Chapter 609: Stop Harassing Me
Chapter 609: Stop Harassing Me
After seeing the news online, Bianca headed to Sophia’s house. Sophia had been overseas filming, but she’d sent her details and performance videos to the competition committee and secured a spot in the finals. She had just gotten back today, and they’d arranged to meet at home.
“Who’s there?” Elaine’s gentle voice called from inside.
“It’s me, Bianca. Is your mom back?”
The moment she heard her, Elaine swung the door open and ran straight into Bianca’s arms.
“Mom’s not home yet. Bianca, will you play with me for a while? You haven’t come over in so long. Did you forget about me?”
“How could I forget? I’ve just been so busy lately. But now that I finally have some free time, I came straight here to see you,” Bianca said with a smile.
On her way over, she’d tried calling Sophia several times, but there’d been no answer. By now, Sophia should have already landed. So why couldn’t she be reached?
An hour went by with still no response. Growing anxious, Bianca decided to call Dave.
“Dave, I’m with Elaine, but I can’t get in touch with Sophia. Could you help me find her? I’m starting to get worried…”
Before she could finish, Sophia’s voice came from behind her.
What was going on? Was Sophia with Dave?
“Don’t worry. They’re here with me.”
“They?” Bianca asked, startled.
Dave glanced toward the sofa in front of him. One person sat with their fists clenched tight, nervousness written all over their face. The other turned her head away, saying nothing.
“Michael and Sophia,” Dave replied.
“What?” Bianca was stunned.
“I’ll let Sophia explain it to you herself when she gets back,” Dave said.
Michael’s flight landed in Edenfield earlier today, and Dave had sent his driver to pick him up early in the morning.
But things got complicated fast.
At the airport, Michael ran into Sophia. What began as an awkward meeting quickly turned into a heated argument. The driver, unsure what to do, didn’t dare step in and called Dave instead.
Dave told him to wait until they were done. He had an important meeting with Michael later, and if it fell through, the driver could just bring them both in.
“Since they haven’t argued enough, let them keep going in the car,” Dave said with a faint smile.
The driver, torn between his job and the uncomfortable scene, reluctantly walked over.
Scratching his head, he said, “Mr. Hayes, please… don’t make this hard for me. Why don’t you and Miss Johnson just get in the car together?”
But Michael didn’t even seem to hear him. His eyes stayed fixed on Sophia as he tried to explain. “Sophia, you’ve got it all wrong! Please, just listen to me—”
Sophia crossed her arms wearing a cold expression. “Michael Hayes, could you stop talking to me like we’re friends? Do I even know you?”
Their argument quickly drew a small crowd, and even airport security came over. The tension was rising fast.
“I’m not following you! It’s just a coincidence,” Michael said, his voice tight with anxiety. “Why don’t you get in the car first? I’ll explain once we’re inside.”
The driver, feeling the tension rise, quickly stepped in. “Yes, Miss Johnson, please get in the car. I can’t finish my job if we don’t get moving.”
More people began to gather, and a few started whispering.
“Wait, isn’t that Sophia Johnson, the best actress?” someone said.
“I think so. Looks like this guy’s been following her with bad intentions,” another murmured.
“I just stood there, letting their words sink in. I couldn’t believe it, this was the moment, but I never thought the woman would be Sophia! That guy’s gone too far; he needs to be taught a lesson!”
“Exactly. Sophia is my goddess. How dare he even think about taking her?”
“Wait, are you sure that’s Sophia? She doesn’t look like her to me.”
The crowd’s voices carried easily to Sophia, but she was prepared. Her wide-brimmed hat and oversized sunglasses made a perfect disguise. Unless someone knew her well, they wouldn’t be able to tell.
Still, the murmurs were getting louder, and doubt was spreading. The risk of being recognized was growing by the second, and it wouldn’t be long before the situation spiraled out of control.
Michael’s eyes stayed on Sophia. “If you’re not getting in, I’m not either,” he said firmly.
The driver’s stomach dropped. He hadn’t expected things to blow up like this. He glanced at Sophia, desperate.
“Miss Johnson, please… just get in the car. Otherwise, I’ll have a lot to answer for with Mr. Evans.”
His voice shook with urgency. What should’ve been a quick job had turned into a mess.
It didn’t really matter to Sophia whether Michael got in or not, but with the tension building, she knew she had to stop it before it went any further. She slipped into the car, unwilling but resigned. If she kept this up, someone was bound to recognize her. For the driver’s sake, she chose to let it go.
Michael got in right after her. Worried they might get stuck any longer, the driver stepped on the gas and pulled away from the airport.
“That’s it? It’s over already?” someone in the crowd complained.
“Told you it was just an argument. What a waste of time,” another muttered.
Inside the car, Sophia’s mood was far from forgiving. If it weren’t for her public image, she wouldn’t have agreed to get in at all. But now that she was here, she intended to make things clear.
“Sophia…”
Michael opened his mouth to speak, but she cut him off, her voice sharp. “Since you insist on bothering me, I’ll have to ask Mr. Evans to step in and decide this.”
He froze for a moment, then forced himself to stay composed. There was a trace of sadness in his eyes; he knew nothing he said now would change her mind.
Across town, Dave was buried in paperwork when his office door creaked open. Sophia walked in, her expression cold enough to chill the room. Michael followed behind, looking frustrated, like a man who’d just lost a fight he never wanted.
“Welcome, Miss Johnson,” Dave said with a lazy smile, standing to greet her. He didn’t look the least bit surprised to see her stride in with that fierce look.
Some of the tension drained from Sophia. In front of Dave, it was hard to hold onto her anger. She drew in a breath and said, calmer now, “Mr. Evans, I’m sorry for barging in like this, but I’ve had enough.”
Dave’s eyes shifted to Michael, a silent question lingering on it. “What’s going on, Sophia?”
She didn’t hesitate. Her frustration came spilling out. “Could you please ask Mr. Hayes to stop harassing me?”
