Chapter 23 Game Mission
Chapter 23 Game Mission
The group followed behind the village chief.
After passing through the thick fog, Geng Yao became excited when she saw the low houses that were vaguely visible hidden in the fog.
"Oh my god! Bai Wei, why didn't you say the game's scenery was so novel and interesting!"
Geng Yao turned her head excitedly, looking left and right. She had always been an enthusiast of this kind of thing; while others might focus more on gameplay, Geng Yao preferred the different game world background stories.
And clearly, the game's setting was something she had never seen before! At least, she had never seen these houses before!
She immediately strode over to the village chief and began her overly familiar and friendly conversation: "Village chief, village chief, may I ask what these houses in your village are made of?"
The village chief did not answer, and continued walking forward expressionlessly as if he had not heard Geng Yao's words.
Geng Yao, however, remained completely unaffected and continued chattering around the village chief: "Village chief, what are we here to investigate?"
"How many days will our research take?"
"What kind of research is this?"
……
Fang Haoyu couldn't help but sneer, "Class monitor, don't waste your time..."
"The NPCs in this game don't even have properly adjusted expressions, so how could they possibly have intelligent question-and-answer functionality? They're obviously the kind of trash NPCs that just spout pre-programmed, fixed dialogue—"
Before he could finish speaking, the village chief, who had been silent until now, actually spoke up, whether triggered by a key phrase or as if deliberately slapping him in the face: "Didn't you contact us saying you were interested in our local wedding customs and wanted to experience the entire process?"
Huh?
Tian Baiwei, who was at the back, glanced at the village chief in surprise.
She didn't expect... that the village chief would actually be able to answer her questions!
No wonder she had no idea how to play the game the first time she tried it; she was too busy admiring the scenery.
At that time, she was wondering why the game's designers would design such a long road, just so the village chief could lead her to the village.
At first, Tian Baiwei thought the game developers wanted players to appreciate this unique scenery. She never expected it would be so that they could ask the village chief questions!
Damn it, she missed so many clues last time!
Not only did she not think of talking to the village chief at all, but the village chief was also designed in a very strange way—if she didn't ask, the village chief wouldn't say anything at all—completely different from the NPCs in other games who try to fill you with the entire game background right from the start.
"Oh right, right..."
Upon hearing the village chief's reply, Geng Yao immediately responded without thinking, "Then, village chief, when can we learn about the local wedding customs and traditions?" She couldn't wait any longer!
The village chief said in a flat tone: "The complete process you want to see needs to be prepared in advance."
Geng Yao nodded in understanding: "Village Chief, how long does it usually take to prepare?" She could wait!
"How long..." the village chief suddenly turned around, "That depends on you..."
Huh? What does that mean?
The village chief stopped and led the group to a few houses. "You can stay here for the next few days... You can decide how you want to stay."
After saying that, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. "These..."
"These are things that need to be prepared before the wedding."
He handed the note to Geng Yao, then said slowly, "Whenever you have everything ready, the ceremony... will begin."
The others gathered around when they saw this.
Holding the note, Geng Yao struggled to read the words: "Red candles, red cloth... uh, what money? The character for 'what' seems to be blurred..."
Geng Yao instinctively wanted to ask the village chief, but when she turned her head, the village chief had already left without looking back, clearly not going to answer their questions.
"Oh no, the village chief is gone, what are we going to do?" How can we complete the mission if we can't even understand the words?
"What's so difficult about this..." Yan Junchi said matter-of-factly. "This is obviously a quest given by an NPC. Just open the quest log—Holy crap, where's the quest log in this game?"
Yan Junchi stared incredulously at the empty game interface, as if he couldn't believe his eyes: "This game is so bad that it doesn't even have a taskbar?!"
Geng Yao, however, had a different opinion: "Isn't this pretty fun? It's so immersive!"
She originally came along because she was worried that her classmates would start fighting in the game, but now she's completely hooked on this unique game!
Yan Junchi scoffed: "Trying to attract attention."
Since entering the game, they haven't encountered any danger, which shows how boring the game is. The only thing they can do to be "different" is to do something "unique".
"Now that we have tasks..." Yan Junchi glanced at the contents of the note, "Let's divide the tasks among ourselves..."
His tone was full of impatience: "Let's hurry up and finish the mission so we can clear the game..." He didn't want to waste any more time on this boring game if it weren't for wanting to see Tian Baiwei make a fool of herself.
"Fang Haoyu and I went to prepare... red cloth and that kind of money."
"Then I'll go prepare that red candle, or rather, a candle..." Gao Yang followed up.
"How about we split the remaining items among the three of us?" Geng Yao asked, looking at Tian Baiwei and Liang Lexuan. The other two nodded in agreement without any objection.
Yan Junchi and Fang Haoyu left first.
"Brother Yan, what do we do next?" Fang Haoyu followed closely behind Yan Junchi.
"Let's just ask any NPC first."
Yan Junchi didn't take the mission seriously at all. This kind of boring mission, which looked like just collecting items, would probably be completed very quickly.
I don't know what's so scary about it... As expected, Tian Baiwei is too useless. She can be scared by an ordinary game without even any monsters.
"Oh, okay..." Fang Haoyu looked around. "But this village is really quiet..."
"We haven't seen much of anyone along the way..."
The surrounding fog was thick and sticky, like a spider web, enveloping the village layer by layer, with the outlines of the houses appearing indistinctly in the almost stagnant fog.
There wasn't a single sign of human habitation.
"You know what, after looking at this village for a while, it really does have a slightly eerie feel to it... hiss..."
"What's the big deal..." Yan Junchi glanced at him, thinking he was making a fuss over nothing: "It's obvious that this game is poorly made and they didn't make that many NPCs."
"This room will do." Yan Junchi looked at the room in front of him and gestured for Fang Haoyu to go up and knock on the door.
Fang Haoyu did as instructed: "Hello, is anyone here?"
The door creaked open... just a crack. A pair of cloudy eyes appeared behind the crack, asking warily, "What is it?"
Fang Haoyu said politely, "We are college students who came to the village to conduct a survey on wedding customs. The village chief gave us a list and asked us to prepare some things."
"I'd like to ask where I can get the 'red cloth' mentioned on this list?"
"So you're looking for red cloth?"
The villagers behind the door, who had previously kept everyone at arm's length, completely changed their attitude the moment they heard about the "red cloth"—
He opened the door, revealing a face full of smiles.
He stepped aside and warmly greeted Fang Haoyu, "I happen to have red cloth in my room!"
"Please come in!"
