Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Diego
"I'll ask once more...where the fuck is Celeste Reyes?" I snarl, my voice dripping with menace. After hours of torture, the poor bastard still hasn't cracked, but I won't stop until I get the information I need out of him.
And then I'll still slit his throat for wasting my time when I could be home with my wife right now.
"Para! Para! (Stop! Stop!)" He screams, tears streaming down his wrinkled face.
We're in the middle of my stepmother's living room. I expected to find her when I arrived, but instead, I found him scrubbing blood from the floor. He claims he doesn't know where it came from, he was just ordered to clean it, but I know the fucker is lying.
Celeste must be paying him a lot because we could've been done with this a while ago.
But oh well.
Despite Leo and Sal's assistance, we're not getting anywhere. At this rate, Luis and Alicia will be killed before we can find out where Nathan is keeping them.
And Celeste knows where he's hiding. Finding her means finding him.
While she's done well at concealing his location all these years, he must be somewhere nearby. I know he can't go long without having his mommy's titty in his mouth.
With the power out, Leo shines a flashlight on the old man, illuminating the bloody X on his chest. He coughs and spits a mouthful of blood onto the expensive carpet. A smirk curls on my lips as I imagine the shock on her face when she sees the aftermath of my men's assault on her house.
I think it's fair. She poisoned my brother and manipulated him into attempting to murder me. In response, I made sure to destroy anything with sentimental value to her.
"Por favor... No sé adónde fue," the old man sobs, "Soy solo su ama de llaves. Se fue hace unos días y no la he vuelto a ver desde entonces."
(Please...I don't know where she went; I'm just her housekeeper. She left a few days ago and I haven't seen her since)
Liar. I can smell it.
I press my gun to his temple. "You have five seconds to tell me where she is, or I'll blow your fucking brains out all over this carpet."
Abruptly, the power flickers back on, and my phone buzzes with missed calls. I pull it out with my gloved hand, and see that they're all from Nico, one of the men I left at the house in case Danny needed backup.
What now?
I lower my gun, keeping a dangerous glare fixed on the "housekeeper" as I return Nico's call. Connecting the call to my Bluetooth, I pick up the bloody hunting knife I've been using for my handiwork and resume carving lines into the man's chest, eliciting screams of pain. Nico answers on the second ring.
"What?" I bark, my impatience evident in my tone. The lack of sleep, torturing motherfuckers that won't talk, and not being able to see my wife's beautiful face for the past twenty-four hours are all taking their toll.
"Jefe," he says hesitantly, most likely from hearing the screams in the background. "Danny's in the hospital and the doctor said he was hit in the back of the head by something hard. Then, I went outside, and Mrs. Reyes and Ralph were gone-"
My heart stops, and I drop the knife on the table beside me, feeling a surge of panic and rage flood through me. "What the fuck are you talking about? Why is she not in the damn house?" I demand.
He stammers, "S-She wanted to stay with Danny. There was blood-"
I grind my molars. "Where is Ralph now?"
"We're tracking his phone now."
"Keep me updated," I growl before ending the call.
Heat coils in my chest, and I clench my fists tightly at the possibility that Ralph has taken her. But then it hits me like a ton of bricks. It's no coincidence that Danny was somehow knocked unconscious. Vanessa was attempting to escape...she was trying to leave me.
After all we've been through, and she has chosen to betray me.
And somehow, she convinced Ralph to aid her in it.
Was she only pretending to love me? Was she just biding her time until an opportunity arose to flee? Is it possible that she orchestrated a plan with her sister, and they've run off together?
Fuck.
I pace back and forth, consumed by rage and heartache. Sal sits in a chair, indulging in Celeste's expensive liquor, and Leo sits by the housekeeper, his face twisted with irritation at the man's loud cries, but he waits patiently for my next command. Leroy remains positioned by the door in case Celeste or her men show up, and the rest of my men are still ransacking the house.
The housekeeper's cries intensify, grating my nerves enough that I can't stand it anymore. Without blinking, I draw the blade across his throat, blood splattering across my face and clothes in a relentless downpour.
His life fades, but it does nothing to ease the roaring fury inside me.
Fucking great. Not only did I not get the information, but now I have blood all over my suit and the room smells like piss and shit. I guess, at least I got something out of him.
I wipe my face clean, and order one of my men to drag his body outside and toss it in the desert somewhere where the animals can have a nice meal.
Amongst this, I come to the stark realization that whether or not Vanessa betrayed me, she's fucking mine. And I won't let her get away so easily. She can run and she can hide, but I'll find her, even if I have to drag her back kicking and screaming.
It's not like it's the first time.
She has my ring on her finger, my collar around her neck...she'll always belong to me.
Growing impatient with Nico taking too fucking long to call back, I decide to take matters into my own hands.
"Leo, get Brian on the phone, now!"
