Chapter 52 Double Harvest
Chapter 52 Double Harvest
Yuecheng is a riverside city with numerous waterways and well-developed water transport, resulting in a multitude of wharves. Many of these ancient wharves, rich in history and culture, have become famous tourist attractions. And where there is a concentration of visitors, there is never a shortage of places to eat.
Wei Hongsi had assumed that Ji Cheng had invited everyone to dinner at a restaurant by the river. However, upon arriving and getting out of the car, he discovered that it was not quite what he had expected.
This is a passenger terminal, and I don't know if it's the wrong time, but there aren't many passengers at this hour. Looking left and right, I don't see any grand buildings. In comparison, the rows of gray and white buildings in the terminal area look more like restaurants.
Wei Hongsi couldn't help but wonder why he chose such a place to host a dinner party, as it didn't seem to match Ji Cheng's aura and wasn't very close to the city center.
As he was pondering this, he suddenly heard someone call out, "Engineer Wei, over here!"
Looking in the direction of the sound, she saw Ji Cheng waving and walking briskly towards her. She stepped forward to greet him, saying, "Mr. Ji, hello!"
"I'm so glad you could come today!" Ji Cheng shook hands with Wei Hongsi with a beaming smile and patted his arm lightly twice.
"I am also very happy and honored," Wei Hongsi said.
"Come on, let's go inside and sit for a while. The others will be here soon," Ji Cheng said, leading Wei Hongsi inside.
The two entered through a door on the side of the dock, turned left into a small building, one of the row of gray and white buildings that Wei Hongsi had been observing earlier. It was clear from inside that this was an office building, but it wasn't surprising that it also had a dedicated dining hall for entertaining guests.
Ji Cheng led Wei Hongsi to a reception room and arranged for someone to make tea.
Wei Hongsi said, "President Ji, I don't drink tea. How about I have a bottle of your new beverage instead?"
Ji Cheng was delighted to hear this: "I can't say about other things, but we can have as many of these as you want." He then had a plate of drinks brought over, including all three flavors of the new product.
Wei Hongsi chose the one he had drunk on set before, and then asked about the new product launch last Saturday.
Ji Cheng recounted the events of that day to him, a hint of pride in his expression, for he was the main planner of the entire event.
After listening, Wei Hongsi learned that the official start time for the park's new product launch event was 10:00 a.m., but the pre-event activities started at 9:30 a.m., with interactive activities such as games and lucky draws to engage with the audience.
Also starting from the pre-launch phase, the park launched an online live stream through a video platform, and played promotional videos for the new products during breaks in the event. As for the promotional videos distributed on other platforms and various media, those will be released after the new product launch.
This indicates that the park's new product, GG, was released around 9:30, about an hour earlier than Mu Jie's appearance. Although there may not be a causal relationship, it makes sense in the timeline.
However, there was one difference from Wei Hongsi's previous assumptions. The park completed the first round of new product GG launches via online live stream, meaning that it could be seen anywhere with internet access.
Therefore, this clue can only provide very limited assistance to the brothers; it's probably better than nothing.
This made Wei Hongsi feel somewhat regretful.
Ji Cheng asked, "Engineer Wei, are you trying to find out the organization behind this?"
It wasn't that Wei Hongsi was being overly emotional; he had just asked a few questions about the new product launch, but his focus had actually strayed from the event itself, which Ji Cheng could easily see.
Wei Hongsi did not deny it: "Yes, I want to find some useful clues to provide to the police."
Ji Cheng said, "Our company has also done some investigation into this matter. Although it is not directly related to the case we encountered, it is very likely to be related."
Wei Hongsi asked, "Can you tell me?"
"Why not? It's not a secret," Ji Cheng said with a smile.
The day after the successful product launch, Pang Weizhi, along with Ji Cheng, gave a detailed report to their group's president. Subsequently, the Paradise Group convened a board meeting specifically to discuss this crisis.
Most board members only realized at this point that the group's strategy to launch this new product had nearly suffered a major setback. They are a physical business, and once the company's operations experience a severe shock, the cost of recovering would be extremely high.
Although this time it was a close call, who can guarantee there won't be a next time? They may not care about the fate of Mu Jie and Peng Jun, but they must be wary of being helpless in the face of a similar situation again, and they certainly cannot place their hopes on others. Therefore, the amusement park needs to establish a corresponding response mechanism and improve the company's emergency plans.
The group's finance department played a very important role in this work.
The CFO believes that their overseas listing is a major reason why they become targets. It's always much easier to make huge profits in overseas markets than domestically.
