Chapter 37 The Storm Is Brewing
Chapter 37 The Storm Is Brewing
Vicky Weir reached out and handed the microphone to the side, and the camera lens moved accordingly.
"Now, let's interview the police officer in charge of the Arkham bombing case."
Gordon, dressed in a police uniform, took the microphone.
Judging from the surrounding scenery, they were being interviewed at the entrance of the police station.
Cameras with long lenses were pointed at Gordon, and in the lenses pointing directly at him, you could see his proud expression and the police badge on the top of the door behind him.
"I am pleased to be here to share with you the latest developments in the Arkham bombing case."
Gordon remained unfazed, stating, "Based on the information we currently have, we can clearly inform you that Jonathan Klein, the former director of Arkham Asylum, was a key figure in the missing persons case."
"He abused his position as Dean of Arkham Hospital to conduct illegal human experiments for personal gain, while secretly engaging in organ trafficking to obtain huge profits."
"The Arkham secondary explosion was most likely orchestrated by him and his gang to destroy evidence," Gordon said, as a wanted poster appeared on the television screen.
The image above shows Jonathan Klein's face, then it's shrunk down and placed in the bottom right corner.
"This individual is skilled in manufacturing chemical drugs and is suspected of carrying dangerous chemicals. For the safety of the general public, we hope everyone will actively provide clues," Gordon said. "Again, on behalf of all members of the GCPD, I thank you all."
This was not what Vicky Weir wanted to hear. She reached for the microphone handed to her by someone next to her, and the cameraman immediately cut the camera to her face.
"Officer Gordon, regarding the criminal gang behind Klein that you just mentioned, is there any progress? Could you tell me about your suspects?"
This was exactly what Gordon wanted to hear. He nodded. "Yes, we found a large number of accounts and written documents in Arkham, which indicate that Klein had a long-standing relationship with Carmine Falcone..."
"Stop, James Gordon!"
Chief Luo hurriedly got out of the police car. He had been in the state for several days to attend an event and never expected that a second bombing would occur in Arkham.
Even though he immediately instructed his subordinates to keep James Gordon away by phone as soon as he received the news, he was not in Gotham and there were many things he could not do.
Today's media interview was unexpected. He rushed back from the state capital and was notified of the incident as soon as he got off the plane. He then took a car straight to the police station.
Seeing that all the cameras were pointed at him, Director Luo immediately put his years of experience in handling such situations to good use.
His eyes widened in anger, his expression righteous as he stepped out of the car and strode straight toward Gordon. "Who gave you permission to leak case information like that! There's a limit to how much you want to show off!"
His words immediately branded Gordon as a petty person who only cared about fame and fortune.
Gordon glanced away helplessly, while Brock next to him shrugged, giving him a "I knew it" look.
Seeing Luo Pu approach, Gordon stepped back two paces to make room.
"No one will be the criminal until the truth is fully revealed."
Director Luo stood in the middle of the main entrance, with cameras pointed at him and flashes from all around never stopping. "The suspect is just a suspect. The GCPD upholds judicial fairness and procedural justice and will never draw any conclusions rashly."
"So you think there's more to the Arkham bombing story than meets the eye?"
Vicky Weir, always at the forefront, posed a bold and incisive question: "Even if frontline officers find substantial evidence linking Carmine Falcone inside Arkham Asylum, do you still believe he is innocent?"
"Does this mean you have a considerable understanding of Carmine Falcone, or know something inside?"
The reporter's eyebrows were lowered, and her emerald green eyes resembled sharp scimitars. Even though she was in a lower position, her aura was so powerful that it seemed capable of overwhelming the person opposite her.
Director Luo felt a little tense under her gaze, and her words made him break out in a cold sweat.
Fortunately, other reporters were still asking questions.
"Chief Luo, what are your thoughts on the Arkham bombing?"
"Does your statement imply that GCPD memory was obtained through coercion?"
"What are your thoughts on Carmine Falcone...?"
A barrage of questions came flooding in, and Director Luo casually responded to a few that he could gloss over.
Whether it was the angle or not, Jung Eun noticed that he had covered most of the police badge on top of the gate. The reporters tried to follow him inside, but were stopped by the police officers outside.
That concludes the interview; the rest of the news is rather uninteresting, consisting of ordinary robberies, thefts, and murders, just like any other Gotham story.
The case was followed by endless wrangling and excuses, and despite reports from multiple media outlets, the GCPD has not released any further information.
Most people believe that no matter how big the incident gets, it will eventually fade away as usual, but those with a more discerning eye can vaguely sense something extraordinary about it.
It's like the calm before the storm.
It always rains in Gotham, but few people notice the signs that are about to come.
The attendant holding the umbrella stared blankly at the large screen on the street, the news being shown reflected in his eyes like dappled light.
People were coming and going on the street, all in a hurry.
Regardless of the undercurrents beneath the calm surface, most people simply continue living their ordinary lives as always.
Saturday afternoon arrived in the blink of an eye, the time for Zheng Enhe's scheduled interview with the company.
He took a taxi to the Upper East Side, where the Siennis Investment Company was located, on the fourteenth floor of the Kane Building.
These companies typically rent office space directly. The fact that they can rent an entire floor of the Kane Building indicates that they have substantial financial resources.
As soon as Jung Eun entered the building, she noticed that everyone around her looked like a busy, overworked office worker, exuding an aura of utter exhaustion.
The people riding in the elevator with him were all wearing shiny leather shoes and carrying briefcases; very few of them were even using their phones.
How terrifying, how realistic! It's like I've suddenly gone back to the time before I time-traveled, and I even have the feeling of squeezing into a big company interview by falsifying my resume.
Zheng En thought it would be better to spy on Batman fighting Scarecrow and help Batman deal with the aftermath.
A short while later, the elevator arrived at the fourteenth floor and, with a "ding," ejected a group of well-dressed office workers.
As Jung Eun walked forward between them, she couldn't help but notice the injuries on their faces.
Whether it was these people or others sitting at their workstations making phone calls, preparing documents, or checking financial reports, many of them had injuries on their faces, either bruises from bumps or scratches, some with tissues stuck in their noses, and some with tape on their heads.
No, do they usually fight each other while holding up their laptops?
