Chapter 27 Beast Eggs
With her feet touching the ground, Tang Zijun slowly stood up.
Before me lay an area forgotten by the entire city.
Rows of openwork buildings stand on the barren land, and in the distance, patches of blue sheet metal can be seen surrounding the area.
The unfinished buildings in the East District are still a relatively "famous" place.
Originally, this was an urban village. Influenced by the land and housing speculation craze, many people blindly invested in this place, preparing to build a high-end residential community.
The community consists of two areas: one side is apartment buildings and the other side is townhouses. At the beginning, the project encountered quite a lot of resistance, after all, it is urban construction work, and it is not easy to get started.
But then someone spread rumors that a large shopping mall was going to be built near the neighborhood, which immediately boosted investors' confidence.
Just six months after the planning and land use procedures were completed and the entire residential project started construction, the developer became embroiled in debt disputes, and rumors soon spread that someone had absconded with the money.
At this point, everyone became restless.
The biggest fear in joint ventures is encountering incompetent partners; if one runs away, another will inevitably follow.
Ultimately, the development project came to a long standstill. It's said that the lawsuits alone lasted for several years, and the unfinished houses were simply abandoned in this place.
Back in Snow City, this was quite a big deal, so Tang Zijun had heard her neighbors mention it.
However, this place has now become a popular spot for "ghost hunters" to take photos, and Tang Zijun can even see the wigs and fishing lines they left here.
Just as Tang Zijun was observing his surroundings, Xiaobai finally arrived beside him after a few leaps.
"I'm warning you, if you throw me into some random place again, I won't be so polite!"
Tang Zijun snapped out of her reverie and turned her gaze to Xiaobai with renewed interest. "Really? How are you going to treat me rudely?"
"I'll tickle you, it'll hurt so much!" Little White said solemnly.
Upon hearing this, Tang Zijun couldn't help but chuckle, then looked back at the unfinished buildings. "Xiaobai, at this close range, you should be able to sense the exact location of that thing, right?"
Xiao Bai glared at Tang Zijun, then immediately remembered their original purpose for coming here, so she quickly looked around as if she was looking for something.
Tang Zijun was also curious about her method of sensing the heretical demons, so she didn't disturb her and quietly stood aside to wait.
A few seconds later, Xiaobai's ears suddenly perked up, and its eyes fixed on a building not far away.
Seeing that Xiaobai had stopped moving, Tang Zijun followed her gaze.
Sure enough, inside that building, Tang Zijun heard a faint, eerie sound, like someone tapping something rhythmically.
"Did you hear anything?" Tang Zijun asked.
Xiao Bai gave Tang Zijun a strange look. "No, why do you ask?"
"So how do you usually detect the energy of heretical demons? Do you rely on your sense of smell?" Tang Zijun asked again.
Little White rolled her eyes. "I'm a cat, not a dog. Besides, do you think this is an inspection? You think you can rely on scent?"
"The heretical demons are born from extreme evil. When they invade reality, their own corruption begins to pollute the surrounding environment. And finding the heretical demons relies on my own perception of 'evil' and so on. Why should I explain so much to you?"
"Is it not through conventional physical means, but through the abstract perception of evil intentions? Is it the power of magical girls, or is it something more mysterious?"
"Is there anything more mysterious than you!?" Little White bared its teeth and brandished its claws.
"Don't get so worked up. No matter what, we're comrades in the same camp." Tang Zijun shrugged.
It seems that Xiaobai was unaware of the existence of the Reversal World and the Greedy Ones; her only surprise was discovering that she possessed special powers.
Then a new question arises: since Xiaobai is unaware of the existence of the Greedy Ones, it means that she hasn't been a spirit beast for very long. Under such circumstances, how did the other party know about the existence of the Heretic Demons?
Just as Tang Zijun was about to ask a question, a strange sound suddenly came from afar. The sound was the same as the sound of knocking on something earlier, except that the rhythm of the sound had become more intense.
Tang Zijun frowned, then her gaze locked onto the unfinished building from which the sound was coming.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The sound gradually grew heavy, each thud seeming to strike one's heart.
This time, even Xiaobai noticed the strange situation, and her expression immediately became much more serious.
"I don't know what you are, but since you can transform, you should be confident you can handle the guys here, right?"
"To be honest, I don't know much about the Outer Path Demons, so I can't guarantee anything. I can only say that I will do my best." Tang Zijun took a step and headed straight for the direction from which the voice came.
A moment later, Tang Zijun and Xiaobai entered the unfinished building, and the bizarre creation before them stunned them into silence.
The latest novel is first published here!
In the dimly lit corner, there was a huge and bizarre deformed object.
The thing's outer shell was a deep black, covered with orange bubbles of all sizes, and a viscous liquid slowly flowing down from it.
The liquid emitted a faint, pungent odor, the same one Tang Zijun had smelled before.
In the dim light, something seemed to be wriggling inside those bubbles. Upon closer inspection, tiny bumps could be seen on them, resembling closed eyeballs.
The heavy thumping sound came from inside the thing, as if something inside was struggling to get out.
Just looking at this thing made Tang Zijun feel a little sluggish.
He had never seen such a bizarre toy before.
Before Tang Zijun could express any sentiments, she heard Xiaobai scream from the side.
"A monster egg!!"
"What are alien beast eggs?" Tang Zijun asked, her face full of curiosity.
"You can even transform, yet you don't know what a monster egg is?" Xiaobai was dumbfounded.
"This is truly the first time I've ever seen something like this." Tang Zijun was a little embarrassed, paused, and then explained, "The guys I've dealt with before weren't this type."
The greedy beings in the mirror dimension usually crawl out of the mirror in the dead of night. It is a kind of "mental attack". Although it is terrifying, it does not have such a great visual impact.
The guy in front of her was already making Tang Zijun feel a little nauseous.
The difference between the two is like the difference between a horror movie and a zombie movie.
