Chapter 546: Rachel’s Suffering
Chapter 546: Rachel’s Suffering
Deep down, Brady knew exactly how much time she had left. How could he not? He was the one who caused all of it. The medicine Hughes gave her wouldn’t help at all. In fact, it would make everything worse. The headaches were just the start as her mind would slowly fall apart.
Years ago, Rachel had fallen for Brady the first time she saw him at a party. She married him, even though her family was against it. Brady saw a chance to get closer to the Evans Group and used it. So he married her.
But Rachel wasn’t content with that. No one knew the truth about Everleigh. She didn’t take her own life, but Rachel forced her. She used Brady’s future and reputation to threaten Everleigh until she jumped from a building.
Rachel had also planned to kill Everleigh’s child. She wanted the baby gone. But Brady found out just in time. He intercepted the killer and saved Blake. Then, he told the killer to lie and say that the child had been killed.
Over the years, Brady had been planning everything carefully. He wasn’t just focused on growing the Lawson Group, he also wanted revenge for Everleigh.
Once Rachel was out of the picture and the Evans Group collapsed, he could bring Blake back openly and name him as his only heir.
To him, Rachel deserved every bit of what she was going through.
“Brady, what was I trying to tell you just now?” Rachel asked in a weak voice as he helped her into the wheelchair. “I had a headache, and now I can’t remember. But… I think it was something important. How could I forget it so fast?”
She looked lost and confused, like a scared little girl. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she kept mumbling, “How could this happen? How could this be?”
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. It was Brady’s assistant.
“Boss,” he said, “you and your wife just got an invitation from the Evans family. They want you both to return to the Evans Mansion.”
Brady frowned for a second, then gave a bright smile.
It looked like Phoenix Alliance Group’s crisis had drained Evans Group’s funds. Now Lucas probably wanted to meet him to ask for help keeping the stock price from crashing.
“Evans Group! I… I remember!” Rachel looked at Brady, her eyes full of panic. “Honey, I remember what I wanted to say earlier! Dave’s company is in trouble. I want you to help him.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll help him.” Brady turned away from her and gave his assistant a quick wink.
The assistant gave a small nod and left immediately.
“Thank you, honey,” Rachel murmured, still feeling lightheaded. Just a moment ago, Brady looked angry, and now he was suddenly smiling. She couldn’t understand what made him change so quickly.
“I… I’m not feeling well, but I still have some money in my card. Could you give it to Dave for me?”
Brady’s eyes narrowed, and his face darkened. In his mind, all of Rachel’s money belonged to him. It annoyed him that she still cared so much about the Evans Group and not the Lawson Group.
For years, he had acted like the perfect husband, playing along and hiding his real self. But now that everything was finally under his control, he didn’t feel the need to pretend anymore.
“Don’t worry about it. Just give me the card.”
As soon as Rachel gave him the card, Brady dropped the act. He stayed silent and pushed the wheelchair as his thoughts drifted to Everleigh and Blake.
Rachel, weak and dazed, sat slumped in the chair. Her head throbbed, and she could barely stay awake. Through the fog in her mind, she tried to focus on Brady.
“Brady… do you remember the first time we met?” she whispered. “You stood so tall… and your smile… I couldn’t look away. Brady… you never said it, but I’m afraid I won’t get the chance to tell you this later. I’m sorry… sorry I couldn’t give you a child. Brady? Are you there? Why aren’t you saying anything? I’m scared… I can’t see…”
Brady didn’t hear a word. Her voice was so faint, it barely reached his ears. Her eyes were half-shut, her lips moving slowly.
He could tell she was saying something, but to him, it was nothing but soft, meaningless noise.
As soon as Brady placed Rachel in the back seat of the car, he told the driver to head to Hughes’s place.
The medicine had kicked in, and Rachel had already fallen into a coma. Brady sat beside her, his face full of disgust. He pulled out his phone and called Hughes.
“Hughes, it’s time for the final treatment. I’ve booked you a flight for tonight.”
There was a short silence on the other end. Hughes was clearly surprised, but he understood what Brady wanted.
“I got it. I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry,” Hughes said.
“When it’s done, you’ll get what you asked for.” Brady ended the call without even looking at Rachel.
She was such a fool. How could she even think about using his money to help Dave? She didn’t even realize who the real enemy of the Evans Group was.
The more Brady thought about how foolish Rachel was and how he had fooled everyone, the more satisfied he felt.
As for Lucas’s invitation, he had no plans to attend the dinner. Luckily, he had the perfect excuse. He was just being a devoted husband, taking care of his dying wife. It was the best way to look innocent and make sure no one ever suspected what he was really doing.
Still, the thought of spending more time with Rachel made him feel restless. The only person he truly wanted near him was Blake, the son he had with Everleigh.
Just then, the car stopped in front of Hughes’s clinic, pulling Brady out of his thoughts.
Inside the room, Hughes looked at him for a second before saying, “The injection will take effect in less than forty-eight hours.”
Brady let out a long sigh. “Okay.”
He knew the wait was necessary to avoid raising suspicion.
“Will she feel anything during the forty-eight hours?” he asked.
Hughes was a bit confused by the question, but he explained, “If we give her a sedative or something to numb the pain, she won’t feel much.”
He reached for the sedative, but Brady stopped him.
“No need. This is fine,” he said coldly.
His voice was calm, but there was a twisted excitement behind it. It was clear that he wanted to see Rachel suffer.
