Chapter 68 Peeping into Dreams
Chapter 68 Peeping into Dreams
Director Shi is the deputy head of the task force, and this is his primary responsibility right now. Coordinating equipment and resources is also his bounden duty. Yu Zhen, on the other hand, leverages his advantage as the host, ensuring that logistical support will be handled flawlessly, at least within the brigade's own territory.
Everyone was busy until six o'clock, then Yu Zhen arranged for everyone to eat. After eating, everyone went about their business, while Director Shi, Yu Zhen, Zheng Han, and Yu Xiufeng waited for Feng Weixu to arrive.
Director Shi had met Feng Weixu before, and thus knew that Zheng and Yu treated him quite differently. During a break, he asked, "I see that Professor Feng from Yuecheng University isn't very old, is he already a top expert in the field?"
"Of course it counts," Zheng Han said matter-of-factly. "Professor Feng has published two papers as the first author in Cognition, which is a top journal in the field of cognitive science. In terms of professional value alone, it surpasses Nature and Science."
"Wow, that's amazing?!" The division chief was quite surprised. Although he had never heard of "Cognition," he knew the significance of a top journal and a first author.
"I didn't realize that." Yu Zhen was also surprised. He knew that Feng Weixu was introduced by Wei Hongsi, and thought he was just an ordinary university scholar. Who knew he was such a genius?
Yu Xiufeng said, "Professor Feng's mentor is Academician Zhou Qihong. A good teacher produces a good student!"
"Oh, no wonder." Director Shi nodded. He had heard of Zhou Qihong's reputation and had even met him once at an event.
The four chatted for a few minutes before Feng Weixu arrived. He was accompanied by a young woman.
After exchanging greetings with acquaintances, Feng Weixu introduced, "This is my classmate, Dai Mengqi, who joined this project with me."
"Welcome, welcome! Thank you for your great help!" Director Shi smiled and shook hands with Dai Mengqi. He noticed that the girl wasn't very tall, probably just over 1.6 meters, around 26 or 27 years old. She had delicate features, short hair that reached her ears, and looked quite capable.
"Welcome, Teacher Dai." Zheng Han and the others shook hands with Dai Mengqi.
"You're too kind, everyone," Dai Mengqi said with a smile.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Yu Zhen led them to the conference room on the fifth floor.
Yu Xiufeng lagged a little behind and patted Zheng Han lightly on the shoulder. Zheng Han paused and looked at Yu Xiufeng.
"Have you heard of that Teacher Dai?" Yu Xiufeng asked in a low voice.
"Professor Feng has a paper published in 'Cognition,' and she is the second author," Zheng Han said quietly.
"Oh!" Yu Xiufeng exclaimed in realization, "So they really are classmates."
The concept of "classmate" is quite broad, but the so-called "true classmate" refers to someone taught by the same teacher.
Director Shi, walking ahead of the two, overheard their conversation. He thought to himself, "So, this young Teacher Dai is quite capable. Once Teacher Wei finds two more experts, we should have enough manpower, right?"
After everyone sat down in the conference room, Yu Xiufeng gave the introductions again.
This time, after he finished introducing the first phase of the work, the subsequent plans were all based on what Wei Hongsi had talked about in the afternoon.
After listening, Feng Weixu said, "Your approach sounds very reasonable. So, the next step is to decide on the implementation plan?"
"We have drawn up a framework plan, and we would like to ask Professor Feng and Professor Dai to discuss and improve it together." Yu Xiufeng put the table prepared by Wei Hongsi on the big screen.
Feng Weixu and Dai Mengqi looked at it from top to bottom, their expressions thoughtful.
After a while, Dai Mengqi asked, "I'd like to ask, which teacher devised this plan?"
"That teacher has something to do tonight and can't come," Zheng Han replied. "Does Teacher Dai have any concerns? We can discuss it first."
"I only have one question," Dai Mengqi tilted her head and looked at the big screen, "This plan is just too reasonable, isn't it? It's like it was tailor-made for us."
Zheng Han was almost stunned by her words, but she quickly realized that when Dai Mengqi said "we," she meant her and Feng Weixu.
Feng Weixu glanced at Dai Mengqi's exaggerated expression, then turned his head and smiled without saying a word.
Yu Xiufeng didn't quite understand Dai Mengqi's words: "Professor Dai, your question is, is this plan too reasonable?"
"Yes!" Dai Mengqi left her seat and walked to the big screen, pointing to the top and saying, "I was really surprised that you guys could estimate the time required for 'building a basic language stimulus database' so accurately."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Feng Weixu and asked, "Was it your suggestion?"
Feng Weixu shook his head seriously: "Absolutely not. I'm just like you, a newcomer to this project, and this is the first time I've seen this plan."
Dai Mengqi looked at him with some suspicion, feeling that his smile just now didn't seem like that of a good person.
Yu Xiufeng then asked, "Does Teacher Dai think a week is just right?"
"No, I think a day should be enough." Dai Mengqi returned to her seat. "I have a fairly complete basic language stimulation library. It just needs minor adjustments and safety adaptations for comatose patients. A day should be enough."
Zheng Han and Yu Xiufeng couldn't help but stand up, both of them with expressions of disbelief.
Building a basic language stimulus database is the most time-consuming task in the early stages, and it cannot be combined with subsequent work. So, does this Professor Dai have one already?
Zheng Han paused for a moment, then asked, "Could the two teachers please take another look and see if there are any problems with the time estimates for the other steps?"
"I don't think there's a big problem," Dai Mengqi said, looking at the screen. "Hmm, we can delete the column with the longest processing time."
Zheng Han asked incredulously, "Is it really possible to complete this by following the minimum timeframe?"
Dai Mengqi asked, "Which part of the lesson did Teacher Zheng have a question about?"
Zheng Han asked, "Can the work of building that 'neural translation package' be completed in a week?"
Dai Mengqi casually nudged Feng Weixu: "I'm asking you, what are you laughing at?"
"I wasn't laughing," Feng Weixu replied seriously, making Dai Mengqi wonder if she had just imagined it.
He said seriously, "Teacher Zheng, I have some basic skills in this task and can guarantee that I can complete it within the time limit. However, I need to add another helper, who is also my classmate."
"Oh, well... that's no problem," Zheng Han said somewhat hesitantly.
Suddenly, he remembered another paper by Feng Weixu published in Cognition, which discussed solutions to this type of problem, and suddenly everything became clear to him.
Professor Wei must have read the paper and knew that Professor Feng would be joining the project, which is why he compressed this part of the process to one week.
Why didn't I think of that before!
The four then refined the details of the entire plan. The two most time-consuming and difficult tasks were solved efficiently because they found the right people, making the rest of the work much easier.
