My Alpha's Mark

My hands were clammy on my thighs, my fingers clenched tightly, my nails pierced the skin. Not a single thought crossed my mind or Athena’s lips. I was mentally kicking myself, slapping myself, yelling. I can’t believe I was so stupid.

Goddess!

The door slowly opened and I died inside when I saw his face first. He smiled at me with the warmest smile. He’d been gone for only a few days and he comes back to find me in bed with another? And not just any man but his Beta?

Fuck, I was so stupid.

“Viktor?” I whispered. My heart thundered in my chest, my lip was squeezed tightly between my teeth. My mate stood in the doorway, flowers in hand, his eyes on me. He wore dark gray sweatpants, a fitted black long-sleeve, and white sports shoes. His beautiful hair swept to the side out of his eyes, a five o’clock shadow on the bottom half of his face, he dimple in one cheek. He was beautiful. He was mine or I hope he still was after today.

My heart jumped into my throat as his gaze slides over to Jake. Confusion etched into his features followed by pain. His eyes dart back to mine and he searches my face for something; an answer, maybe.

“Viktor?” I repeated. At the sound of my voice, he flinched back at my name on his lips. He doesn’t move from the doorway but I watch as the flowers slowly drop and hang by his side.

“You two seem cozy,” Viktor said. The muscles in his jaw clench and the smile that was on his face a second ago when the door opened is nowhere in sight. My mate’s eyes bore into me, see through me. He sees me and it feels like he’s seen what I’ve done. I’m naked in front of him and I feel… ashamed.

Jake is still by my side. He’s slept with us in this room multiple times in the last few weeks. Being a part of the pack, it isn’t odd for a Beta or Gamma to stay near his Alpha and Luna. It wasn’t a big deal or it wouldn’t have been had Viktor known about it but he didn’t. It was always Viktor and me and Jake nearby. Today, it was Jake and me, plus Viktor. This isn’t how it goes, this is wrong. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. It wouldn’t have been an issue if I had filled him in on it with it while he was gone. He probably would have been fine with it but that’s not what’s happened here.

I did wrong.

I fucked up.

Athena whined.

“Did I ruin us?” I asked Athena. She didn’t answer and continued whining. Her heart was breaking for him and Flash. Our hearts broke together.

“It’s not what it looks like,” Jake said, his voice husky from sleep. Viktor pulled his gaze from me and instead, focused on Jake. His eyes flickered between black and yellow as he stared at his Beta. His eyes lowered down his frame, taking in his lack of a shirt, and his pants before returning to his face.

“And what does it look like, Beta?” Viktor growled. There wasn’t a hint of kindness in his voice and I hated that I’d come in between them. There was no sign of friendship in his eyes as he glared at Jake. Jake remained silent. “Well?” Viktor asked. “What does it look like I just walked in on?”

“It looks like…,” Jake trailed off.

“I’ll tell you what it looks like,” Viktor snarled. “It looks like I just walked in on my Beta fucking my mate.” His eyes glowed as Flash’s anger seeped through their bond. “It looks like you’ve tried to claim what’s mine.”

Jake stumbled back as the Alpha bond demanded his submission. Jake fell to his knees but kept his chin up as he stared at his Alpha. “It looks like while I was gone in search of answers, you took it upon yourself to keep your Luna pleased.” My mate’s eyes stared down at Jake as the hurtful words left his lips. I remained in my seat and held my breath as I waited for his attention to turn to me.

My heart thumped to a treacherous rhythm and I wondered what would happen. “It’s taking everything that I have in me to stop myself from ripping through your throat,” Viktor said, his voice was dangerously low. “You’ve betrayed me, you’ve betrayed our friendship, you’ve betrayed your Alpha.” He inhaled a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

“Leave,” Viktor demanded. I looked up at him in surprise as he stepped out of the doorway. I held my breath as Jake got to his feet. I prayed he didn’t turn to speak to me. I needed him to just leave; walk out the door. He did the complete opposite of what I wanted.

Jake turned and out of the corner of my eye, I knew he was looking down at me. I didn’t know what to do. I kept my eyes on Viktor as he reached out and snagged a lock of my hair between his fingers. A threatening growl rumbled in Viktor’s throat.

“I’ll be nearby if you need me, Luna,” he said, leaning close to me. I couldn’t keep the surprise from my face. My eyebrows lifted before turning to seriousness. I didn’t move, I didn’t take my eyes from Viktor. He dropped my hair and it fell back to my side. He gave me a quick bow before turning back to face Viktor.

I let out a breath of relief as he walked through the doorway. Viktor’s gaze never left me as he closed the door behind him. My life had been going so well, how did I manage to fuck it up in a short period of time? Viktor strode across the room and stopped in front of me. Time ticked achingly slow as I stared up at my mate.
