Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Cassandra's POV
I straddled the man beneath me, my fingers tangled in his hair as our lips moved hungrily against each other’s.
The room was dimly lit, casting shadows across the walls as our bodies pressed together.
His hands roamed my back, gripping my waist tightly, pulling me down against him.
"Are you sure no one will come in again?" he murmured against my lips, his breath hot against my skin.
I smirked, tilting his chin up to meet my gaze. "No one dares to enter my chambers without permission," I whispered, pressing my lips back onto his.
But just as I deepened the kiss, the door burst open with a loud bang. I gasped, yanking away from the man as my father, the Alpha, stormed into the room.
His face was set in a deep scowl, his piercing gaze landing on me and then shifting to the half-naked man beneath me.
"Get out," I hissed at my lover, quickly pulling a sheet around myself. The man scrambled out of bed, gathering his clothes in a rush before slipping out the side door.
My father’s jaw was clenched, his nostrils flaring. He took a slow, measured step forward. "What the hell is going on here, Cassandra?" His voice was low, dangerous.
I squared my shoulders, refusing to shrink under his scrutiny. "Nothing you need to concern yourself with, Father."
He let out a dark chuckle, shaking his head. "I return from a short trip to town, and what do I find? My Pack in chaos. Do you know what they're saying?"
I crossed my arms, feigning indifference. "I don't pay attention to gossip."
His eyes darkened. "There was a rogue attack, Cassandra."
I tilted my head, pretending to be shocked. "A rogue attack? Here? But everything seems fine to me."
His fists clenched at his sides. "Do not lie to me."
Silence stretched between us, the weight of his disappointment pressing heavily in the air. Then, his gaze flickered back toward the door. "Who was that man?"
I swallowed hard, refusing to meet his eyes. "No one important."
He exhaled sharply through his nose. "You know the rules. If you do not shift by the next full moon, there will be consequences."
I clenched my jaw, biting back the sharp retort on my tongue. I knew the consequences all too well, but I wasn't about to let him control me. Not anymore.
Just then, a loud knock echoed through the chamber. Annoyed, I turned and yanked the door open. Two guards stood there, breathing heavily, their faces pale with urgency.
"What is it?" I snapped.
One of them swallowed hard before speaking. "Adolphus… he escaped."
A gasp left my lips, my mind racing as I gripped the doorframe tightly. How could he have escaped? My plan had been foolproof. The guards had been handpicked, the cell heavily guarded.
My father’s gaze sharpened. "You imprisoned Adolphus?"
I exhaled, forcing a smirk. "For questioning. He was acting suspicious."
My father studied me for a long moment, then turned to the guards. "Find him. Now."
As the guards hurried off, I slammed the door shut and turned to face my father, my heart pounding.
"What are you hiding, Cassandra?" he asked, his voice eerily calm.
I lifted my chin. "Nothing you need to worry about."
But as his eyes bore into mine, I had a sinking feeling that my time was running out. And if Adolphus was free, it meant trouble was coming.
