Chapter 143
Chapter 143
Ben listened and instantly came to his senses.
Yes! He had almost forgotten that he still had quite a bit of leverage over Charlotte! Not to mention the fact that he had recorded their conversation this time. Just based on those photos of her hooking up with another man, it was enough for people to see her true colors clearly!
He believed that if he sent them to Kingsley, Kingsley would no longer treasure and protect her.
Ben sneered fiercely, vowing that he wouldn't let Charlotte get away with this.
He found the contact information of Kingsley's staff and directly sent the photos he had received before, along with the recording of his conversation with Charlotte that afternoon.
The recording wasn't sent in its entirety; he had cropped some parts of the conversation:
"I can totally understand if you want to move up. As long as you follow me, your future will be absolutely bright!"
"You have to give me time to think about it, right?"
"How long do you need?"
"One night? One night for me to think about giving up Kingsley. That's not too much to ask, is it?"
In the recording, Charlotte's voice was still playful, but with this dialogue, it was instantly different. Especially the last sentence, with its relaxed tone and apparent lack of concern, made it easy for people to imagine how vain and manipulative Charlotte is. It was as if Kingsley was just a tool for her gain, someone she could discard at will, without a second thought.
With the photos of the affair as hard evidence, Ben believed that Kingsley would no longer treat her as a treasure.
When Charlotte got kicked out by Kingsley, he would definitely take her back! Thinking of Charlotte's beautiful face, he vowed that he would not give up on her!
Ben narrowed his eyes, the usual disguise of warmth had long in his eyes since faded, leaving only a cloud of gloom and resentment.
At this moment, he didn't know that the woman on the other end of the phone he had called for help was no longer as confident as she had seemed earlier; she was now looking nervous.
"I did everything you told me to do. This should provoke Kingsley," she said.
A middle-aged man was sitting in a chair in the darkness, his dark eyes glinting with an eerie light.
"And how is provocation alone enough?" He curled his lips into a sinister smile. "It's hard to wait until Kingsley has someone he cares so much about. I'm going to drive him crazy."
In the evening, Kingsley waited a little longer after dropping Charlotte off at her apartment. Only when she turned on the electric light in her room did he head back to his car, speeding all the way home.
After washing up and lying back in bed, Kingsley's eyes sparkled with laughter as he watched Charlotte send a goodnight message.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the bedroom door.
The smile vanished from his eyes, and his demeanor returned to its usual coldness. "Come in."
Carl walked in holding a metal tray containing the medication to suppress Kingsley's condition. After placing the medication on the desk to the side, Carl took out his cell phone and handed it to Kingsley.
"It basically checks out regarding what happened between Charlotte and Ben. This is the evidence that Ben sent to my men to report to you."
"Report?" Kingsley narrowed his eyes, a coldness emerging from them. "Who is he going to report?"
"Charlotte."
Danger flashed in Kingsley's eyes as he took the phone and examined the so-called evidence, his expression growing grimmer with each passing second.
By the time he had thoroughly listened to the recording, a storm had brewed in his deep eyes, as if a thousand pounds of dynamite were hidden beneath them, ready to explode at the slightest provocation.
Carl had been watching his expression closely, and now he frowned with worry. "Kingsley, don't get excited."
"How dare he threaten her?" Kingsley gripped his phone so tightly that the glass screen shattered, splintering into shards.
His fingertips were cut, oozing blood, but he didn't care. His mind was fixed on the "evidence." One look, and he knew Ben had threatened Charlotte with those photos.
How dare Ben?
"The Mendel family doesn't need to exist," Kingsley said coldly, his eyes scarlet. "As for Ben, tie him up. I want to deal with him personally!"
Kingsley's voice trembled slightly, and veins rippled on his forehead—a precursor to uncontrollable emotions.
Carl did not obey his orders as usual but lowered his voice in an attempt to soothe him. "Kingsley, are you... still in control of your emotions now?"
Kingsley looked up, meeting his eyes with a ferocious gaze. Carl's heart trembled, and a chill spread across his back.
As he started to be on high alert, Kingsley's eyes began to focus, and he seemed to slowly regain his senses, though his face remained terribly cold. "What do you think?"
Carl let out a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, Kingsley calmed down.
Whether due to the drugs or Charlotte's influence, Kingsley was able to quickly suppress his emotions and restrain himself when something touched his bottom line. This was a strategic breakthrough.
Carl's expression relaxed considerably as he said, "The Mendel family's company has suffered some impacts, and the situation is not very good now. If we make another rash move, your relationship with Charlotte will only be discovered by the Scott family."
Kingsley pursed his lips, his eyes filled with gloom.
"Targeting the Mendel family would be a bigger move, but going after Ben is trivial," Carl reminded him.
Kingsley let out a snort of laughter that didn't reach his eyes. "I'm going to make him disappear from Charlotte's world forever."
"Yes, Kingsley," Carl responded, this time without the slightest hesitation.
After Carl finished bandaging Kingsley's hand and exited the room, Kingsley picked up the bottle of pills on the table. He gripped it tightly, and a trace of extreme anger quickly flashed through his eyes. The bandage on his palm started to bleed again, yet he remained indifferent.
"Ben..." he growled, his teeth clenched. A menacing aura surrounded him.
Carl walked out of the room before turning his gaze back to the closed door. Beneath his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes showed a mix of surprise and deep thought, but he remained in a state of shock.
Kingsley's condition seemed to have improved; he no longer appeared to need the drugs to control his emotions. This was good news for the Livingston family, signaling a glimmer of hope.
Contemplating for a moment, Carl took out his cell phone, briefly recounted the recent events, and sent a message. Soon, he received a reply.
[Keep an eye on him, don't take it lightly. I'll soon come back to meet him.]
Carl looked at the message, and his face gradually became grave.
