Chapter 72
Chapter 72
After the banquet, everyone hadn't recovered from the shock yet.
In the car, Laura noticed that there was blood oozing out of Rose's tightly clenched hands.
"Relax! It's not a big deal. Carlos said that because he was fooled by that bitch Emily. She's now a disowned daughter of the Hopkinson family. Compared to you, she is nothing." Laura knew that things were not that simple. No one in the business world would hand over their interests for this reason. She just wanted to calm Rose down for now and deal with the rest later.
"Really? Laura, am I better than Emily?"
"Of course. She's just an ordinary person with a ruined reputation." Laura felt sorry and put a band-aid on Rose's wound.
"What's the point of hurting yourself like this? It will only make Emily happy," Laura scolded her.
"You are right. I won't give her what she wants."
In the meantime, Carlos and Emily were traveling in a different car while Andrew stayed with the driver in their previous car.
"You do know how to make trouble for me."
"I'll give you another chance to rephrase it." Carlos glared at her in dissatisfaction.
"Dear handsome Carlos, thank you for coming to help me."
Carlos was finally satisfied. Emily couldn't help but laugh.
"However, after we announce our cooperation with the branch office today, there will be people targeting you. Laura and Rose still have their influence over the branch office. Aren't you afraid that they will use some dirty tricks to ruin it?" When it came to business, Carlos' looked serious.
"But this was the best chance I could get."
"You are a bad girl, you know that? I guess neither of them will be able to sleep at night after what happened today. After all, your bet still has more than a month left. With this contract, everyone knows you won." Carlos was smart and knew Emily's intentions immediately.
"People tend to make mistakes when they are under huge pressure. Their weaknesses are too obvious. If they cannot let go of their interests, they will lose them. Too bad, even though they understand it, they still cannot let go," Emily said coldly.
Carlos poured red wine and handed it to Emily. He raised his glass and said, "Congratulations on trapping your prey."
"They will mess up. Then, I'll make my move!"
Emily and Carlos clinked their glasses and then drank their wine in one go.
"No, I can't drink anymore. I have two kids waiting for me at home," Emily said as she placed her hand over the glass, stopping Carlos from filling the glass.
"It seems I have to enjoy this great wine alone." Carlos shook his glass casually.
Derek did not show up this time. His assistant Eric attended the event on his behalf.
As soon as the event ended, Eric didn't even say goodbye to anyone and asked the driver to take him back to the Scott's.
"Eric, what happened? How was the banquet today?" Charlie considered them as his kids, so he was worried when he saw Eric's expression.
"Charlie, is Derek in the study? I need to talk to him now," Eric said anxiously.
"He just put Aaron and Ian to bed, so keep it quiet."
Charlie hadn't finished speaking when Eric quickly went upstairs. He tried not to make a sound.
He had just walked up to the second floor when Derek closed the door and came out.
Derek glanced at Eric and signaled Eric to follow him.
They didn't start talking until they entered the study.
"Derek, I saw Emily at the banquet," Eric said in a hurry.
"Really? I thought Rose wouldn't bring her there. Well, good job. She had her way," Derek said proudly.
Eric rolled his eyes at Derek as he thought, 'What's the matter with you? Just wake up!'
But Eric didn't show it on his face. He closed his eyes for a second and said calmly, "She is the representative of Silvery Waterfall."
Derek paused with the glass in his hand and looked up at Eric.
Eric repeated it.
Derek put down his glass and chuckled, "Great! Rose must be outrageous. I remember Emily had an agreement with her. It seems that Emily is winning. Smart girl."
Eric wanted to tell Derek that the woman who was about to lose the company was the mother of his children, but when he thought about the way Rose treated Aaron and Ian these years, he understood why Derek disliked her.
"I'm afraid that Rose will not give up easily." Eric worked with Emily before and knew that she was nice to Aaron and Ian, so he naturally spoke up for her.
"Eric, keep an eye on the Hopkinson Group but don't spook them. Just pay attention to any movements they make."
As soon as Derek finished speaking, he saw Eric hesitating to speak.
"Anything else?" Derek asked.
Then, Eric told Derek everything that happened at the entrance of the banquet.
When Derek heard that Carlos took Emily into the banquet and grabbed her shoulder, he narrowed his eyes. Carlos really showed up at the right time.
His intuition told him that Carlos didn't just consider Emily as a business partner.
Carlos would be his strong rival.
"Eric, go check their relationship. How did Emily know the playboy from the Torres family? I can't let him fool her."
Derek tightened the grip on his glass. If Carlos dared to mess with Emily, he wouldn't let Carlos go.
"I hate this wine. Throw it away." Derek was suddenly in a bad mood.
Eric could not help feeling sorry as he watched such expensive wine go to waste.
"Derek, if there's nothing else, I'm heading back now."
"You had a long day. Take a half day off tomorrow."
As a boss, Derek could be very considerate.
Eric closed the door and left quietly.
Derek leaned back in his chair. He reached his hand into his pocket only to find no cigarettes. He pulled out a candy from his pocket.
He quit smoking long ago, but he couldn't control himself when he was bothered, so he always carried a few candies with him.
Someone knocked on his door as he put the candy into his mouth.
Eric returned.
He said excitedly, "Derek, I got some updates about Bennett."
No wonder Eric got excited. It was an old story and involved people from the upper class. They had made a huge effort to look into it. The Scott family was powerful and had never come across such a difficult case.
Derek swallowed the candy in his mouth and said, "Come in."
Eric stayed for a while and then left.
