Chapter 577: Ten Million Dollars
Chapter 577: Ten Million Dollars
Peter was shocked. He had thought apologizing would change things. He believed she’d forgive him if he showed regret. Now, he saw how wrong he was. His actions weren’t about her. They were about easing his own guilt.
Peter let out a sad laugh. “You’re right. I have no reason to ask for your forgiveness. I don’t deserve it. This is my punishment.”
Bianca stared at Peter for a long time, her face showing no emotion. She couldn’t remember any happy moments with him. Those memories were already gone.
But she wasn’t cold. She felt a small ache in her chest, seeing what was left of their broken relationship. Peter had destroyed it himself. All that was left now was regret.
“I know it’s hard for me to forgive you. But stop hurting yourself like this. And don’t kneel to me again.”
Peter didn’t even know who he was trying to prove something to. Maybe it was God. Maybe it was just himself. He had confessed everything to Bianca. If he didn’t, he probably wouldn’t be able to live with himself.
“Okay.” Peter stood up slowly. His legs were numb from kneeling for so long. He almost stumbled, but Bianca didn’t reach out to help him. That told him everything.
“Bianca, this will be the last time I come to you. I won’t bother you again.” Peter paused for a moment, his expression shifting like he remembered something. He hesitated, then spoke, forcing the words out. “Please… give your mom, Madison, a message for me.”
He wiped his tears with his sleeve.
Bianca’s eyes narrowed. “What message?”
Peter’s lips shook. “Tell her… she’s the only woman I’ve ever truly loved.”
Hearing that, Bianca felt her heart tremble. She never knew. Peter’s love for her mother had been real. She was the only one he had ever truly cared about.
Bianca almost laughed at how ironic it all was. Stacey and Peter had only ever used each other. In the end, Peter lost the woman he loved and the one who had loved him.
But Bianca wasn’t going to repeat his mistakes. She looked at him and said calmly, “Okay. I’ll tell her.”
Hearing that, Peter didn’t say anything else. He turned to leave.
“Wait,” Bianca said as he reached the door. She walked over and slipped a bank card into his hand.
“What’s this?” Peter asked, confused. He hadn’t expected it.
“No matter what happened, you raised me,” Bianca said. “There’s not a lot on that card, but it’s enough for you to live comfortably.”
Her voice was soft, but to Peter, her words felt heavy.
When Bianca heard from the receptionist that Peter had come to see her, she made up her mind. She decided to give him a large sum. To her, money was just a tool. It was nothing more than numbers.
The card held ten million dollars. It was her last gesture as his daughter.
“I…” Peter’s voice cracked. He tried to hold back his emotions. He didn’t know how much money was on the card. All he felt was that someone still cared.
“Take it. The password is your birthday,” Bianca said.
Peter was taken aback. He didn’t expect her to remember that. The fact that she did touch him more than he could say. For a moment, he felt something warm, something he hadn’t felt in years. But he knew the chance for a birthday celebration as a family was gone. He had ruined it himself. That regret stayed with him, and he knew it always would.
After Peter left, Bianca picked up her phone. Her fingers hesitated for a moment, then she dialed Madison’s number.
Madison answered in her usual playful tone. “What’s up? I thought you’d be busy with work. Missing your mom, are you?” Her teasing voice brought a bit of comfort to Bianca.
“Yes, I miss you,” Bianca said with a smile. She really did miss her mother after all those years.
The distance between them had disappeared long ago, unlike with Peter. Madison was still her family. Her life had turned out very different from Peter’s because of her choices.
“I miss you, too. Did something happen again?” Madison asked. “And how are things going with Mr. Evans? I’m still waiting for your wedding, you know.”
Even though she tried to sound relaxed, Madison couldn’t hide her worry.
“It’s not happening anytime soon. At least six months away,” Bianca said. “Dave’s been so busy lately. I barely see him.”
Bianca found it funny that after their last family dinner with Dave, not just her mom but even Leonel had started pushing her to marry him. Leonel used to dislike Dave, but now he had completely changed his attitude. Whenever Bianca got tired of Leonel pressuring her, she would joke that if he wanted it so badly, he should marry Dave himself. That always ended the conversation.
“That’s not right. No matter how busy Dave is, he should still make time for you,” Madison said.
“Peter came to my office earlier,” Bianca said, changing the subject. It wasn’t just that Dave hadn’t been visiting her. She was also too busy to meet him. They had both agreed to see each other on the weekend.
“Peter? Why did he come? Did he cause trouble for you? Don’t worry. I’m coming over right now.”
Madison’s anger flared up right away. She didn’t need to think twice. She was sure Stacey had something to do with it. But she had no idea Stacey had already lost her mind.
“No need. He’s already gone,” Bianca said calmly, glancing at the papers Dave had sent her the day before. She had a feeling Peter would come. She just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.
“He asked me to give you a message. He said…”
“I don’t care what he said!” Madison snapped, cutting her off.
Bianca finished quietly, “He said you’re the only woman he ever truly loved.”
When Bianca said those words, Madison stayed silent on the other end of the call. After a long pause, her voice finally came, soft and calm. “It’s all in the past.”
Yes, it was over. All the pain and struggles were behind them now. Their lives had moved on.
After hanging up, Madison looked at herself in the mirror. She gave a small smile and shrugged. She didn’t try to contact Peter. But she knew his words had been honest.
Meanwhile, Peter went to the bank. When he checked the balance on the card, he rubbed his eyes, thinking he was seeing things.
“Ten… ten million dollars?!”
