Chapter 229 Moody's Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson
Chapter 229 Moody's Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson
As Fred, George, and I sat in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, Professor Alastor Moody stood at the front, his single eye revealing sternness and vigilance.
His voice was deep and powerful, as if he were recounting a dark chapter of history.
"Class, today we're going to talk about the three unforgivable curses," Professor Moody's voice echoed in the classroom.
"These spells are the most evil and cruel of all black magic spells, and using them will result in a life sentence in Azkaban."
He turned to face the blackboard and wrote the names of three spells on it with his wand: Avada Kedavra, Cruciatus Curse, and Exorcism.
“Avada Kedavra, also known as the Killing Curse, is the deadliest of the three unforgivable curses.” Professor Moody’s voice became more serious. “This curse will take the life of the victim directly, without any chance of resistance.”
As he explained, he took a spider from the box he had brought and placed it on the podium to display. Then he waved his wand, and a green beam of light shot from the tip of the wand, striking the spider on the podium.
The lively spider collapsed instantly, turning into a pile of ashes.
“The Crucifixion spell will cause the victim extreme pain, as if their body is being torn apart.” Professor Moody’s voice revealed a hint of anger. “This pain is unbearable and will drive the victim insane.”
He waved his wand again, and another beam of red light shot from the tip of the wand, striking another spider.
The spider began to writhe in agony, emitting a piercing cry.
“Astral projection, this spell controls the victim’s thoughts and actions, turning them into the caster’s puppet.” Professor Moody’s voice turned cold. “This spell is a serious violation of the victim’s free will.”
He swung his wand one last time, and a beam of blue light shot from the tip, striking the third spider.
The spider's eyes became empty and lifeless, and it began to act according to Professor Moody's instructions.
"Students, these spells are extremely dangerous and must never be used lightly," Professor Moody's voice regained its calm. "We learn Defense Against the Dark Arts to protect ourselves and others, not to harm others."
The classroom was silent; the students were all awestruck by Professor Moody's explanation.
They deeply understood the dangers of dark magic and the importance of learning defense against dark magic.
I sat in the front row and just watched calmly. I knew about the three unforgivable spells and could use them skillfully, but I had never practiced them. I had used them in the training room provided, but I had never used them in real life.
Watching a live teaching session for the first time, I was surprisingly indifferent; I didn't feel any excitement or emotion at all.
The one impersonating Alastor Moody was also observing my every move; he initially just wanted to scare these hothouse flowers studying at Hogwarts.
But he didn't expect my performance. He watched the whole thing calmly, which was unlike what a normal young Hogwarts wizard would do.
A glint flashed in his eyes; he was becoming increasingly interested in me.
As I was watching intently, I noticed a gaze fixed on me, so I looked up and met the eyes of Alastor Moody on the podium.
I smiled at him nonchalantly, and Alastor Moody returned the smile when no one else was looking.
"I heard that Mr. Ayers has been selected for the Triwizard Tournament. Would you like to come up and demonstrate the magic I use?" Alastor Moody revealed his ugly smile and gave up the podium for me to demonstrate.
“Professor Moody, if I remember correctly, you just said that using them would result in a life sentence in Azkaban? It seems I can’t demonstrate these spells right now, right? Why don’t you ask Headmaster Dumbledore for permission first?” I said to Alastor Moody with a friendly smile.
“It’s alright. You can’t use these spells, but I can demonstrate the Imperius Curse to the students. Any wizard with a strong will can break free from its control,” Alastor Moody said.
"Won't it be bad for our health to use these three Unforgivable Curses on us?" Before I could say anything, Fred, who was sitting next to me, tugged at my robe.
“Exactly, these are the three Unforgivable Curses. I wonder if they will make us feel unwell.” George also grabbed my other robe, preventing me from leaving them.
“It’s alright, I believe Professor Moody won’t do anything in public, right?” I patted Fred and George’s hands reassuringly, and only stood up after they let go.
“Of course.” Alastor Moody smiled and gave up his position on the podium so that I could stand up.
“Let’s begin.” As I stood on the podium, Alastor Moody cast the Imperius Curse on me before I was even ready.
Just kidding, how could I not be wary of this suspicious Alastor Moody? I was already on guard the moment I stood up.
"Expelliarmus." I, who had been on guard against him, immediately used the podium as cover to dodge his Imperius Curse, and then launched a counterattack, catching him off guard and directly destroying his wand.
Furthermore, I was careful not to show myself, because I figured Alastor Moody, even without a wand, could still use spells.
"Shattered to pieces." Even without a wand, Alastor Moody could still use magic; he cast a spell without a wand that exploded on the podium where I was hiding.
"Armor protection, quick immobilization." I cast two spells at once, first giving myself a shield, then sealing off Alastor Moody's body. He couldn't move as fast as me and was immediately immobilized.
To prevent him from playing any tricks, I cast a "Relaxation" spell on him just in case, and then pressed my wand against his neck.
“Professor Moody, it doesn’t seem right for you to use a spell on your own student for no reason,” I said to Alastor Moody, who was lying on the ground.
"Beautiful! Ayers." Fred clapped and cheered for me when he saw me point my wand at Moody.
"Ayers, awesome!" George cheered and stood up as well.
Our fight was only for a moment; some students hadn't even seen it clearly before they saw that I had already taken care of Professor Moody.
“Mr. Ayers is really amazing, with great reflexes. It would be great for Mr. Ayers to participate in the Triwizard Tournament.” Alastor Moody, lying on the ground, could only talk, since I was holding him down with my wand.
