158 Shut up
Kacie
You are overthinking all of this, Kacie.
I don’t want to hear it.
You are. You’re letting your anger rule you. You know you’re in the wrong here. You could have fixed this, you could have stopped it before it escalated, but you didn’t!
Shut up, Athena.
Why are you being SO stubborn? You wouldn’t budge the entire time you were talking to Jake. You said some really mean things to him. Why don’t you tell me what’s going on, Kacie?
I don’t know what you’re talking about. I stood my ground, Ath.
Is that what you did? Because from where I’m standing, you were bullying him. Was it something Clara said? Was it…
What?
Was it because of what we saw?
What did we see, Ath?
Whatever it was we saw between Clara and Jake at the club.
…
Are you jealous?
No!
You’re jealous.
I’m not jealous. Jake is… Jake is mine.
Are you sure?
Yes.
Are you? Because the way you just treated him wasn’t like someone you think of as yours. You treated him like a… what do they call it these days? A side piece.
…
So I’m right three times over.
Three times? No. How so?
You’re stubborn, you’re a bully, and you’re jealous.
I’m not a bully, Ath.
Whatever that just was, was bullying. You don’t treat Viktor that way.
He’s just…
What?
He’s just… so… infuriating, Ath. He makes me so angry. His insecurities irritate me. There’s nothing wrong with being irritated.
No, there isn’t, but there is something wrong with purposely hurting him and pushing him away, Kacie.
I said nothing wrong. Whose side are you on anyway?
I’m not on any sides. Speaking of, why did you try and make Viktor choose? You don’t think that was unfair?
Unfair? UNFAIR?! I’m the one who is always on edge. You don’t think it’s unfair being between the two of them?
That’s not cool, Kacie. There’s three of you.
No one is more important than the other.
Is that even true, Ath? Isn’t it clear that Viktor chose Jake? He left me.
You’re overthinking again!
I’m not, Ath!
The two of you aren’t more important than Jake because you’re fated. And Jake isn’t going to leave just because he isn’t fated.
What if he finds his fated?
…
What then, Ath?
Where is this all coming from, Kacie? We’ve never worried about this before. Why are you worrying about it now?
I don’t want him with anyone else.
So why did you push him away? You’re doing the exact opposite of what you’re saying you want, Kacie.
I’m just… I’m angry. Can’t I be angry?
Yes, but you don’t get to be petty. You don’t get to hurt the man we love and you don’t get to push him away.
I know… this isn’t how it was supposed to go.
How was it supposed to go then, Kacie?
I was suppose to go out with the girls and have a good time. Then I was supposed to come home and have a good time with my guys and snuggle until we knocked out. How did it end up like this? How did things get so fucked up? After Jake left earlier, I wanted to come back and make things better. I wanted to make it up to him. I swear I thought I would hug him and apologize for the way I acted. Yet I yelled at him and basically told him I hated him. We’re not perfect but we have never argued like this.
Not like it did, but does that even matter?
Curling up into a ball under the blanket. I stared out the window and waited for sleep to take me. I was tired, my body tired from the day, my mind exhausted from running all day. I needed rest, I needed sleep. I told myself I would go to sleep and deal with all of this in the morning when they were here. I wasn’t going to wait for Jake to come back and I wasn’t going to wait for Viktor.
My mind agreed, but my body didn’t listen. I stayed up late and tossed back and forth in bed. My thoughts were constant. My mind conjured up every negative scenario of what could be happening. Jake could be with someone else, Viktor could be with Jake. They might want to be with each other and not with me.
What would happen then?
When the sun peeked over the horizon, I knew that none of them were coming back tonight. This was my first time sleeping in this bed alone since we chose to be the three of us. They didn’t want to be with me, but I wasn’t going to be a baby about it. If I didn’t focus on something, anything, I would go insane.
The witches were here to train me, and like a life raft in the middle of a raging storm, I grabbed onto that thought. In reality, I had a lot of things on my plate. I needed to figure out how to beat Clara and Jade. Nyx was in a league of her own. I have no clue how I could take her.
Was there anything I could do? I’m sure she has a weakness, but finding out what it is would be near impossible. There was so many things going on. Throwing Jake and Viktor into the mix only made it worse. They should have been my partners, but they weren’t here when I needed them. Yes, I said some mean things, but was that all it took for them to leave?
I closed my eyes and I could feel that my cheeks were wet from my tears. I listened to the birds sing and did everything I could to push out thoughts of the guys. I told myself I was fine and felt walls going up around my heart. That’s what I would do. I would focus on the witches, instead of the way my heart bled from the betrayal.
