Accidentally Slept With The Ruthless Billionaire

Chapter 563: Brady Jumped Off The Building

Chapter 563: Brady Jumped Off The Building

“Blake, always remember, your mother and I will love you forever… I’m leaving the rest to you…”

Blake’s voice rose, panic setting in. “Dad? What are you talking about? Can you hear me? Hello? Hello…”

But all he heard next was a busy tone. The call had ended.

A loud thud rang out, followed by a woman’s scream. “Ah! Someone jumped off the building…”

Just as Bianca and Dave stepped out of Lucas’s hospital room, they saw a body falling from above. It hit the tiled floor hard. The tiles cracked, and blood began to spread.

Dave quickly covered Bianca’s eyes, but it was too late.

She had already seen the body.

It was Brady.

The sudden death of the Lawson Group’s head, falling from a building, quickly became the biggest news in Edenfield. People who didn’t know what really happened guessed that Brady jumped because he was heartbroken over his wife.

But to Dave, it was simple payback. Brady got what he deserved.

Still, the public saw him as a devoted husband.

Three days passed.

Word spread among Edenfield’s elite that Triumph Capital had taken over the Lawson Group. To some, this seemed like the true reason behind the deaths of both Brady and his wife.

Of course, the winners always get to tell the story. The ones who lose are quickly forgotten. Brady’s death would soon become nothing more than idle chatter for people during their free time. No one would really care except for a few people at Lawson Group, and Blake, who was far away in another country.

In a quiet hospital room overseas,

Blake sat still in his wheelchair, staring out the window. His fists were clenched, and he couldn’t accept it. Both his parents were dead from falling off a building. Everyone believed it was suicide, but he knew the real killer was still out there, living freely.

Names burned in his mind: Evans Group. Dave Evans. Triumph Capital.

Before Brady died, he had told Blake the truth about his mother’s death. After hearing it, something in Blake changed. He stopped speaking as much. His face grew darker and he became colder.

"Doctor, how much longer until I can move like a normal person?" Blake asked this again and again. It was the question he repeated most. His sheer willpower pushed him through the pain of endless rehab, day and night.

The doctor could only shake his head in amazement. "Mr. Lawson, you’re the most determined patient I’ve ever treated. At this rate, I believe you’ll walk out of here on your own soon."

While Blake pushed through recovery, Phoenix Alliance Group’s stock price shot up. It hit the daily limit for three days straight. News of Brady’s death was quickly drowned out. The company’s old scandals were forgotten. In their place came glowing praise.

Financial experts and media outlets all pointed to Dave, the man behind Phoenix Alliance Group as one of the greatest business minds of the century. Investors were thrilled, hoping for even more profit.

But not everyone was celebrating.

Today was the funeral of Dave’s aunt, Rachel Evans. The weather was warm, but everyone there felt nothing but sorrow.

At the grave, Dave stood still in a black suit and wore a blank expression. Bianca was beside him, pushing a wheelchair. Lucas sat in it with his eyes closed, tears running down his cheeks.

“Rachel, why did you have to go before me?” he said, his voice full of pain.

He had buried younger family members before. But Rachel was his beloved daughter. When Dave’s father died, Lucas was clearly hurting, but he managed to stay strong. This time, it was different. Maybe age had softened him. Maybe the losses were simply too much.

Lucas slowly opened his eyes. For a moment, he thought he saw his daughter smiling at him from afar.

“Rachel…”

Behind her, Lucas saw other familiar faces, Dave’s parents, and his own wife.

He blinked, and they were gone. Only Dave and Bianca stood nearby.

Dave stepped closer to the tombstone and softly said, “Rest in peace, Aunt Rachel.”

Just then, sunlight broke through the clear sky and lit up the stone. It felt like Rachel had heard him.

After the funeral, Bianca had to rush back to the company for something urgent. Dave brought Lucas home to the family mansion.

Phoenix Alliance Group had made a strong comeback. Not only did it survive the crisis, it actually came out stronger. The stock price had hit the limit-up for three days straight, climbing higher than before. That boost had helped Lucas recover faster too.

Rachel’s funeral had been carefully arranged, with Dave helping every step of the way. But even so, Lucas’s health was still weak. Back at home, he started coughing badly again. Luckily, his private doctor was already there and treated him right away.

Once he felt a bit better, Lucas called out to Dave. “You know how bad my health is. Are you really still going to turn me down?”

Dave looked unsure. He paused for a moment before answering quietly, “I’m only handling the Evans Group for now.”

“Hmph, still so stubborn!” Lucas muttered, then broke into another round of coughing. “You’ve been managing both Evans and Phoenix Alliance Group without missing a beat...”

Lucas knew very well that Dave wanted to step away from Evans Group. But after finally getting him to take over, he wasn’t ready to let him go. To Lucas, Dave was the one true heir to the Evans legacy.

“We’ll talk about this another time,” Dave said as he walked over and gently patted Lucas’s back. “Grandpa, I get where you’re coming from. But like I said, I’m only taking over the company for now.”

There was a huge strength in Dave’s voice. It left no room for argument. Lucas sighed and let it go.

As Dave turned to leave, Lucas gave him a warning. “Keep an eye on Lawson Group. They’ve taken a hit because of Brady’s mistakes, but they might come after Phoenix Alliance Group next.”

Dave gave a nod. “I understand.”

What Lucas didn’t know was that Lawson Group was already under Triumph Capital’s control. To Dave, the company was just a name now, nothing more.

After leaving the mansion, Dave called Bianca.

“How’s your grandpa?” Bianca’s voice came through the phone, softening Dave’s serious expression just a little.

“He’s alright,” Dave answered. Before the visit, he had told Bianca he planned to return control of Evans Group to his grandfather. But in the end, it didn’t work out. “Looks like I’ll still be managing Evans Group for a while.”

Bianca had expected that. She knew Lucas wouldn’t give up a chance like this so easily.

“So… you’re even busier now?” she asked playfully. “Are you still coming to pick me up? Don’t forget, I’m one of your shareholders. You wouldn’t dare say no to me, would you?”
