Chapter 544: I Don’t Break My Promise
Chapter 544: I Don’t Break My Promise
“What’s Phoenix Alliance Group’s stock looking like now?” Dave asked quietly. His voice was almost lost in the sound of wind hitting the window.
“There was a small jump, but it dropped again,” Wyatt said, eyes still on the screen. “Evans Group is buying up a lot of shares.”
Was this Grandfather’s move? The question stayed in Dave’s mind. Evans Group used to be the enemy. Now they looked like they were trying to help—but their help felt too small for the mess at hand. Staying alive wasn’t just about money. They needed a powerful story.
“The storm’s coming. Let it hit hard,” Dave said, turning to Wyatt with a firm look.
"What about the whistleblowers? Those people claiming to work for Phoenix Alliance Group?"
"We looked into them. Their families are tied to the Lawson Group. We should’ve caught it, but we missed it," Wyatt admitted, regret in his voice.
Dave knew how this game worked. Even if there was no clear proof, just being linked to Lawson Group was enough to create chaos.
The real problem wasn’t that they got in. It was the secrets they were hiding, those things far bigger than their roles.
As he pieced things together, Dave thought of Skylar. "Skylar, you pulled this off well," he said quietly, acknowledging an opponent working behind the scenes.
"Hold off on any public statements for now. We need to gather solid evidence and get ready to take legal action. And make sure our overseas accounts are protected. Since Brady had the nerve to betray me, Lawson Group has no future here," he said coldly.
Wyatt nodded quietly, his figure framed in the doorway as he got ready to leave.
Just as he turned, the sharp ring of the phone broke the silence. The secretary’s voice came through, more urgent than usual. "Sir, the press is demanding to speak with you."
Dave didn’t hesitate. "Tell them no."
"And sir, a man named Reece Barton is requesting a meeting."
Reece? Dave hadn’t seen him since the funeral.
“Let him in.”
A few seconds later, Reece walked through the door. He didn’t waste time on small talk. “Dave, I heard what’s happening with Phoenix Alliance Group. I came to help. I know I failed you during Bianca’s case. I want to make things right. I don’t practice law anymore, but I still have strong ties with the Red Circle.”
The Red Circle was a group of the country’s top legal experts. It held as much power and respect as the international Magic Circle.
Now, Reece, letting go of the pain from his past, reached out his hand. “My mentors and colleagues are ready to back you up.”
It was unexpected, a strong show of support from a family known for their legal background.
These top legal minds, usually out of reach even for the rich, were now standing with Dave.
For the first time, Dave smiled as he shook Reece’s hand. “I’m trusting you with this. But we’ll move when the time is right.”
In the meeting that followed, Reece introduced Dave to the powerful legal team he had brought together. With them on board, the lies spreading online would soon be silenced.
The goal was simple: gather solid proof, find the right legal openings, and hit back with a court ruling that couldn’t be ignored.
"I’ve been out trying to clear my head. Bianca’s case is being reopened, and I can’t waste any time. I had to bring in some help," Reece said in a tired tone. "Luckily, my old contacts still have my back, and they’ve stepped up."
"Are you sure about this?" Dave asked. He knew that overturning a conviction came with serious risks. Reece was putting his name and his freedom on the line.
Reece gave a calm, confident smile. "I don’t break my promises. I’ll deal with whatever comes."
The room went silent as Dave thought things through. Then he said, "Phoenix Alliance Group needs a legal advisor. That job’s yours."
"I'm not too sure about that. Once I get out of prison, I want to go see the world." Reece straightened his back and fixed his collar. Then he said, "You take care of the details. I’ve got a promise to keep and something I need to do."
That afternoon, the stock price of Phoenix Alliance Group stayed the same. But people online had stopped talking about the company. All the buzz was about Reece.
"Shocking! Famous Lawyer Reece Barton Faked Evidence to Frame His Own Client in Court!"
Another headline said, "Reece’s Actions Have Ruined His Reputation in the Legal World."

As the internet filled with news about Reece, Bianca got a notice from the court. The trial was on hold for now and would continue later after more review.
But when Bianca opened Twitter and read what people were saying, her heart sank.
Reece had gone from a respected lawyer to someone everyone saw as a killer and a disgrace.
Bianca had no idea Reece had gone to see Dave. At that moment, she was desperately trying to come up with more money; on top of the five hundred million she got from pawning the red diamond necklace just to keep Phoenix Alliance Group’s stock price from falling.
"Buy it. We need to buy up all the stock they're dumping."
Her hands were sweaty, and she was barely holding herself together. She knew that if this kept up, Dave wouldn’t just lose more than ten billion dollars but he could also lose control of Phoenix Alliance Group to the other side.
She couldn’t just sit back and let that happen.
"Diana, I’m counting on you. I’m going to find Dave."
Diana gave a quick nod as her eyes were still scanning the data in front of her. "This money’s not enough," she muttered under her breath.
As soon as Bianca left, Diana’s face hardened. She clenched her jaw, took a deep breath, and called Brandon.
Brandon was shocked when he heard her request. She wanted him to help stop the stock price of Phoenix Alliance Group from crashing.
"Diana, do you even understand the risks and mess that come with stock market moves like this? I can step in, but why should I help Phoenix Alliance Group?"