"I'm sorry, Professor Moody, it was just a momentary reflex." I wasn't lying; I had arranged a whole bunch of training programs in the training room at night to develop this reflex arc.
I removed my wand and cast 'Stop Charm' so that Alastor Moody could move his body. He then slowly stood up and took back his wand.
"That concludes the demonstration. Mr. Ayers, please return to your seat." After retrieving his wand, Alastor Moody restored the podium before continuing the lesson.
I simply gave a slight 45-degree bow and then sat back down between Fred and George.
“You all saw Mr. Ayers’ reaction just now, right? I don’t expect every one of you to have Mr. Ayers’ skills, but you should at least be able to protect yourselves,” Alastor Moody said seriously.
I played with the quill in my hand while looking at Alastor Moody standing on the podium.
During the fight, I accidentally got hold of one of his hairs, and when no one was looking, I put it into my backpack.
I never would have guessed! That hair was labeled as being by Barty Crouch Jr.!
Furthermore, they discovered that this young Barty Crouch seemed somewhat familiar, as if they had met him somewhere before.
When I came to my senses, this Alastor Moody seemed to be asking me to explain the spells I had just used to fight the enemy.
"When Professor Moody called me up, I was already prepared to retaliate. I'm the kind of person who plans ahead for everything I do. I wouldn't have used a spell on Professor Moody if he hadn't attacked me," I explained to my classmates as I stood up.
“Of course, after Professor Moody attacked me, my first instinct was to take the wand from his hand, because most of us wizards use wands to cast spells,” I continued. The young wizards in the classroom were all wondering what they would do if they were in that situation.
"After I knocked the professor's wand away, I anticipated that the brilliant professor might cast spells without a wand, so I didn't reveal myself and simultaneously chanted two spells: 'Protective Armor' to protect myself and 'Swift Imprisonment' to bind the professor." As I explained, each young wizard nodded.
"Finally, to prevent the professor from retaliating, I'll use a 'Relaxation' spell on him as a precaution. That's all the spells I just cast." I sat down after analyzing what I had just done.
All the young wizards, including Alastor Moody, joined in the applause.
"That was an excellent explanation, thank you Mr. Ayers for explaining it to us." Alastor Moody tapped his cane forcefully, silencing the entire audience.
Alastor Moody was about to say something when the bell rang, signaling the end of get out of class.
"It seems this is the only way for today. Your homework for today is to write an explanation of the three Unforgivable Curses and Mr. Ayers's combat strategy. Except for the outstanding Mr. Ayers, who can be exempted from homework, please hand in your homework scrolls in at the next class." Alastor Moody had no choice but to assign the homework.
"No~" Fred's first reaction upon hearing about the assignment was to say no.
"That's it then, get out of class dismissed!" Alastor Moody ignored the students' complaints, picked up his things, and limped out of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
"Ayers, I don't want to do my homework~" This time, George leaned on my shoulder first.
“Yeah, Ayers, how come you don’t have any homework to do again?” Fred joined in, patting him on the shoulder.
I first stuffed all my books into my portable backpack, then flicked my wand again, and Fred and George's books obediently went back into their backpacks. I carried the two lizard figures out of the classroom, one in my left hand and one in my right.
The students in the classroom are already used to the three of us traveling together; after all, they've been seeing us like this for years.
I never expected to come out and see Harry's trio arguing with Draco's group.
"It's hard to believe that Harry Potts could be selected as one of the Triwizard Tournament's champions," Draco said, his words dripping with sarcasm.
"So what? You, Draco Malfoy, still didn't have the chance to be selected, did you?" Harry was being pulled by Hermione, but he was also a little angry. What did she mean by not being able to be selected? He got in just fine, didn't he?
"So what if you get selected? You're not as good as Senior Ayers. You'll definitely get beaten to a pulp by the dragon as soon as you step onto the field, haha~ shit-poor thing." Isn't Draco's statement just asking for a beating? He's just stirring up trouble.
"That damned Malfoy." This time, even Ron couldn't tolerate Draco anymore; this was a bit too much.
Then, to everyone's surprise, Alastor Moody, who had just left after class, suddenly made a move and cast a spell on Draco.
Draco hadn't expected a spell to suddenly fly towards him.
Then I was touched by the elven blessing kiss on Draco's body.
The phantom image of my elven race, ingrained in my blood, appeared behind Draco.
Her long, silver hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, shimmering in the soft moonlight.
Each strand of hair looks as if it were woven from the purest silver threads, delicate and smooth.
The pointed ears, slightly upturned, revealed their elven lineage.
Her face was delicate and beautiful, and her skin was as white as alabaster.
His eyes were deep and bright, like stars twinkling in the night sky.
His eyes held a mysterious aura, as if he could see through everything.
She wore a green robe embroidered with exquisite patterns that seemed to be a masterpiece of nature, blending perfectly with her body.
A golden belt was tied around his waist, with a dazzling gem set in it. The gem emitted a mysterious light, as if it contained endless power.
A green seed sprouted and grew into a long, blue rose-shaped magic wand.
Standing in front of Draco to block the spell, a green, transparent light shield appeared, protecting Draco. This wasn't the first time Harry and the others had seen Draco being protected.
But there's no denying that they're always captivated by the elf protecting Draco; she's just so beautiful.
Not only were Harry and his friends mesmerized, but the young wizards surrounding them were also stunned by the scene.
