Chapter 545: I’m Listening
Before she could answer, Brandon added, "You can ask me, sure. But whether I say yes depends on what you tell me next."
On the other end of the line, Diana’s ears turned warm and her cheeks flushed. She knew exactly what Brandon meant.
Still, she wasn’t sure how to feel. She liked him, but he also scared her a bit.
“Forget it. If you don’t want to help, that’s fine.” Diana ended the call and quickly opened her banking app. She frowned as she looked through her balance and muttered, “I still have some left… whatever, I’ll use it all!”
Bianca was her best friend. No matter what, she had to help her. Bianca had already emptied her savings and even borrowed money from her parents.
“How could I just stand by and do nothing?”
What mattered most was that Diana didn’t believe the rumors online. She knew Dave well. He wasn’t the type to risk the company for no reason. That’s why she didn’t see it as a loss to buy shares of Phoenix Alliance Group.
At the same time, Brandon was staring at his phone, a small smirk on his face. After a moment, he put it down and let out a quiet laugh. What did Diana think of him? How could he just sit back and not help Dave now?
Before the thought even finished, his assistant rushed over and said, “All the orders have been placed. If we sell the rest of the stocks and bonds, we can pull together fifty million dollars.”
“Sell it! Sell everything and buy up Phoenix Alliance Group’s shares! Let’s show them what we’re made of!”
Brandon had always been a fierce competitor.
“Buy as much as you can no matter what it costs.”
Meanwhile, Michael was watching Phoenix Alliance Group’s stock price from his side. He still felt guilty about what happened to Sophia the last time they met. After his mother called and asked him to help with Hayes Group, he left Edenfield and went back home.
He had been busy since then, but he also had time to think about a lot of things. When he heard about the trouble Phoenix Alliance Group was in, he called Dave to check on him and offer help.
Even though Dave sounded calm, Michael could tell things were worse than he thought. Right now, the biggest problem was saving the stock price and keeping investors from panicking. If things kept going like this, the company could fall apart.
But the money at Hayes Group was under Miranda’s control. Thankfully, Michael had made a lot of money abroad with Dave before.
“Use all of this money to buy shares of Phoenix Alliance Group,” Michael told his assistant firmly.
Today was bound to be a chaotic day in Edenfield. Every financial news outlet was talking about Phoenix Alliance Group’s falling stock price, and almost none of them were hopeful.
At Evans Mansion, Lucas gripped his cane tightly and gave Franklin an order. "Use every cent we have to buy Phoenix Alliance Group’s shares. Even if it’s no longer part of the Evans Group, Dave is still my grandson! Keep investing. Let’s see who dares to challenge the strength of the Evans family!”
Over at the Lawson family estate, Brady lounged on the sofa, his flushed face twisted into a wild grin. He had just made billions by selling off his shares in Phoenix Alliance Group.
“I’m not just taking down the Evans Group,” he sneered. “I’m going to get filthy rich while I do it.”
As Phoenix Alliance Group’s stock kept dropping, Brady kept making more money. This time, he teamed up with a few others to take a short position in the trading market, and they all split the profits. On top of that, public opinion had completely turned against Phoenix Alliance Group, giving Brady the upper hand.
Investors were starting to panic, and the situation kept getting worse. In less than a week, the company’s market value would hit an all time low record. Normally, that wouldn’t mean bankruptcy but just a major loss.
However, this time was different. Skylar had given Brady some inside information. That’s how he found out Dave had made a bet.
If Dave couldn’t reach the profit and market value he promised, he wouldn’t just lose money, he’d completely go bankrupt. Even if he gave up Phoenix Alliance Group to cover the losses, it still wouldn’t be enough.
That’s why Brady was so persistent to gamble at the short position in the trading market. He even used all the working capital from Lawson Group to do it.
"Keep borrowing chips and keep shorting," Brady told his team. "Let’s see how long Dave can hold out."
He was in a great mood. After making sure his people were doing their job, he headed to his bedroom.
With how things were going, Brady was sure Lucas wouldn’t just let Dave fall. That was exactly what he wanted.
If things went as planned, Dave would lose Phoenix Alliance Group, and the Evans Group’s money would get stuck in the market. That was how Brady planned to hit both at once.
He never wanted just Phoenix Alliance Group. He wanted the entire Evans Group. His goal was to bring them down and make his family the strongest in the nation.
To Brady, this was the perfect chance he couldn’t afford to miss. It was time to settle some old scores.
He walked into the bedroom, his expression cold and distant.
When Rachel saw him, she forgot all about her headache. She quickly put on a smile. "Honey, you're back. I… I need to talk to you about something."
Brady sat on the edge of the bed, his smile fake and controlled. "I have something to say too. But you should take your medicine first."
"Okay, go ahead. I’m listening," Rachel said after swallowing the pills.
“Are you having a terrible headache again?” he asked, clearly worried. “I’ve already made an appointment with Dr. Hughes. Don’t worry, I’ll take you to the hospital later.” As he spoke, he gently helped her sit up.
“Okay, honey. You’re always so good to me,” Rachel said with a soft smile, leaning against his shoulder.
“Of course. I have to take good care of you,” Brady said with a light laugh.
“But,” Rachel murmured, “I think I’m getting worse. I don’t even know how much time I have left. Please… just tell me the truth. How long do I have?”
Her vision was blurry. She often felt dizzy. Most days, she felt sick and didn’t want to eat. She had lost more than 20 pounds lately. And sometimes, she even heard strange voices in her head.
“Don’t think too much. We’re going to see Hughes now,” Brady said softly, patting her back to comfort her.
