Chapter 37 Theme Day
Chapter 37 Theme Day
Chapter 37 Theme Day (2)
In the United States, a homecoming event is held at the beginning of each school year, usually on a weekend. Monday through Friday of this week are designated as themed days, with activities such as decorating the school, dressing up, and participating in activities like a signature wall or graffiti. Friday features a homecoming football game, and Saturday is the homecoming dance. The purpose of these events is arguably to help new students integrate into the campus and to foster a sense of belonging among returning students.
But in reality, it all turns into play.
"I didn't intentionally try to be antisocial. I just didn't know what kind of person to dress up as. You know what? When I searched for female superheroes or villains online, the costumes were so outrageous that even I couldn't stand them, let alone my dad."
As Gwen walked, she complained to Peter about why most female superheroes dressed so provocatively. Given the appearance of their uniforms, it was impossible for Sheriff George to spend money to buy Gwen a cosplay outfit.
She and Peter were among the few who dressed much like ordinary people. The only difference was that Peter, disguised as someone, wore regular clothes, while Gwen couldn't get her hands on a uniform at all.
"And then you know what they'll say. I'm just standing here all alone in the middle of a bunch of people dressed in bright colors. Ugh, how embarrassing is that?"
"You could have asked me beforehand; maybe I could have given you a recommendation."
"Great idea, why didn't I think of that?"
"If someone asks you which superhero you're playing, just say you're playing Hungry Wolf Girl."
"Who is that?"
"Um, it's from the same series as my character."
Gwen had no idea what kind of character this was, but she didn't say anything more. Peter, on the other hand, glanced behind him; he could sense someone watching him, his spider-sense never giving up.
It's Culkin again? He's really got his eye on me now, but why? Is it because he suspects I'm Spider-Man? Because I was bitten by the spider he put on my neck, and Culkin witnessed the whole thing.
What does he plan to do after confirming this? What connections will he have with some villainous organization? ...
"Peter? Peter!"
"Hmm? Oh, sorry, I was still thinking about Kalkin."
Although it wasn't entirely true, Peter still apologized and then asked Gwen, "What did you just say?"
"I asked if you wanted to come with me to pick out an outfit after school. I originally thought this themed day would only last one day, but I didn't expect it to last this long."
"Forehead……"
Seeing Peter's hesitation, Gwen raised an eyebrow: "What, is there anywhere else you want to go?"
"It's hard to say...we'll have to wait for the news."
He also planned to borrow the computers and Jarvis from Avengers Tower to analyze Culkin's recent actions. If Culkin really suspected that he was Spider-Man, Peter would have to find a way to counter him.
"Are you hiding something from me? You've been acting all mysterious since you started high school, and we haven't been going to and from school together much."
Gwen, noticing Peter lost in thought again, couldn't help but ask. Peter quickly waved his hand, "No, absolutely not, don't worry. If anything happens to me, I'll definitely tell you."
"It's settled then, you'll come with me to buy clothes today."
"OK……"
Having barely managed to appease Gwen, Peter and Gwen continued to survey the campus. Due to the broad nature of the superhero theme and the diversity of costumes, most of the school was actually filled with a strangely joyful atmosphere. Because besides those tight-fitting cosplay costumes and tough guys like Harry in his electric wheelchair, there's another way to cosplay as a superhero: mascot costumes.
And it's one thing for someone to wear a Sonic costume, but why is there a Pikachu? Can this really be considered a superhero?
Of course, there were also some familiar faces at the event, such as senior Jessica, whose outfit was exactly that of Sherlock Holmes: a deerstalker hat, a double-breasted coat, and a shawl cape. She looked exactly like Sherlock Holmes at first glance.
"Hey, Peter. Oh, hey, Doctor."
Jessica clearly recognized who Peter was dressed up as. Conversely, faced with this easily recognizable outfit, Peter couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure you're dressed as a superhero? You're just dressed as... Sherlock Holmes."
"Hey, Parker! Sherlock Holmes is definitely a superhero, why not!"
After Jessica finished complaining, she saw Gwen and happily said, "Hello, I'm Jessica, the head of the detective agency. Peter is a member of our agency."
"Hey, I'm Gwen, we're... friends."
After a brief self-introduction, Peter felt Kalkin's gaze again. He switched tactics, no longer giving Kalkin any feedback, letting him stealthily do as he pleased. Peter decided to see what Kalkin was up to.
But Culkin was beginning to doubt the validity of his answer. There was nothing strange about Peter Parker; he couldn't even find a Spider-Man suit in his closet, and Parker didn't recognize him either.
Culkin, caught in a dilemma, began to wonder how to resolve these issues. He was planning to follow Peter after school today to see if he was the so-called Spider-Man when he unexpectedly discovered a video on his phone.
It was a video of Spider-Man helping ordinary people and beating up thugs. That's not important. What's important is that it was released just now, and Spider-Man has already changed into his new suit. The action and every other angle looked perfect.
All of this left Culkin utterly confused. Was Peter Parker really not Spider-Man? Had he made a mistake? Had that spider not granted Peter Parker any powers?
-
The one who released the video and dressed up as Spider-Man was, unsurprisingly, Chameleon. With Quentin Baker's help, he delivered another outstanding performance, this time fully dressed as a superhero. To prevent the Punisher from suddenly appearing on the street and killing everyone, Quentin handled the entire performance by himself. He used projection to transform the warehouse into a street and then sealed it off, luring Spider-Man to the building at the model point, where Spider-Man's doom would be.
The chameleon couldn't help but take a deep breath at the thought of the humiliation Spider-Man had brought him, but Quentin Baker didn't think that way. He thought of Spider-Man, wondering why the other man knew his name, and something even more important.
Quentin lay face down in front of the huge fish tank and couldn't help but mutter to himself.
"Infrared vision...infrared...infrared light is also light?"
Another chapter that I feel isn't very well written.
