Revenge with My Quadruplets

Chapter 136

Chapter 136

Late at night, Charlotte's cell phone rang, prompting her to glance at the screen and answer it quietly: "Hello? Carl?"

"It's not Carl," Kingsley's low, soothing voice came from the other end. "It's me."

"Kingsley!" Charlotte's eyes instantly lit up, her surprise evident in her rising tone. "Why are you calling me? Did you get home safely? Have you been followed? And by the way, Chris and Ian seem to have picked up your trail; you need to be careful. Why don't you head back?"

Her words spilled out rapidly, like pouring beans.

Instead of impatience, a low chuckle emanated from Kingsley's end.

Charlotte felt her head spinning, hearing Kingsley's magnetic voice. She must have been drunk!

"I'm home safe and sound," Kingsley replied, a chuckle laced in his deep voice, resonating with Charlotte's eardrums. "As for Chris and Ian, I intentionally left a trail to distract them. Don't worry, they won't be able to track me. And remember to save this phone number; it's mine."

Charlotte was bewildered by his successive responses.

She stammered, "But why?"

Charlotte's mind raced through her memories with Kingsley: the protector at the drama club, the attendee at Diana's concert, the defender in the bar, the companion in her troubles, the partner in fleeing down the street, even the one who kissed her. She desperately wanted to understand why Kingsley had done all of this.

There was a brief silence on the other end before Kingsley's voice, serious and solemn, broke through: "Because I love you."

Charlotte froze for a moment.

Kingsley's expression was solemn as he uttered those words, his emotions palpable.

He had refrained from getting too close to her because of his condition, harboring feelings that ran deep but were kept suppressed.

Yet, he never anticipated that the girl he held dear in his heart would confess to him with apprehension, even fearing that her feelings might burden him psychologically.

As Kingsley contemplated this, his heart clenched in pain.

How could he have been so cowardly and let his beloved girl face it all alone?

Wasn't her feeling sad and disappointed when she encountered his aloofness and avoidance?

It was astonishing how much he had subjected his cherished treasure to endure. Kingsley felt utterly condemned.

She had taken the courageous step to shine her light solely on him, so why should he fear embracing his own moon?

As for his ailment, he could contain it, and he could certainly restrain himself, ensuring his moon remained unharmed.

He was determined to appreciate the favor bestowed by the heavens and stand by her. He vowed to shower her with even deeper love and favor, ensuring her happiness overflowed. And the confession was just the beginning.

On the other end of the phone, Charlotte was stunned, her eyes continuously moistening. Kingsley confessed his affection for her.

Tears trickled onto the back of her hand as Charlotte choked out, "Kingsley, I'm so happy." She truly was.

"Charlotte, I'm happy too," Kingsley replied.

"So, does this mean we're now together?" Charlotte cautiously inquired.

"Not quite."

"Huh?" Disappointment washed over Charlotte, but before it could fully settle, she heard Kingsley's voice again. "After all, I haven't even officially courted you yet," he teased, his low tone tinged with laughter.

Charlotte couldn't help but smirk. "So... How do you plan to woo me?"

"As the years pass and prosperity wanes, I wish to devote my limited life and boundless faith to loving you endlessly, protecting you, and indulging you, so that you may live carefree and content," Kingsley declared solemnly, each word resonating from the depths of his heart and soul.

"So, Charlotte," he continued, "will you stay with me?"

His words brought tears to Charlotte's eyes. The overwhelming happiness she felt was almost surreal.

She covered her eyes, but her grin was uncontrollable.

"I do," she affirmed decisively.

How could she refuse him? In that moment, all she wanted was to run to him with unrestrained passion and boldness.

Kingsley briefly outlined his plans to return home early, and Charlotte snapped back to reality. "Oops! By the way! We mustn't let my brothers know we're already together, or they'll surely try to break us up!"

After all, she was well acquainted with her brothers' "feudalism" and "authoritarianism."

"Don't be afraid," Kingsley murmured, his tone chillingly cold. "No one can tear us apart."

No one would snatch her away from him, not even her own kin.

Meanwhile, Carl was in another room, conversing on the phone with someone.

In a respectful manner, Carl briefly recounted recent events to the person on the other end of the line, mentioning Charlotte as well.

"Take care of him, and let me know if anything happens," a raspy, aged voice emanated from the other end of the line.

Upon hearing this, Carl displayed a few moments of surprise and deep contemplation behind his gold-rimmed glasses.

In a dimly lit room, an elderly man sat at his desk. After setting down his cell phone, he heaved a deep sigh.

This man was none other than the head of the Livingston family and Kingsley's grandfather.

He then reached for the family portrait on his desk, donning his reading glasses to examine it closely. "Now, you can rest assured that Kingsley won't be alone anymore."

In the family photo, a kind couple smiled gently, with young Kingsley seated in front of them, alongside a beautiful woman who was Kingsley's older sister.

The family had taken this picture right after Kingsley was taken back home.

However, at that time, none of them anticipated that such happiness would be so short-lived.
