, like a swallow in flight, darted between the city's skyscrapers.
It didn't take him long to arrive at the Osborne Building.
Using the momentum of his webs, Spider-Man pierced into the honeycomb-shaped structure on the surface of the Osborne Tower like a bullet.
He pressed his five fingers against the glass floor and quickly climbed upwards.
"By the way, why don't you stay here and observe the doctor?" Spider-Man turned his head and glanced at the crow on his shoulder.
"Whose work are you doing or mine? This is your episode, not mine," Oz replied.
"here we go again."
Spider-Man tilted his head back helplessly and quickly arrived at the glass wall outside Dr. Connors' laboratory building.
"Human experimentation must be done step by step, why can't they understand this principle...? What if they really turn into lizards?!"
Spider-Man lay on the outside of the building, looking up and shielding his eyes as he watched the scene inside.
There was no scene of destruction as I had imagined, no lizard imagery that I had just imagined, and there wasn’t even a single person in the lab!
Where is the PhD student?
"You're asking me?"
"If I don't ask you, who should I ask? You could clearly continue observing!"
"Then let me ask you, didn't I tell you immediately?"
"Don't you know how to teleport!?"
"I've finished using it to see you."
"..."
Oz was furious because Peter had only been Spider-Man for a short time and hadn't experienced many things, so most of Oz's abilities were limited.
In other words, Spider-Man isn't very happy yet.
Observations outside the lab were not ideal, so Spider-Man changed his strategy and chose to crawl into the building's ventilation ducts.
When he came out of the pipe and arrived at the laboratory, he still did not see Dr. Connors.
This scene made Spider-Man feel a little bad.
Could it be that the doctor conducted human experiments on himself first?
Spider-Man was like a headless fly, frantically searching for any trace of the doctor in the laboratory.
However, the huge laboratory was completely empty, with only cold instruments beeping and running on their own.
"Hey, Parker, come here."
Oz flapped his wings toward the red and blue figure not far away.
"What's wrong?"
"Freddy is really going to become Freddy again."
"What?"
Spider-Man took three steps at a time and arrived at the cage where Freddy the white mouse was being held.
The reflective lenses on the headgear reflected the scene inside the cage.
Spider-Man's eyes widened in disbelief: "My God..."
The once sleek white rat Freddy had changed completely. All its fur had fallen out, revealing terrifying, scaly, emerald-green skin. It was much larger than before, and its fangs protruded from its mouth. It was no longer the cute creature it once was.
Upon seeing Spider-Man, it let out a squeak and pounced on him instantly!
Then he was slapped away by Oz.
"That scared me to death."
Spider-Man: ......
Spider-Man stared blankly at Freddy's current state, completely stunned.
Oz asked knowingly, "What now?"
Spider-Man muttered, "There's something wrong with the formula."
He then bent down slightly, picked up Freddy, who was about the size of a football, and looked at his ferocious appearance.
Spider-Man was completely baffled. "Luckily, the doctor's insistence was right, but why? Why is there a problem with the formula?"
"Don't worry about the formula, Parker, you're in big trouble."
Oz was in front of a computer in the lab. He pointed to the screen and gestured for Peter to come over quickly.
"What?"
Spider-Man walked over, and after seeing what Oz was pointing to, he froze again.
"A riot broke out at Brooklyn Veterans Hospital, and according to witnesses, it was instigated by a group of... reptilian people!"
"Damn it!" Spider-Man slammed his hand on the table. "That guy must have done human experimentation!"
"That's not just his problem," Oz said pointedly.
"I know."
Spider-Man's nonchalant attitude surprised Oz.
Peter had considered this problem beforehand, and if the formula went wrong, the responsibility would fall on him.
Spider-Man clenched his fist.
This was the first time he had faced a mess he himself had created.
"Let's deal with this riot first."
Spider-Man couldn't care less about where Dr. Connors was right now. He secretly hoped that Dr. Connors would notice this news and realize that the current formula was definitely not a spark that would benefit human society!
......
......
......
Brooklyn Veterans Hospital.
White police cars blocked the hospital entrance, and terrifying screams could be heard from inside, making the police officers on the perimeter swallow hard.
"What's the situation inside now?"
Police Inspector George Stacy, who was in charge of maintaining public order, arrived at the scene and asked his subordinates.
"According to hospital staff, those disabled veterans were supposed to be receiving the new winter flu vaccine," the subordinate said.
George frowned. "A disabled person getting a new flu vaccine?"
"I'm not sure, but that's what the hospital said."
George asked, "And then?"
"roar----"
The hysterical roar answered George's question for his subordinate.
This doesn't sound like a human being could make at all!
A bead of cold sweat trickled down his forehead as he continued, "Then, some people claimed that those who were originally disabled suddenly began to regenerate new limbs, but not long after, their skin began to develop scales..."
"So you mean they turned into a bunch of monsters?" George asked bluntly.
"......right."
In all his years as a police officer, this was the first time George had encountered a case that seemed to only happen in science fiction movies.
However, there's no need to dwell on the authenticity of the case right now.
His biggest concern was the issue of casualties.
"What are the casualties?"
"The statistics are not yet available."
"..."
George sighed, cocked his pistol, and then gave instructions to the other officers:
"I'm sure you all heard that roar. I won't explain whether it was made by some monster, but I'll just say this: if anything threatens your life, shoot!"
"clear!"
"No, you don't understand!"
A slightly childish voice suddenly came from above.
George turned around and saw a red and blue figure swinging over on a spider web.
They are masked individuals who have been unusually active recently... let's call them vigilantes for now.
This guy is even willing to "rescue" cats that are stuck in trees.
George doesn't have much affection for Spider-Man, because his duty is to protect the safety and order of the city, so for this kind of anarchist, their only option is to arrest him.
"I was just wondering how to catch you, but you delivered yourself right to my doorstep."
George raises his gun and aims it at Spider-Man.
Spider-Man raised his hands. "I can explain this. The lizard monsters inside are disabled veterans. If you shoot them, you're taking their lives!"
"So what should we do? Let them kill us?" George said.
"No, no," Spider-Man pleaded, "I know how to treat their symptoms, please believe me!"
"Why should I believe you, especially since you're wearing that ridiculous mask right now?" George felt the other man couldn't explain himself, and he wasn't going to let him go.
Spider-Man sighed. He guessed that the police officer who resembled Gwen was probably the father Gwen had mentioned. He hadn't expected him to be so troublesome.
If I really did get together with Gwen...
Wait for Peter!
It's not even close to happening yet!
What are you thinking?!
"Oz, do you have a solution?"
"I told you before, don't bother explaining to these officers... just wait."
