Chapter 90: I Want You To Make Love To Me
Chapter 90: I Want You To Make Love To Me
Andrea's slap was just the beginning; her words followed, sharp and unyielding. "Jack Smith, you are a man who stoops to gossip, a disgrace to the Smith family. Even though they have come to terms with their loss, I will not stand by while you insult my husband."
Her fierce gaze then landed on the Kent family patriarch. "Old Kent, if this invitation was merely a setup for insults from societal miscreants, consider this our departure," Andrea declared, her anger palpable.
Jack Smith's face flushed with a mix of anger and jealousy. He couldn't fathom what made Lucas Anderson better than him—after all, Lucas lacked the authoritative presence that he believed a husband should have.
Fuming, Jack stepped up to Andrea, his hand raised to strike back. He was accustomed to bullying women; the shock of being slapped was foreign to him.
But before his hand could connect with Andrea, another hand caught it in a vice-like grip. A chilling sound of cracking bones echoed, eliciting gasps of shock and fear from everyone.
Jack Smith screamed in agony, looking at Lucas Anderson in terror. Lucas only offered a cool smile before releasing his grip.
Andrea was stunned. She hadn't expected Lucas, who had remained quiet throughout the ordeal, to intervene so decisively. The tension in the air was suffocating, and she felt the urgent need to leave. "Let's go, Val," she said, taking Lucas's hand.
Lucas nodded, and together they exited the hall, leaving a stunned silence in their wake.
Jack Smith's wails continued behind them; his face was a mess of tears and snot, an image of utter misery. This was the first time he had ever experienced real pain.
Andrea didn't linger to witness the pathetic scene. Despite being quiet her mind was racing with questions. The way Lucas had effortlessly broken Jack's arm—it was the action of someone skilled, someone who had trained rigorously over time.
"When did you learn to fight like that?" Andrea's curiosity broke through her quiet facade the moment they settled into the car.
Memories of Valentine Anderson always being on the losing end of brawls, especially against the thugs from the slums who seemed to constantly seek trouble, flashed in her mind. Valentine Anderson would valiantly step in whenever she is being bullied only to be left bruised and battered.
"A few years back," Lucas Anderson replied nonchalantly, turning the key in the ignition.
The drive home was steeped in silence, with Andrea sulking in her seat, unsatisfied with Lucas's terse explanation.
Upon arriving home, it was late, and Housekeeper Win had already prepared dinner after receiving a message from Andrea about their impending arrival.
"Miss Andrea, Pete has been put to bed, and your dinner is served in the dining room," Housekeeper Win informed them as they entered.
"Thank you so much, Win," Andrea said, her voice polite but distant, before she ascended the stairs to change.
Housekeeper Win shot Lucas Anderson a questioning glance; they had left earlier as a cheerful couple, so why did Andrea seem so vexed now?
Lucas Anderson merely shrugged, genuinely unaware of any wrongdoing on his part.
"Mood swings," he murmured to himself, whether or not Housekeeper Win grasped his meaning was of little concern to him as he made his way up the stairs.
A few minutes after they moved to the dining table for dinner, Andrea had just finished her meal when her phone began to ring. She glanced at the screen and saw that it was a call from her assistant, Rita.
As soon as Andrea answered, Rita's voice, trembling with excitement, burst through the phone's speaker. "Ma'am Andrea, the Mayor of Winchester just called. He's agreed to let us proceed with the projects, and he's promised full support without any further interference."
Andrea's face lit up with surprise. She looked across the table at Lucas Anderson, who was eating with an air of grace. She remembered his confident words after their confrontation with the Mayor and wondered how he had managed to effect such a change in the Mayor's stance.
Lucas felt Andrea's gaze on him and looked up to meet her eyes, his expression questioning.
"Ma'am Andrea, the Mayor is requesting a call with you. Should I patch him through?" Rita's voice interrupted, bringing Andrea back to the moment.
"Yes, please," Andrea replied tersely, her curiosity about the Mayor's sudden change of heart growing.
When Rita connected the call, Mayor Winchester's voice, laced with nervousness and anxiety, came through the speaker. "Mrs. Anderson Singers, I promise to be a good Mayor and to support Singers Group from now on. Please, can you tell them to keep my secrets?"
Andrea was puzzled. She had no idea what the Mayor was referring to. "Mayor Taylor, I don't understand what you're talking about. What secrets?"
On the other end, Mayor Taylor was both confused and frightened. After Andrea and Lucas had left him, he had received documents filled with evidence of his darkest secrets, complete with photographs and videos. Any one of these could destroy his political career.
He had never faced such a threat before, not until he had crossed paths with Andrea Singers. Who else could be behind it but her?
"Mrs. Andrea Singers, I have followed the instructions. I will hang up now and not disturb your evening further. Enjoy your night," Mayor Taylor said, now sounding as meek as a kitten, a stark contrast to the arrogance he had displayed just a few hours earlier.
Before Andrea could process his words, the call was abruptly ended. She looked up to see that Lucas had left the dining room during the call.
Driven by her growing curiosity, Andrea quickly went to her study and turned on her computer. As she connected to the internet, an onslaught of notifications flooded her screen:
