Chapter 562: I’m A Businesswoman
Brady froze. His face went pale as he stared at Dave, eyes wide with fear. He studied Dave’s face, desperate to find a clue in his voice or expression. He had no idea how much Dave had found out.
“What is it?” Brady asked, his voice shaky. He looked rattled like his mind had gone completely blank.
Just yesterday, Dave disappeared for a short while. But the truth was, he never left the hospital. Instead, he contacted Wyatt. Wyatt had managed to get his hands on the box Hughes left behind. Inside were diaries, medical files, transfer records, and even recorded conversations between Hughes and Brady. It was everything they needed to put Brady behind bars. With the evidence secured, Dave decided today was the right time to strike.
“A box,” Dave said after a short pause. “It holds proof you were involved in Rachel’s murder. Maybe Hughes knew you’d come after him, so he made sure to leave something behind.”
Brady stared at him, stunned. “You knew about this yesterday?”
“Even before that,” Dave replied coldly.
“Before that?” Brady echoed, his hands trembling. “So… yesterday, when you told me you had two hundred and fifty…” He stopped mid-sentence, the truth hitting him. He had been completely fooled.
"Starting today, 51% of Lawson Group's shares belong to Triumph Capital. You're no longer in charge," Dave said flatly. "And just so you know, I'm one of Triumph Capital's shareholders."
Brady was too shocked to speak. He turned slowly toward Dave, eyes wide. Then, without warning, he coughed up blood and dropped to the floor.
Dave leaned down, his voice cold as ice. "Think about this, what would happen if Lawson Group’s employees found out their chairman killed his own wife? What do you think the public would say? What would it mean for the company? I have no interest in exposing you, Brady. But you should know what’s best for Lawson Group."
Brady didn’t move. He just sat there, stunned. Then, out of nowhere, he started laughing like a madman. "I get it now. I get everything... Hahaha..."
Brady looked like he was about to break down completely. His body was weak, and his mind seemed to be slipping. Thankfully, they were in a hospital, and the medical staff rushed over and took him away.
Dave turned to Bianca and said the stock price of Phoenix Alliance Group would probably go up again soon. He told her not to sell her shares just yet.
Before he could say more, Bianca gave him a sly smile. “Once this crisis is over, I’ll sell a few shares to pay off what I owe. But I’m keeping the rest,” she said. “Why would I give up the chance to be a shareholder in Phoenix Alliance Group? Don’t forget that I’m a businesswoman!”
Bianca stood with her hands on her hips, looking every bit like a confident businesswoman.
Dave burst out laughing. He pulled her into a hug and, before she could react, kissed her on the lips. Then, with a teasing grin, he said, “You’re getting pretty comfortable acting like my wife, even before the wedding.”
Bianca’s face turned red. She pushed against his chest and gave him a sharp look. “Don’t forget, we’re just friends… I made a promise to someone else.”
She didn’t really want that promise, but she meant to keep it. When Blake came back, they’d settle everything.
“I never said we weren’t friends,” Dave replied, his eyes narrowing.
“There aren’t any friends quite… like us,” Bianca said, pouting slightly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Dave asked with a sly grin. He knew exactly what he was doing, teasing her on purpose.
Bianca’s cheeks turned pink, and she pressed her lips together, ready to stop him if he tried anything again.
But Dave just tapped her nose playfully. “Alright, that’s enough. You can make it up to me after we seal the deal.”
Bianca’s face burned even more.
The medication helped calm Brady down, and he lay quietly in bed for three full days. During that time, Phoenix Alliance Group’s stock price kept swinging up and down, and Lawson Group suffered heavy losses.
Looking pale and worn out, Brady finally picked up his phone and dialed Blake’s number.
“Dad… what’s happening?”
Blake was still recovering overseas. He rarely called. It was always Brady who reached out first.
But hearing Blake’s voice say “dad” so clearly made Brady’s eyes well up with tears.
“Blake, I’m so tired,” Brady said, his voice trembling. He lay on the bed, staring up at the white ceiling as silent tears rolled down his cheeks. “I miss your mother.”
The mention of his mom made Blake’s chest tighten. He couldn’t hold back the question that had haunted him for years. “Dad… how did Mom really die?”
Brady’s eyes turned red, his voice cold and sharp. “Your mother didn’t take her own life. She was murdered. By the Evans family.”
“What?” Blake’s eyes widened. “The Evans family?”
“My wife was the youngest daughter of the Evans Group’s chairman. But your mother, Everleigh, was the one I truly loved. We were deeply in love, and I had promised I’d only marry her. But then the Evans family forced me to marry Rachel. Back then, Lawson Group was in a terrible financial crisis. The Evans Group had the power to wipe us out in Edenfield. How could I refuse to marry Rachel?”
“When Rachel found out about your mother and me, she threatened to ruin my career and take your life. She forced your mother to jump off a building. Everleigh, once a celebrated singer, died in such a terrible way.”
Brady grew so upset while speaking that he coughed up blood. He wiped his mouth and stared ahead with fierce eyes. “I’ve spent over twenty years building a plan, not just to bring Lawson Group back, but to get justice for your mother. I made Rachel pay with her life. I wanted to destroy the Evans Group for what they did to Everleigh. But in the end… I only did half. I still lost to Dave.”
Hearing Dave’s name made Blake feel a sharp sting. That man had taken Bianca away from him. He already hated Dave. Now he was tied to the pain of his parents, too.
“What did Dave do?” Blake asked.
But Brady didn’t answer. His eyes had gone dull. He had already written his will and left Lawson Group in Blake’s hands.
But Brady had hoped to leave Blake a powerful Lawson Group but not the one where Triumph Capital held 51% of the shares.
On top of that, Dave had proof linking him to Everleigh’s death. If that ever got out, Lawson Group would be finished. No one would support Brady, and Blake would be left alone to face the fallout. He couldn’t let that happen.