Following this line of thought, with so many overseas-listed companies, there should be plenty of targets to exploit. Why did the mastermind specifically target amusement parks? If they had that capability, they shouldn't have limited their focus to amusement parks.
So the group's finance director led a team to conduct a simple investigation of all companies with overseas assets exceeding 1000 billion yuan, and screened out more than 70 companies that had experienced a significant drop in market value in the past three years. Then, they conducted a further detailed investigation of these 70 companies.
They conducted four rounds of this work, and finally screened out seven companies. At least based on publicly available financial data, it seems that they have encountered a scheme by a behind-the-scenes manipulator, and two of these companies are the most likely candidates.
Ji Cheng said, "It's hard to say about the others, but we can definitely get the list of those companies. However, I still need to ask my superiors about this."
Wei Hongsi thanked him.
He thought about it for a moment and realized that the information Ji Cheng provided was actually quite useful. Although the case his brother and his team were investigating was limited to domestic matters, the relevant investigations could be handled by the special task force.
He believes that if relevant departments intervene, the scope and depth of their investigation will far exceed that of a single company. This investigation may not ultimately uncover and bring the culprits to justice, but it will at least clarify which organization is responsible for this activity.
For him personally, this result is enough.
He silently opened the "System" panel again to check. The main quest was to find the mastermind behind the GG trap at the amusement park. That's right, just find them. Perhaps his previous understanding of the objective was too ambitious.
The two stopped talking when someone came in. They'd covered most of what needed to be said, and decided to continue their conversation later when they had more time.
The first to arrive were three young men, one of whom Wei Hongsi recognized—he had visited Zhiwei Technology with Ji Cheng before, during their first meeting. These men were all on Ji Cheng's side.
A short while later, Lu Jiaqi arrived, accompanied by two other people, a man and a woman, who were also from her project team.
When Ji Cheng called Wei Hongsi earlier, he mentioned that he had invited Lu Jiaqi; otherwise, Wei Hongsi might not have agreed to the invitation. Although he wasn't socially anxious, he wasn't good at socializing with strangers. In a group gathering, it's always better to have someone you know who you can talk to.
When Lu Jiaqi saw Wei Hongsi, she smiled and went up to greet him, introducing the two people who had come with her to Wei Hongsi. They all worked for the same company, so they naturally gathered together.
People arrived one after another, and Wei Hongsi then noticed that the people who came were all quite young.
He remembered that when he first met Ji Cheng, there was a middle-aged man in his forties, but he didn't appear this time.
After waiting for a while, two people came in. Ji Cheng stood to the side and announced loudly, "Teacher Shen Qing is here!"
"Wow!"
A chorus of screams erupted in the reception room, and everyone rushed toward the door, but they remained relatively restrained, still giving Shen Qing some space.
Shen Qing smiled and waved to everyone, saying, "Hello everyone!"
Everyone immediately responded in unison, and Shen Qing responded politely to each one.
Wei Hongsi was a little stunned by this scene; he really didn't expect Shen Qing to appear.
Seeing this, Lu Jiaqi couldn't help but chuckle and whispered to Wei Hongsi, "Didn't President Ji tell you? Today is kind of a mini fan meeting for Shen Qing. It's just that everyone who came was someone who worked with Shen Qing during the filming of Paradise GG."
"Hehe, President Ji didn't tell me," Wei Hongsi said with a smile. He was just surprised that Shen Qing came, but not to the point of feeling uncomfortable.
Ji Cheng watched for a while, and seeing that the pleasantries were almost over, he said, "Alright, everyone, don't crowd around Teacher Shen Qing yet. Let's prepare to board the ship. You'll be spending the night with Teacher Shen Qing, so there's no rush."
The people surrounding Shen Qing consciously made way for her.
Shen Qing smiled and waved to everyone, "Actually, I still hope everyone will just call me by my name. I'm not very old and haven't accomplished much, so I feel guilty calling me 'teacher,' and it makes me sound a bit old."
Her statement immediately drew praise from the crowd, with many showering her with compliments.
Watching from behind, Wei Hongsi thought Shen Qing was indeed quite interesting. It was just a pity that he couldn't understand her singing at all, otherwise he might have become a potential fan.
Ji Cheng led Shen Qing away first, with the others following behind.
After leaving the small building and walking towards the river, there is a pier-like dock not far away, where a tourist boat is moored.
Several crew members stood at the entrance, watching as people boarded the ship in an orderly fashion.
Wei Hongsi followed behind and boarded the boat. He thought to himself, "As expected, President Ji wouldn't arrange the location so plainly; this place suits his style much better."
