Chapter 267: The Shadow of a New Crisis
Chapter 267: The Shadow of a New Crisis
The life form slowly turned around, its gaze fixed firmly on the probe: "I am the new guardian. I have come to protect the universe."
The energy entity seemed enraged by the power of the new guardian. It let out a shriek and lunged at the probe ship once more. However, the young guardian was fearless. He raised his lightsaber and with a gentle swing, a blazing arc of energy ripped through the void, severing a portion of the energy entity.
The energy body trembled violently, but did not completely recede. Its surface began to crack, and energy surged from the cracks, forming several small secondary bodies.
“These things will not be easily given up,” the Guardian said calmly, runes gleaming in his eyes. “But I will not allow them to harm any corner of the universe.”
The guardian's power erupted completely, each of his attacks precisely slicing through the core of the energy entity. Finally, the energy entity emitted a violent roar, shattering into countless fragments and dissipating into the void.
At the edge of the universe, the residual energy from the rift has not completely dissipated. That ember-like power begins to gather in hidden corners, becoming more concealed yet impossible to ignore. Although new guardians have begun to awaken, the effects of the rift are far from over.
In another frontier dimension, a reconnaissance team was conducting a routine patrol. Their vessel slowly passed through a nebula, surrounded by a faint blue glow—a region that had once been the site of rift energy eruptions, now seemingly calm. Yet, everyone felt an unsettling sense of oppression.
"Captain, the energy fluctuations in this area are abnormal," a prober said nervously. "Although we can't detect any direct traces of the fissures, the space here is still unstable."
"Continue scanning." The captain frowned, his eyes fixed on the screen in front of him. "We need to confirm if there are any other potential threats here."
Suddenly, the ship's systems experienced a brief malfunction, with all instrument readings fluctuating violently. The surveyor exclaimed, "An unknown energy source is approaching! It's coming from... directly below us!"
The words had barely left his lips when the entire ship shuddered violently, as if gripped by some external force. The captain immediately gave the order: "Activate defensive shields! All personnel, prepare for battle!"
However, the ship's shield system was completely ineffective; the force easily breached the shields, dragging the ship directly into a distorted space. In this space, a familiar yet unfamiliar energy ripple emerged—the core power left behind by the rift—but its form had changed, becoming more aggressive.
"This...is a new variant of the Rift?" The captain was shocked. "Contact command immediately! We can't handle this threat!"
Meanwhile, the observer detected this unusual energy fluctuation through the star chart. Its voice echoed at the heart of the star chart: "The remnants of the rift are evolving into new forms, a threat more complex than we imagined. New guardians must be dispatched immediately to provide support."
Summoned by the star map, the newly awakened young guardian received an urgent command. He stood at the boundary of the dimension, gazing at the starry sky before him, gripping his rune sword tightly, and took a deep breath: "This is my first real battle... I hope I won't let them down."
The Observer's voice was gentle yet firm: "Do not be afraid, the power of the Guardians has become one with you. Your resolve and actions will determine the future of the universe. Remember, you are not alone, no matter what."
The young guardian nodded, and with a gentle swing of his rune sword, a bright starlight enveloped him. The next moment, his figure vanished into the starry sky, heading straight for the source of the energy fluctuations.
When the Guardian arrived at the battlefield, he saw that the probe ship was already enveloped by a distorted mass of energy, which was slowly but irresistibly devouring the ship's hull. The probe ship's crew was fighting desperately, but their weapons were useless against this mass of energy.
The Guardian took a deep breath and swung his rune sword, unleashing a powerful blade of light that slashed towards the energy cluster. The energy cluster let out a piercing shriek and quickly retreated, but it didn't completely retreat; instead, it focused its attention on the Guardian.
“This thing is intelligent…” the guardian muttered to himself, gripping his rune sword tightly, his eyes filled with caution. “It’s not an ordinary remnant of a rift, but some kind of evolved form.”
The energy orb hurtled toward the Guardian at an astonishing speed, its surface constantly shifting, forming countless twisted spikes and tentacles, as if the entire space itself were at its disposal. The Guardian swiftly dodged, simultaneously unleashing the light bestowed by the star map to collide head-on with the energy orb.
“Though its power is immense, it is not invincible.” The guardian gritted his teeth and persevered, each swing of his runic sword leaving a gleaming crack in the energy mass. However, the energy mass seemed capable of self-repair, with an even more violent power surging deep within its core.
"Where is its core?" the guardian pondered to himself. He closed his eyes and focused his attention on sensing the flow of energy. Soon, he detected an unusually faint but stable energy fluctuation—that was the core of the energy cluster.
"Found it!" The Guardian suddenly opened his eyes, concentrating all his power into the rune sword. The blade burned with a blazing light as he slashed straight at the center of the energy cluster.
The energy cluster let out a desperate scream as it tried to retaliate, but its defenses proved utterly vulnerable to the power of the runic sword. Ultimately, the guardian's attack struck its core, which instantly shattered, and the energy cluster dissipated into countless points of light in the void.
The crew of the probe ship witnessed this scene and were filled with awe and gratitude for the Guardian's power. The captain communicated to the Guardian: "Thank you for your assistance, Guardian. Without your help, we probably wouldn't have left here alive."
The Guardian calmly replied, “It is my duty. But this is only the beginning; the threat of the rift is not over. You should immediately report the situation here to the Observers so that a more comprehensive defense plan can be developed.”
The captain nodded. "Understood. Your strength has given us hope."
However, just as the guardian was about to leave, his gaze fell upon the location where the energy cluster had been. There, a faint energy fluctuation lingered. The fluctuation seemed to be silently conveying some kind of message, sending a chill down the guardian's spine.
“This energy… it doesn’t seem to have completely disappeared,” the Guardian murmured. “It’s only a part of it; the power of the rift is still hidden somewhere.”
When the Guardian relayed this discovery back to the Star Chart, the Observer quickly began its analysis. Its voice became low and calm: "The power of the rifts is mutating, and this is no accident. They are adapting to the rules of the universe, searching for new ways to survive."
"So, what should we do next?" the Guardian asked, his voice filled with anxiety.
“The threat of the Rift is evolving in a more covert and complex direction,” the Observer said. “We need to gather all the new Guardians and unite the forces of all dimensions in the universe to combat this new crisis.”
