Chapter 37
Chapter 37
"Ms. Chapman, is the house around here?" Malcolm was afraid that her house was so far away that it would be inconvenient for her to pick up her child.
Malcolm asked a lot of questions. He hadn't wanted to speak these questions out, but he couldn't help doing this. Even Malcolm himself didn't know the reason.
It was as if Marilyn had a magic power that bewitched him.
Only after a few years did he understand what this magic power was. It was love. When a man fell in love, he was willing to do anything for his beloved woman.
"Yes, it's near the school." Marilyn smiled. That smile was relaxed and pleasant.
As Malcolm looked at the smiling Marilyn, he could not help but also smile slightly.
His voice was clear and carried an imperceptible gentleness. "Congratulations, Ms. Chapman."
"Thank you, too, Mr. Lowe," Marilyn said politely, her smile moving.
She felt that Malcolm was completely different from the first time she saw him.
Back then, Malcolm was like a hedgehog, having a thorn all over his body. He was on guard against everyone as if he always carried a cold aura. When one saw Malcolm from afar, the person might go to another side to avoid Malcolm.
Malcolm looked straight at Marilyn. He was going to say something, which made him feel somewhat nervous.
He had run an enterprise for many years and had gone through many difficulties.
However, when Malcolm looked at Marilyn's pure and clean face, he couldn't help getting nervous.
His eyes flashed and a faint smile appeared on his lips. "Ms. Chapman, since you want to thank me, how about treating me to dinner?"
When Marilyn heard this, she got a bit embarrassed. Tonight, she was going to have dinner with Roland and the others, and Arturo had to return to Goldmere.
Marilyn looked up. Her clear and bright eyes were suffused with a touch of guilt, yet they were attractive. "Mr. Lowe, I've had an appointment tonight. Why don't we eat out tomorrow night?"
When Malcolm heard this, disappointment flashed across his eyes. "Is she going to have dinner with Roland?" Malcolm thought.
Everyone was like this. When they believed that something belonged to them, they would definitely care about it.
Malcolm was such a classic example. When he didn't want something, he didn't even bother to look at it. But when he wanted something, he would do anything to get it.
He just met Marilyn a few days ago, yet Malcolm felt that Marilyn had stolen his heart.
On the street, people came and went in a hurry.
Malcolm was about to speak.
Suddenly, Marilyn's phone rang again.
Malcolm lowered his eyes and stood at the side in an imposing manner. There was no expression on his handsome face, making him look a little indifferent.
"Arturo." When Marilyn received her son's call, the smile on her lips grew wider.
The name "Arturo" made Malcolm tense up.
Being ignored, Malcolm suddenly held his breath and listened.
"Mommy, Jeannie, and I won't come home tonight. We'll come back tomorrow, so we can't have dinner with you. We have a dinner party here. After dinner, mommy, could you wait for me? I'll be home around ten o'clock."
"Why?" Marilyn asked in confusion.
"You will know tomorrow morning! Mommy, goodbye!" Arturo quickly hung up the phone but left suspense for Marilyn.
Marilyn held her phone with a puzzled face. Judged by Arturo's tone, Arturo seemed very happy.
Malcolm, on the other hand, was suddenly excited. A bright smile blossomed on his handsome face. "It seems that Ms. Chapman has no dinner tonight."
Marilyn looked at Malcolm, who had a faint smile on his face as if he was looking forward to being treated to dinner by her.
"Since I have time, just do it," she thought.
Marilyn smiled and said, "Then I'll return your favor and treat you to dinner."
"My pleasure!" Malcolm looked at Marilyn with a charming smile.
Marilyn suddenly felt a chill in her heart.
Malcolm's smile reminded Marilyn of his cold aura when Sandra hid in his arms. Back then, Marilyn could feel the ruthlessness from Malcolm's body even from afar.
Marilyn's eyes flashed. She did not dare to look into Malcolm's eyes. She seemed to urge, "Mr. Lowe, let's go!"
With that, Marilyn turned and walked forward.
Malcolm looked at Marilyn's receding figure, his handsome face relaxed, and his dark eyes shone with a bright light.
Malcolm went up a few steps and soon walked shoulder-to-shoulder with Marilyn. "Ms. Chapman, are you used to living in our company's dormitory?" His tone was neither fast nor slow, but it carried a bit of laziness and faint concern.
"It's good. At first, I was going to return to Goldmere after staying there for a month. Now, I might have to stay there for a lifetime."
Marilyn had not expected it.
She had thought of coming back, but the city had left her with too much pain.
It gave Marilyn the feeling that she was locked in a cage and she couldn't escape anywhere.
Time never left all the wounds to heal, especially the wounds in one's heart, which might not be able to recover for a lifetime.
In the past, Marilyn did not have enough courage to face all these sorrowful memories because she was not confident enough to face Sandra. In other words, Marilyn had been living under the shadow of Sandra.
However, after Marilyn was hurt by the deepest pain in the world, she suddenly realized that if she had yet to become strong, she might be knocked down.
"Fielddell is good! Ms. Chapman, don't you like this place?" Malcolm attempted to sound out Marilyn's feelings for Fielddell again.
Marilyn glanced at the bustling street and a bitter smile appeared on her lips. "It's not that I don't like it. This place left me with a bit of grief, but now it gave me some hope."
Marilyn had forgotten what had happened before she was six. She might get back her memory one day. That memory might be hiding in a corner of this city.
However, even if she went to ask Margie, Margie would not tell her.
After all, both Sandra and Margie were vicious women.
But Marilyn still tried to find her biological parents. At the very least, she wanted to know if their lives were going well.
At the very least, she wanted to see what her parents looked like.
Marilyn believed that kinship was always the closest relationship in this world. She swore to try every way to find her biological parents.
Marilyn always wondered if she took after her father or her mother. If they saw her, what would they say to her?
"As long as there is hope." Malcolm seldom comforted others, so it was a bit difficult for him to say something inspiring right now. He had been in the abyss and longed for someone who could touch his heart to pull him out of the abyss.
In the past few days, Marilyn had suddenly appeared in his world. From then on, Malcolm changed a lot.
But he would only show his change to Marilyn.
Malcolm didn't want Marilyn to feel worried about anything. He just hoped that Marilyn could be happy for the rest of her life.
Sometimes, even if one was smiling, it didn't mean that he had forgotten about the painful past.
"That's right. As long as there is hope!" Marilyn smiled confidently and looked at the blue sky. With three children, Marilyn believed she would lead a bright life in the years to come.
Malcolm looked at Marilyn's energetic smile, and he also smiled slightly.
There was a supermarket nearby. Malcolm asked Marilyn to wait for him. He went to buy two bottles of water, unscrewed the cap, and handed a bottle to Marilyn.
"Thank you." Marilyn took the water with a smile and glanced at this handsome and elegant man. She suddenly felt that Malcolm was not as terrifying as how her colleagues had described. Indeed, Malcolm was indifferent and distant. Considering his identity as the CEO of the Lowe Group, it was quite reasonable that Malcolm was not so easy to get along with.
