159 What the fu—
Kacie
This is not what I was expecting. I woke up in a cold bed and got ready this morning. When I came down to the field to train, Clara was nowhere to be found. I heard footsteps behind me and turned to find Jade. Her blonde hair was pulled back in a tight low bun and her violet eyes were eery as she walked towards me. She was wearing cargo pants and a black tank top that she paired with black combat boots. The bangles on her wrists and arms glinted brightly under the sun. She came to a stop five feet away from me. Jade crossed her arms and her gaze trailed down my body before resting on my face.
“Good morning, Jade. Where’s Clara?” I asked looking past her hoping to find Clara somewhere.
Anywhere.
Jade roller her eyes, like actually rolled her eyes. I could already feel my patience being tested. Luckily, I had something to eat otherwise I would have snapped at her. Her violet eyes return from their visit to the back of her head. The sass came off of this girl in waves and I am one hundred percent sure she’s the youngest of the three. She has major youngest child vibes.
“She’s not here, is she?” Jade asked.
I could feel the vein in my temple throbbing. I’m pretty sure I could feel my heartbeat in my vein in my neck. She couldn’t even answer a simple question and I was starting to think that she would be training with me today. I mentally groaned at the thought that training may be canceled.
I’m supposed to be focusing on the witches today. All I needed to do was throw myself into training and getting my sweat on. I had a sneaking suspicion that I would be stuck with her today. A light bulb went off and all of a sudden I didn’t mind the thought of possibly training with her.
“Clarbear was way too hung over to get out of bed this morning,” Jade said.
I tried to ignore the negative thoughts and suspicions that began to fill my mind. With Jake not coming home and Viktor staying out just happened to occur within the same twenty four hour time frame as Clara not being able to show up for training. Something she hasn’t done once since they came to help me with my gift.
Was it really just a coincidence?
“She did have a lot to drink yesterday,” I mumbled.
“I wouldn’t know,” Jade said. There was zero amusement in her voice as she looked around the field. “I was busy but Nyx got a hold of me and told me it would be my turn with you today. Clara needs… rest,” Jade huffed. “Yesterday was supposed to be fun but Clara can’t even hold her liquor I don’t understand why she would drink as much as she did.”
“She’s had a lot on her plate… she wanted a carefree day. I can’t say I bla—”
“Anyway, I’m training with you today. Let’s get started,” Jade said, cutting me off.
Bitch. Yeah, let’s not talk. I’d rather smoke her bratty ass.
Be careful, Kacie. I have a bad feeling about her.
Why? She’s a little brat.
She wouldn’t be so cocky unless she had a reason. Clara has that weird dark magic power… friend.. whatever it is. Nyx can control blood or lifeforms. We don’t know what Jade can do. On top of that she doesn’t like you. I don’t see her going easy on you. Just be careful.
Okay, Mom.
I wanted to laugh. Athena sounded like a mother hen. I could feel her nerves. She was being serious about Jade. I watched her as she stood there with her arms crossed and a bored expression on her face. I wanted nothing more than to wipe that look off her face. I wanted her to take me seriously. I wanted her to see me as someone who could put up a good fight, who could hurt her, who could win. With everything that happened yesterday I needed an outlet. I was hoping to get a good sparring session with Clara. I didn’t share Athena’s apprehension but I’d heed her advice and keep my eyes on Jade.
“Well?” Jade asked. “Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to come at me?”
I didn’t answer her, instead, I took off towards her. Flames surged from my palms and engulfed my hands. She didn’t move as I grew closer. The point was to burn her but I didn’t want to hurt an unarmed person. My thoughts were interrupted when the ground literally disappeared from beneath my feet.
“What the fu—”
I was falling but the ground caught me chest first followed by my face. My eyes watered as my nose slammed against the ground. I gripped a handful of grass before I looked up. Jade was looking down her nose at me with a smirk on her face. I had an idea what happened but I had to be wrong.
I turned my head and looked over my shoulder to figure out what the hell happened. I didn’t trip on air, no, not at all. The ground where I had been running was gone, literally gone. The earth had split, I could see rocks and grass as it fell down, down, down. A scream died in my throat and I looked back to Jade to find her smirk had turned into an entertained smile.
This is her gift.
