Chapter 154
Chapter 154
Outside the school, Charlotte was escorted to a waiting car. The vehicle was equipped with special materials, bulletproof and resistant to various thermal weapons.
Even though the school's premises had been cleared of bombs, Theo had come prepared, and no one knew if he had any other plans lurking in the shadows.
Chris wasn't about to let his sister take such a risk.
The people at the school had no idea what kind of life-and-death disaster they had just narrowly avoided. They all emerged from the school, unaware of the danger they had faced. They got into various luxury cars and departed one after another.
Originally, Carl wanted to wait at the door, but with too many acquaintances coming and going, he had no choice but to hide in the Scott family's car.
Chris voiced his concern, "Are you sure Theo will keep his word?"
"Not entirely," Carl replied, taking off his gold-rimmed glasses and impatiently rubbing his brow. "But Kingsley had to take a gamble on whether Theo still had it in him to rejoin and take control of the entire Livingston family, and to win over his father."
"And it seems Theo's obsession runs very deep indeed."
Otherwise, Theo wouldn't have agreed so quickly to defuse all the bombs if he hadn't wanted to reclaim his identity within the Livingston family and win him back into the fold of power. Carl's words brought silence to the car.
After a moment of silence, Charlotte spoke up suddenly, "What exactly did Kingsley go through before?"
She didn't intend to delve into the hidden secrets of the Livingston family, but Theo's words had always haunted her. Kingsley's hatred for Theo, his paranoia, and the insecurity and self-absorption hidden within him... All of it made Charlotte want to uncover the truth about Kingsley's past.
What had caused Kingsley, who should have been gentle and kind, to adopt an appearance of isolation and loneliness, presenting himself as cold and indifferent, avoiding emotional attachments?
Even after all these years, only specialists and medication could manage his condition.
What could have led Kingsley to this state?
Carl's expression betrayed a hint of pain and reluctance at her question. Instead of speaking, he put his glasses back on, concealing the scowl that had momentarily escaped him.
"I'm sorry..." Carl said, "These are things that I don't think anyone in the entire Livingston family would dare to mention unless Kingsley brought them up himself."
"Fair enough," Charlotte replied. "I'll wait for him to tell me himself."
The car fell silent once again.
Chris then spoke up, "Charlotte, I suppose we should inform our parents about what happened today."
Charlotte hugged her knees, her face slightly numb. "It's okay. This is no longer the time to worry about such things."
She was no longer concerned about how her parents would react to this. Her heart and eyes were filled with Kingsley. A duel to the death. As she thought of these words, Charlotte felt her heart wrenching, her hands and feet as cold as ice, the chill penetrating her bones.
Suddenly, the car door swung open from outside. Charlotte immediately raised her head, followed by the others in the car. Carl, in particular, was so shocked at the sight of the visitor that he nearly stood up, a complete departure from his usual calm demeanor.
"Ms. Livingston...."
Chris and Charlotte looked over, only to see a striking young woman with a powerful aura standing outside the car. Her appearance bore a resemblance to Kingsley's, but unlike Kingsley's introverted and deep aura, hers was overpowering, giving off a sense of oppression.
The woman glanced at Charlotte and Chris, nodded in greeting, then asked, "Where's Kingsley?"
"Kingsley... he's in the school warehouse, facing off with Theo... He challenged Theo..."
"What the fuck!" Freya's expression turned ice cold. "Report to the forbidden room for three months!"
Carl's face paled, but he didn't argue and murmured respectfully, "Yes."
As Freya turned to leave for the school, she paused, looking at Charlotte. "Do you want to come with me?"
Chris's face paled slightly, but before he could intervene, Charlotte firmly responded, "Yes!"
Freya's eyes flickered with appreciation as she gestured, "Come."
Charlotte took her hand and jumped out of the car, running with Freya towards the warehouse. When they arrived, Freya had already cleared the area. There weren't many people around as Charlotte followed her to the warehouse.
To their surprise, the warehouse was empty. "Ms. Livingston, there are traces over here," a subordinate nearby said.
Freya hurried over, following the traces until they reached the rooftop of the building.
Kingsley and Theo were locked in a fierce battle on the rooftop, their figures barely visible amidst the shadows.
Both wielded weapons, their blades already drawing blood.
Kingsley's white shirt was more than stained; it was soaked with blood, and Theo's waist, belly, and shoulder were equally gruesome.
Charlotte was instantly distressed and tears welled up in her eyes.
Freya's expression grew even darker.
No one understood the Livingston family's code better than him; if the two dueled, one would die.
Kingsley was superior in combat, but Theo excelled in cunning. Each move was cunning and vicious.
As the two fought, Freya and Charlotte dared not make a sound, fearing they might distract Kingsley.
Kingsley, however, seemed to sense something. He glanced slightly in their direction, and his expression instantly changed.
"Lower left, be on guard," Freya said in a cold, deep voice.
Kingsley reacted swiftly and obeyed.
"Top right, attack."
Kingsley slashed his blade, cutting Theo's shoulder again.
"One inch below the belly."
Kingsley kicked hard with his leg.
"Break his left rib."
Kingsley lunged forward, blocking Theo's knife with his left hand and driving his own knife hard into Theo's ribs, sending him to the ground.
Under Freya's guidance, Kingsley finally prevailed. His face was covered in blood, his dark eyes sunken and now tinged red with crimson, resembling a ferocious beast.
"Good job, Kingsley," Freya breathed a sigh of relief. "Disable his arms and legs. He's mine now, and you need not involve yourself in the subsequent dirty business."
However, Kingsley didn't move.
Freya frowned slightly and tried again, "Kingsley?"
Kingsley's knife was still lodged in Theo's body as he looked up and met Freya and Charlotte's gaze.
The moment they saw the look in his eyes, they were momentarily speechless.
At that moment, Kingsley's face, covered in blood, was horrifying, his crimson eyes devoid of the slightest emotion, filled only with murderous intent.
He seemed to have lost his mind entirely; the depths of his eyes showed no light, only bloodthirsty hunger, reminiscent of a beast kept captive for days on end, longing only to devour its prey.
Charlotte froze in place, unable to utter a word.
