Chapter 507: Call Me Honey
Chapter 507: Call Me Honey
After ending the call, he looked at Skylar, eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Dave’s coming back.”
Skylar’s face lit up. “Really? Is he rejoining the Evans Group? That’s great news!”
The rumors about Bianca and Dave were clearly true. Dave had finally come to his senses.
Lucas gave a nod, but deep down, he didn’t agree with what Skylar was thinking.
He didn’t believe the breakup was the only reason Dave was coming back.
To him, Bianca was just a greedy woman, and smart as Dave was, he’d eventually see the truth.
Lucas figured something else was going on—maybe something tied to Dave’s big project.
Still, all that mattered was that he was returning.
Lucas took Skylar’s hand and gently stroked it.
“Skylar, it’s been a long wait. Dave’s kept you waiting too long. Once he’s back, we’ll pick a date and plan the wedding you deserve.”
Skylar had waited so long for this day that she started to think it might never happen.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as joy filled her heart.
She gave a soft nod and said, “I’ll wait for him, no matter how long.”
Lucas gently patted her head.
“Skylar, I’m so happy. I’ve seen how much you’ve grown, and I truly believe you’re the right one for my grandson. Once Dave is back, we’ll start planning your wedding.”
He paused for a moment before adding, “We made a deal for three years. But it hasn’t even been that long, and he’s already giving in. Since he failed, he has to marry you and take over the Evans Group, just like we agreed.”
Skylar’s heart leaped as she lifted her head high. Her dream was finally coming true. She was really going to be Dave’s wife.
“I’m just so happy,” she whispered, wiping her tears. Everything was finally going her way.
Meanwhile, Dave ended the call with a cold look on his face. He turned to Bianca, who sat beside him.
She narrowed her eyes and tilted her head slightly, a hint of mischief in her voice.
“Do we really need to deal with Skylar like this? I could just bring Reece straight to my grandfather and face Skylar immediately. No need to put on a show.”
Bianca gently shook her head.
“Skylar has Lucas’s full trust. And she’s great at playing the victim. Do you really think your grandpa would believe Reece over her? He might even think you and Reece are plotting against her.
If she gets suspicious, things will get harder. So we have to catch her off guard. Quick and clean. That’s the only way to beat someone like her.”
Dave let out a low chuckle. He knew all about those kinds of moves.
But as Bianca kept pushing him toward another woman—even if it was just an act—it left a strange feeling in his chest.
“Skylar’s been after me for a while,” he said while staring at Bianca. “Doesn’t that bother you even the slightest?”
Bianca was about to speak when his phone buzzed.
They both looked down.
Skylar’s name lit up the screen.
Dave looked at Bianca. She gave his arm a small nudge and whispered, “Pick up. And be careful how you speak. We can’t mess this up.”
He quickly answered the call.
“Hello.”
His voice was calm and smooth, wrapping around Skylar like a warm breeze. Her heart fluttered.
“Dave,” she said softly. “It’s me. Your grandfather told me you’re coming back. Is it true?” Skylar’s voice was soft and sweet, but there was a trace of doubt hidden in it.
Dave stayed quiet, and the silence hung between them.
He looked at Bianca, watching her carefully, as if trying to find answers in her face.
Bianca gently touched his arm again, telling him it was time to speak.
Dave leaned closer and his breath brushed against her ear.
“Call me ‘honey’,” he whispered with a playful grin, covering the phone with his hand.
A soft blush appeared on Bianca’s cheeks.
She hadn’t expected him to joke around at a time like this.
Still, calling him “honey” out loud made Bianca hesitate.
She pressed her lips together without saying anything.
Skylar’s voice came through the phone again. “Dave, are you there? Is someone with you?”
Bianca’s heart started to race. She could hear the suspicion in Skylar’s voice.
Quietly, she gave in.
Bianca leaned closer to Dave’s ear and softly whispered, “Honey.”
The way she said it touched something in him, light and unexpected, like a soft breeze brushing his heart.
He gently placed his hand behind her head and kissed her. It was brief, quiet, and full of feeling.
Then he sat back and brought the phone to his ear.
“I’m here. Sorry, something came up. And yes, I plan to return.”
As Dave kept talking and apologizing, Skylar’s excitement grew stronger, bubbling inside her.
She paused for a moment, then asked, “Dave, did you really break up with Bianca?”
"Yes, I did," Dave said in a low voice.
Skylar’s face lit up with joy. She let out a deep breath and patted her chest.
"I'm so happy you finally came to your senses, Dave. You must’ve realized that Bianca only cares about money and status. She never really loved you. She acted recklessly at work because she thought you’d cover for her. Luckily, you saw through her lies before it was too late. Only the Evans Group can help you achieve your goals. And don’t forget, I’m the only one who really loves you. You still remember the deal you made with your grandfather, right?"
Dave knew exactly what Skylar was referring to—their marriage arrangement.
Bianca glanced at him, raising an eyebrow. She was starting to wonder what kind of promise he had made to his grandfather.
Dave didn’t answer. He just kept his eyes on Bianca, as if nothing else mattered.
“Dave? Did you hear me?” Skylar asked softly while carefully listening to him.
Bianca gave him a small nudge, urging him to respond. Dave finally said, “Yes, I remember the promise I made.”
Skylar's face lit up with surprise and she beamed. “That’s wonderful, Dave! I’m so happy! My patience has finally paid off. I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy before.”
Dave raised an eyebrow and smiled, trying his best. “Your happiness is all I want. And on our wedding day, I’m going to give you a surprise. It’ll be something you’ll remember for the rest of your life.”
A surprise on the wedding day? What kind of surprise was he talking about? Was he feeling guilty and trying to make it up to her? Skylar blinked a few times, unsure if this was all just a dream.
