Chapter 61
Chapter 61
Vanessa
I'm fully aware that I'm walking into a trap, but If I could save my sister, I'd trade my freedom for hers any day. I know it's going to hurt Diego, but I hope he can understand and forgive me.
With ten minutes to spare, the asshole pulls up at an abandoned building. Dread grips me, threatening to overwhelm my senses, but I force myself to take deep, calming breaths.
I place my phone in the seat, knowing that it would likely be destroyed anyway. "When the power returns, please tell Diego I love him. That even in this life or the next, I will always love him," I say with real tears silently cascading down my cheeks.
"Will do," he seethes, probably still simmering with anger about the gun pointed at his head. I step out of the car and watch as it drives away. There's no turning back now, but then again, I never had a choice in the first place.
As it reaches the end of the street, the car is engulfed by a ball of fire.
"No!" I gasp. I didn't care at all for the man who was an asshole to me for no reason, but my last words to Diego just died with him.
Suddenly, two men dressed in black wearing dark ski masks rush towards me from the abandoned building. They grab me, and despite my frantic kicks and screams, they cover my head with a cloth bag and bind my hands together with zip ties. Then, I feel myself being thrown into a vehicle.
One of the men maintains a painfully tight grip on my arm, as if the zip ties aren't enough. They speak in rapid Spanish to one another, but I pick up a few words.
Something about delivering the bitch to the house.
And then I hear the name 'Nathan', and the blood drains from my face.
My heart hammers so wildly against my ribcage that I'm certain even they can hear it. Nathan must have orchestrated my abduction for revenge, so he could finally kill Diego and take his throne.
And now, it seems, I'm going to die with him.
Fuck.
Fuck.
FUCK!
I'm hyperventilating now, the restricted air from the bag making it feel like I'm about to pass out. Tears and shot stream down my face as I sob loudly, rocking back and forth in the seat.
"Cállala! (shut her up)" The driver shouts.
Suddenly, I feel a sharp prick in my neck, and within what feels like seconds, I slip into unconsciousness.
As I awaken again, the sack has been removed from my head, and I find myself tied to a metal chair in the middle of what I assume to be a basement. It feels like my mouth is filled with sand, and my head is spinning. Vomit rises in my throat, and I violently spew it all over myself and the floor.
Still coughing and choking, I hear movement and quickly snap my head in its direction. There, I find a man with brown eyes and short, brown hair watching me intently from a chair in the corner of the room. He's clad in a black suit. His skin is tan, and he has the mustache of an eighties rapist.
"I apologize, Princesa (princess). The sedative can be a bit strong," he says, a cruel smirk spreading across his face.
I glance around and notice that it's just me and him. "Where is my sister?" I demand. "You said you would kill her if I didn't show."
"She's around, alive of course," he drawls, standing up and circling me slowly. "Diego sure knows how to pick a pretty piece of ass. I apologize for not coming to the wedding. My mom said it was quite a beautiful ceremony."
The way he's looking at me feels violating, and I'm afraid to know the thoughts going on in his fucked-up little mind. Meeting his gaze, defiance burns within me.
"He'll come looking for me," I spit out.
He lets out a dark, evil laugh, sending a chill up my spine. "I know, that's exactly what I want. He'll come to save his precious wife, and I won't miss this time," he sneers.
My eyes widen in horror. No. He can't kill Diego. "You could let me and my sister go. We can pretend none of this ever happened," I nearly sob in desperation, "You don't have to do this."
"Actually, he does." The door to the basement opens and a woman steps into the room. Dressed in an expensive dress, her heels clack on the floor as she walks over to us, an evil smirk on her face.
Celeste.
