Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Adolphus’s POV
The room spun violently as I stumbled toward the exit, my vision blurring at the edges.
My body felt sluggish, weighed down by an unnatural heat coursing through my veins. I gritted my teeth, trying to shake off the dizziness, my fists clenched so tightly my nails dug into my palms.
Cassandra.
She had drugged me.
The realization sent a fresh wave of fury crashing through me.
“Leaving so soon, Adolphus?”
Her voice slithered through the air, silky and laced with amusement.
I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. Every second spent in this room was a second too long.
"You already claimed me, Adolphus. We are fated to be together."
I froze.
Slowly, I turned, my eyes narrowing.
Cassandra stood with her arms folded, her lips curved in a smug, knowing, confident smile.
I forced my voice to remain steady despite the haze clouding my mind. “You are not my mate. Even if your father force me to take you as my mate, I won’t do it because I already have one.”
Her smile widened. “Oh, Adolphus. You’re so predictable. ”
I scowled. “What do you mean?”
She stepped closer, the scent of her perfume sickly sweet, making my stomach churn.
“If you don’t want to be mine, then fine. I won’t force you,” she purred. “But if you refuse, then someone else will suffer.”
A chill crept down my spine. I knew exactly who she meant before she even said it.
“Katrina.”
Cassandra’s eyes gleamed.
“With just a single instruction, I can make sure the Omega society makes her life unbearable. She’s already nothing now, isn’t she?” Her voice was honeyed poison, every word dripping with venom. “Imagine how much worse it could get. Imagine what happens when a bunch of desperate, mistreated wolves take out their anger on the former Gamma.”
My fists clenched. My entire body coiled with rage, but the drug was still in my system, making my muscles weak, making my balance unsteady.
I couldn’t fight her. Not like this.
“Don’t you dare,” I growled, my voice laced with warning.
She simply laughed.
“Oh, but I will if you keep rejecting me.” She tilted her head, eyes burning with a twisted kind of satisfaction. “You’re smart, Adolphus. You know how this will go. If you walk out that door without agreeing to my terms, Katrina will pay the price.”
I didn’t reply. I turned on my heel and stormed out. The cold air outside hit me like a slap. I sucked in a deep breath, hoping it would clear the fog in my head.
I needed to get to Katrina.
I took a step forward just as a mocking voice sliced through the night. “Well, well, look who it is. The bastard with no background.”
I stopped.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze.
Nicholas.
He stood with his usual pack of followers, all of them grinning like hyenas, their eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. I had never heard anyone in this Pack mention my origins before.
No one, except Katrina.
And yet, here Nicholas was, throwing it in my face like an open wound, like a weapon meant to tear me apart.
He stepped forward, arms crossed. “You’ve been pretending for so long, haven’t you, Adolphus? Like you belong here. Like you’re actually one of us.” He smirked. “But you’re not.”
The others chuckled.
I exhaled sharply, trying to control the rage simmering beneath my skin.
I had always known that I wasn’t like them. That I had no family name to protect me. That my presence in this Pack was tolerated, but never truly accepted.
But hearing it said out loud, hearing it from him, it did something to me. It made my blood boil.
I took a step forward, my fists twitching at my sides. “Say that again.”
Nicholas’s grin widened. “Or what, bastard?” He took another step closer, lowering his voice mockingly. “You don’t even know who your real parents are, do you? You’re nothing. A nobody. Just some stray the Pack took in.”
The laughter around us grew louder. My vision blurred, not just from the drug, but from pure, unfiltered rage.
I lunged.
Or, at least, I tried.
But my body was still too sluggish, my movements delayed, uncoordinated because of the drug.
Nicholas saw it and he took full advantage. His fist slammed into my face. Pain exploded through my skull, white-hot and blinding. I staggered back, my knees nearly buckling.
The laughter rang in my ears again, louder, sharper, filled with mockery.
Nicholas leaned in close.
“Look at you,” he sneered. “Pathetic.”
I breathed heavily, swallowing the metallic taste of blood in my mouth. I wanted to kill him, to rip him apart. But I couldn’t, not like this.
Nicholas clapped me on the shoulder like I was an old friend. “See you around, Beta.” His tone was mocking as he and his pack strolled off, leaving me standing there.
Rage burned inside me, hotter than ever as I forced myself to move. I had to find Katrina.
I dragged myself toward her room, my body still aching, my mind a jumbled mess of anger, betrayal, and desperation.
But when I arrived, I saw a servant standing outside her door.
My stomach twisted. I stepped forward. “Where is Katrina?”
The servant hesitated, avoiding my gaze. Panic shot through me. “Where is she?” I demanded.
The servant finally looked up, eyes filled with nervousness. “Beta…This is not her chamber anymore..”
My breath caught in my throat. Where did they bring her?
I stepped closer. “Tell me where she is.”
The servant swallowed hard. “In the Omega chambers.”
My entire body went cold.
