Chapter 30: Sir Bear
Chapter 30: Sir Bear
Sir William recounted that the Kingsguard, in addition to their bravery, always possessed nobility and handsomeness.
But even in his white robes, Sir Jorah before us did not appear particularly handsome.
Princess Daenerys felt a pang of regret for judging people by their appearance.
The knight thanked Viserys repeatedly and expressed his loyalty to his king.
Viserys always maintained a respectful and courteous demeanor towards his subordinates.
It seems this set of Royal Guard attire from the treasure chest is quite effective, His Majesty thought.
Since Lord Illyrio's servants had all been driven away, Daenerys had to personally escort Ser Jorah to his residence.
The two left the room, and Daenerys ordered the Unsullied to return Ser Jorah's belongings to him.
The knight thanked the princess very politely, which changed Daenerys's perception of the distant North. In her mind, the people of the North should be not only brave and valiant, but also very...heroic?
Ser Jorah's belongings consisted of nothing more than a water pouch, a short sword, and a heavy cloth bag whose contents were unknown.
And a longsword, but the Jazz probably don't need it now; Viserys gave him a better, more ornate one.
As a member of the Kingsguard, Ser Jorah was supposed to live closer to his king, and in the princess's opinion, he was placed in the room next to his brother Viserys.
"It's just a small thing, Your Highness. I would very much like to bring some valuable gifts, but as poor as I am, all I can offer is my loyalty and courage, and books from my hometown."
He watched as the man entered the room alone, seemingly pleased with himself, and then took out a stack of books from the cloth bag that had piqued his curiosity.
"This book contains the history of the Seven Kingdoms and the songs of those legends. I particularly like the one about Sir Duncan the Tall."
Ser Jorah tried his best to make his less-than-handsome appearance offensive to the princess before him.
"You need not feel apologetic; this is of great value to me, Sir." Daenerys's apparent interest in the gift put Jorah at ease.
As she stroked the books, Daenerys felt the ancient simplicity that carried the history of her homeland. To be honest, most of what she knew about the Seven Kingdoms came from Sir William's oral accounts.
But Sir William was a valiant warrior, and he always picked topics that interested him, such as Sir Arthur Dayne's unparalleled bravery or the dangers of the battlefield.
Of course, he also had to consider how despicable and evil the usurper was in his eyes.
Perhaps I can learn other things from books.
The princess accepted the gift; it seems she won't be bored anytime soon.
As usual, Viserys invited all the players to dine together in the spacious banquet hall during dinner that night.
This makes it easier for him to ask what tricks the two most "troublesome" groups of players who stayed at home have come up with at any time.
His Majesty the King must always be on guard against these guys blowing his courtyard to the sky one day.
Thanks to most players joining their respective guilds and taking on mercenary missions to leave the courtyard, the spacious banquet hall wouldn't have been able to accommodate three thousand players.
To be honest, most players were disgusted after trying the food in the game once. But gradually, players discovered that they could go offline to take care of their physiological needs, but their in-game characters could not recover on their own after logging off.
Players who discovered this could only grit their teeth and eat the local culinary disasters while secretly praying that the two native cooks who had just been recruited to the courtyard would at least make something decent.
Sir Jorah was momentarily stunned and his mind went blank. He had never expected to find so many loyal subjects of the former dynasty in a foreign land.
He had thought that besides the Unsullied, he was the only sworn knight around His Majesty, but he hadn't expected there to be so many people who harbored Targaryen sentiments.
This shows that he, the Imperial Guard, had no other choice but to seek refuge.
Although the knight served as a pawn by His Majesty's side as instructed by the Octopus Spider in order to exonerate himself from the royal family, this act was, in a strict sense, far less noble than one who sought refuge in a desperate situation.
But the Jazz had already made up his mind to distance himself from the other side of the strait. In order to maintain his position in the heart of the true dragon, he naturally forgot all about the deer and spiders on the other side of the strait.
What? You're saying I'll be restored to my knighthood if I do a good job? Sorry, I'm already a member of His Majesty Viserys's Royal Guard. Please don't contact me anymore, or His Majesty might misunderstand.
Ser Jorah wished two assassins would suddenly appear from some hidden corner so he could draw his sword and prove his worth and loyalty before His Majesty.
"Who's that? A new NPC?"
"I don't know, but looking at his size, if I were to fight him one-on-one, I feel like I would be slightly outmatched."
"You're not even worth bragging about, are you? You're still a step behind. In less than three seconds, he'll be kneeling on the ground begging you not to die."
"Speaking of which, didn't any of you notice his armor? Honestly, I'm envious."
Players were equally curious about the sudden appearance of Jorah Mormont, and the Grenadier players even started discussing how many times this guy, who looked as strong as a brown bear, would have to kill their leader before he got tired.
Meanwhile, the Brotherhood Without Flags players were tirelessly debating what dosage of drug to administer to this behemoth so as to kill him without wasting any.
Sir Jorah repeatedly declined His Majesty's offer, standing faithfully behind him and solemnly observing the players, whom he considered to be no different from mercenaries, in a relaxed manner.
Of course, the knight assured him that he absolutely did not look down on these people. A few years ago, he would have even dared to say that if given a thousand well-trained knights, he would be able to sweep away the Dothraki, whom the governors of Pentos avoided at all costs.
But now, even someone as brave as him would never underestimate any mercenary, no matter how insignificant or even weak.
Whether now or in the future, he will treat every opponent equally, even if the opponent is a woman or an old man.
Just as the Grenadier and Brotherhood Without Banner players were complaining that the new cook's pigeon and apple stew was terrible,
A mercenary group composed of players' guilds called "Heroes' Guild" is in danger outside the city of Pentos.
"Are the local bandits this brazen?! They've only just left the city! Even bandits who robbed the county magistrate weren't this arrogant!"
As a veteran player and a scout, the sister-in-law naturally succumbed to the temptations of Lin San Gongzi's money and chose to submit.
They thought the bandit-suppression mission would be no different from a leisurely stroll, but little did they know that their group of thirty mercenaries would be targeted as soon as they left the city.
"Tch! Wait till I get back and have my men kill you all!" The sister-in-law, who had been shot in the back, ran with two of her players, glancing back as she went.
