Chapter 94: Don't Take Him To Sunshine City
Lucas Anderson paused as he was about to open his car door, giving Tony a sidelong glance as he replied, "It has nothing to do with you; it is between my wife and me." Without another word, he opened the door and drove off.
Tony seethed with anger as he watched the car speed away. His clenched jaws, bulging forehead veins, and tightly clenched fists betrayed his fury. "Bastard!" he roared, unleashing his rage on a nearby pillar with a powerful punch that sent debris dancing to the floor.
His eyes blazed with anger, but Tony knew better than to provoke Lucas Anderson again. The man's combat skills were terrifying, a fact Tony had learned firsthand during their confrontation at the Singer mansion.
He isn't masochist to get into fight again with him.
As Tony stood there, his phone beeped, signaling a new message from Andrea.
Andrea had just sent a text message when her phone rang. The caller was Agatha, she immediately answered. “Andrea, I’ll be flying straight to Sunshine City instead of meeting you all in Vegas,” Agatha's voice conveyed through the speaker.
Andrea went silent, puzzled. Why would Agatha head directly to Sunshine City when everyone was is in Vegas?
“Andrea, are you there?” Agatha's voice broke through her thoughts.
“Yes,” Andrea replied, her tone clipped.
Rubbing the space between her eyebrows, Andrea recalled the one event she perpetually seemed to overlook: her father’s memorial anniversary.
“We’re heading to Sunshine City in a few days. It’s okay if you meet us there; we’ll wait for you,” Andrea assured her.
Following a brief conversation about Agatha’s work in North America, they ended the call.
At the end of her workday, Andrea left her office and drove to meet Tony as arranged.
Tony was already there, waiting in the private room when she arrived. They sat in silence, the weight of unspoken words heavy in the air.
To Andrea, Tony had always been like an older brother, and she was acutely aware of his concerns and anxieties. This made broaching the sensitive topic even harder.
Finally, Andrea mustered the courage to speak. “You should go on vacation, Tony. Sweden or Spain might do you good.”
Looking up, Tony’s face was a mask of disappointment. “You don’t believe me?” he asked tentatively.
“Tony, the stress of investigating the organization has got to you. You need a break, and I’ll be okay,” Andrea reassured him.
Pain flashed across Tony’s face as his fists clenched. “Believe me, Andrea, he’s not Valentine Anderson. He admitted it himself. he’s his twin, hi—”
Interrupting him, Andrea’s impatience was clear. “Tony, no matter who he is, he’s still my husband. You should leave Vegas as soon as you can.”
Rising to leave, Andrea was stopped by Tony’s urgent words. “Don’t take him to Sunshine City. He might be the one the organization sent. They could be after something your father had taken from them.”
Andrea stood only for a brief moment, before silently walking away. As she drove home, his words echoed in her mind. Snow began to fall midway through her journey, and by the time she reached the mansion, she was feeling the chill, particularly in her palms without gloves.
"Ma'am Andrea," Housekeeper Win greeted as Andrea stepped into the living room.
"Mommy!" Pete's joyful shout filled the space, and he ran to her, enveloping her in a warm hug.
Lucas Anderson merely glanced at her before walking away without a word.
"Mom, come see what I made!" Pete tugged at her hand eagerly, leading her toward his latest painting.
It was a bit chaotic, yet it showed improvement over his previous attempts. Andrea stroked his hair and praised, "My little one is the greatest artist there is."
Pete looked up at her with wide, innocent eyes. "Mommy, daddy says I'm better at painting than he is. Is that true?"
Andrea clicked her tongue. Her husband was the only man she knew who could deliver such flattering falsehoods with utter sincerity.
She ruffled Pete's hair, finding herself unable to choose between her son and her husband, both equally dear to her.
"Drink this before you catch a cold," suddenly came Lucas Anderson's voice.
Startled, Andrea looked up. She had seen Lucas leave the room earlier and had not expected him to return, especially with a hot cup of tea in hand for her.
The tea might have been bland, but coming from him, it tasted unexpectedly sweet.
"You should dress warmly; it's winter after all. Don't get sick," Lucas advised with an earnest tenderness in his voice.
Seeing his smile, Andrea felt her earlier stress and suspicions melt away.
After a warm family dinner, Andrea made a decision. "Lucas, two days from now is the anniversary of my father's memorial. I'm planning to go back to Sunshine City to visit his grave. Would you come with me?" She studied his face intently for his reaction.
"I'll go with you," Lucas replied instantly, his smile unwavering.
A wave of relief washed over Andrea.
Suddenly, Lucas stood up and headed for the door. "Where are you going?" Andrea asked.
"To my art collection room," he said over his shoulder, then left the room.
Andrea wanted to say something more but held back, watching as he disappeared behind the door.
Once inside his art collection room, Lucas found the masked man already waiting for him in the dark room.
"Father has arrived in the country. He's ready to take action if you don't get the code," the masked man informed him.
With a sneer, Lucas responded, "The old man can't sit still. He trusts no one, not even his own shadow."
