My Alpha's Mark

28 So?

28 So?

Kacie

“No, I need to be alone right now,” I say. Ignoring the need to melt into his arms and pretend everything is fine, I squirm out of his hold.

Viktor looks down at me with a crazed look in his eye. I watch as his eyes flicker and Flash fights for control. His grip on my arm tightens and just when it looks like he’s about to take complete control, Viktor closes his eyes.

The silence is deafening but when his eyes open again, there’s no hint of Flash. Viktor is in control and I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding. His hand drops and falls to his side.

“I’d never hurt you, Kacie,” he murmurs.

“He’s already done that though, hasn’t he, Kacie?” Athena says.

I wrap my arms around me protectively. Alpha Ken had hurt me in ways I didn’t know were possible. I didn’t have hopes of finding my mate, I didn’t know I’d be blessed by the Goddess. let me

Standing in front of me is the man the Moon Goddess herself made for me. I didn’t know what to do or how to feel about Clara. If my mate has another mate, did the Moon Goddess choose two mates for him? Or did she give him two so he could choose?

“Little mate,” Viktor murmurs, and I watch as he reaches out to me. A knock on the door makes me jump and Viktor freezes. His eyes shifting between me and the door before he runs his hand through his hair.

“It’s me,” Clara’s voice calls from the other side of the door. My eyes drop to the floor as I avoid his gaze. “I’ve seen this already and I know it’s going to be awkward as hell…”

“So… let’s just get this over with,” she says and I totally agree.

When Viktor doesn’t move to open the door I take a deep breath, lift my chin and walk over to the door. What I see when I open the door, takes my breath away. Is she ever NOT pretty?

A short sleeve black dress hugged at her curves, a sharp v neck dipped low revealing more than I’d like. The dress dropped halfway down her thighs and I realized she had Wicca tattoos curling up her legs where they disappeared underneath the black material.

I felt a splash of cold water douse out the heat I was feeling not even a few minutes before. I tried not to look down at my body as we stood staring at each other and I fought against the urge to cower.

When I drag my eyes back up I notice her earrings aren’t glowing as brightly as they did the night before. We lock eyes and the knowing look she gives me has me wondering if she somehow knows how I’m feeling.

“Hi Clara,” I say. The crack in my voice betrays how I’m feeling but I’m not going to break down. This trial has only just begun.

“Hi, Kacie,” she says. I look to Viktor and he’s got his eyes on me, he hasn’t so much as glanced in her direction and I feel a small sense of relief. I ignore the feeling of relief, they’re going out today and I won’t ask where or what they’re doing.

“You said it could start tomorrow,” she says, “And here I am.”

Clara’s eyes look over to Viktor and I feel myself dying inside. She takes in his shorts, chiseled abs, and ruffled morning hair. And I just know that she sees what I see, sex on a stick.

The wolf in me growls and I stifle a giggle when the thought of jumping at her, teeth bared flashes through my mind.

“I hate this,” Athena roars. She’s mentally pacing and it brings me back to why she’s here and it pulls me back into that dark abyss. I can feel her anxiety, nervousness, anger, and sadness on top of my own feelings and that warmth spreads through my body again threatening to burn everything.

“Well this is awkward,” a voice calls from behind Clara. A displeased Jamie towers over Clara and I feel the intensity from the heat lessen and shrink away. Clara makes room for her to pass and she walks over to me and stands by my side and faces her with me.

She’s struggling but she still has time to check on me and support me. My heart warms as I feel comforted by her presence. Crossing her arms she looks back and forth between Clara and Viktor.

“So?” Jamie asks, a furrow in her brow evident as her not-so-subtly glares at her. “What’s the plan for this little rendezvous?” Jamie asks as she points from Viktor to Clara.

“We’re just going to talk,” Viktor says, his eyes still on me. “Nothing else is going to happen,” he says as he steps forward and lifts his fingers to my chin. I don’t react as he tries to look into my eyes. Leaning down he presses his lips to mine, “I’d prefer if we could do this together.”

“What person in their right mind would want to be the third wheel to their mate’s potential second mate?” Jamie says, and her expression shows just how ludicrous she thought this whole situation was.

Viktor shot her a glare before meeting my eyes again. “This was your idea,” he says sadly. “If it weren’t for what you proposed, I wouldn’t do any of this without you.”

I shake my head. I have nothing to say right now. I just want him to go.

“We should get going,” Clara says.

She turns on her heel and Jamie sticks her tongue out at her as she walks out of the door. Clara turns around and looks at Viktor.

“You coming?” She asks.

Viktor grunts.

He wraps me up in a big hug and I still. I don’t hug him back. Hurt flashes in Clara’s eyes but when Viktor pulls away and turns to her, it’s gone.

The door closes behind them and I’m left alone with my best friend.
