Revenge with My Quadruplets

Chapter 37

Chapter 37

At the same time, Emily was taking her two kids home.

Chris was in a good mood because Aaron wasn't around to divide Emily's attention, while Diane was carefree.

The next few days were very peaceful. Emily felt the urgent need to have a competent assistant. She interviewed several people, but she was not satisfied. None of them was good enough.

Today, she came to the café downstairs alone while still thinking about the company's project.

She looked out of the window aimlessly and noticed a familiar figure.

She saw a hobo on the street. His clothes were shabby but clean, and it was obvious that he was trying to maintain his decency, which made him stand out among other hobos.

Emily stopped stirring her coffee. "Is it him?"

She traced him back in her memory.

She knocked on the window, and the hobo looked up at her. He was confused at first, but then it seemed that he recalled who she was. He took a few steps forward excitedly, but he stopped after looking at himself.

Emily waved at him, signaling him to come in.

In the end, he mustered his courage and walked in.

It could be told that he hadn't been to a restaurant for a long time, and he came to Emily awkwardly.

"Miss Hopkinson, I thought you were already..." He didn't continue.

Emily knew what he was about to say. Before she came back, everyone thought she was dead.

"It's been a while, Andrew," Emily said to him.

Andrew looked a little dazed. It had been a long time since someone had called his name. It made him feel both strange and familiar, and he even had the urge to cry.

"Andrew, what happened these years? How did you become like this?" Emily said softly.

She still remembered that Andrew was a meticulous young man when he just became Bennett's assistant. Bennett used to sponsor some students every year, and Andrew was one of them. He was an orphan and indebted to Bennett, so Bennett trusted him a lot. Bennett hired Andrew as his assistant after Andrew graduated.

Emily didn't see Andrew after she came back this time. She figured it was because Laura had deliberately sent him somewhere else.

She was surprised to see him appear in front of her like this.

"Emily, after what happened to you five years ago, Bennett didn't believe the rumors. I was knocked out one night, and I woke up next to a naked woman. The next thing I know, someone broke in with cameras and took photos of us." Andrew spoke, choking up.

What happened afterward wasn't complicated. They threatened Andrew with the photos, saying he had raped the woman. Not only did they ask him for money repeatedly, but eventually they asked him about the company's confidential information. He turned them down. However, the next day he arrived at the company, he was caught by security and was accused of selling company top secrets, for which he was fired. Then he never saw Bennett again.

"Can't say it's the first time I've heard of such plots. How did you end up being a hobo?" Emily shook her head.

Andrew's eyes turned red. He clenched his fists angrily. "After that, every time I found a job, they would go to the company to threaten me and spread those photos around. I couldn't find another job from then on.

"I tried all kinds of things, but they had people behind them, and there was nothing I could do. I could only choose to be a hobo. It was the only way to make them not find me," Andrew said, covering his face with his hands.

"People behind them?" Emily asked. "Laura and Rose?"

"Yes. They tried to buy me off before, but I never said yes to them. Bennett has always been kind to me. Without him, I would never have finished my studies," Andrew replied.

Emily frowned and thought, 'Andrew was Bennett's assistant. Why were Laura and Rose targeting Andrew? Did he stumble upon some secret?'

"Andrew, I'm looking for an assistant now. I believe in Bennett's choice. Will you be my assistant?" The more Emily thought about it, the more she thought Andrew would be the perfect one.

"But I'm in so much trouble." Andrew was desperate for a job, but he was worried about the photos.

"Relax. It's not a big deal." Emily nodded.

  Then she called Louise.

"Louise, I need a favor. Andrew was Bennett's assistant. Yes, the sooner the better. OK. I'll wait for your call." Emily hung up and called for the waiter.

"Andrew, eat something first. There will be good news soon," she comforted Andrew.

Andrew was concerned about the photos. The food was nice, yet he still fell into a trance from time to time. He thought, 'Can this be handled with a phone call? Won't it be too easy?'

Suddenly, Emily's phone rang. She glanced at the screen and handed the phone to Andrew.

  She said, "Pick it up."

Andrew did as he was told. It was a little noisy on the other end of the line, and he could tell that someone was being beaten.

A man said, "Think before you speak." Andrew soon found out to whom this remark was addressed.

"Andrew, it was my fault! I will delete all those photos. Please! Tell them to let me go," the man said, who used to threaten Andrew. His voice was full of fear right now.

Andrew looked at Emily, who smiled at him.

  "Continue," another man ordered.

"Alright! Alright. Andrew, please, spare me. Rose put me up to this. Come on! She is a member of the Hopkinson family. I dare not disobey her." The man who threatened Andrew burst into tears. He thought, 'Why am I so unlucky? I messed with the Hopkinson family as well as the Norris family. No way, I can't stay here anymore. I'll flee tomorrow. Heck, I'll flee tonight!'

Andrew was utterly stunned. He had no idea that what was to him a devastating disaster that would destroy his normal life was to Emily a trivial matter that could be fixed with a phone call.

"I can let you off the hook, but those photos never exist. I hope you can remember this." Andrew could finally get rid of the nightmare that had been haunting him for five years.

"Sure thing! There were never any photos. What photos? Is that OK?" The last sentence was not meant for Andrew.

Emily took the phone back from Andrew and said to the phone, "Thanks."

By the time she hung up the phone, Andrew was still motionless. He thought, 'My nightmares are over? All those years of shadow in my life are dispelled just like that?' Andrew had never realized that the sunshine outside was so wonderful. Life seemed good again.

"Thank you, Emily," he said sincerely. He was genuinely grateful to Emily.

"What are your plans?" Emily asked. She could have just made Andrew her assistant, but she didn't want to force him into anything.

"I want to work for you." He was a bit awkward. "You know me. I think I can help you."

Emily was tempted. She was on her own, so her time was largely limited. There were a lot of pending issues. Besides, Louise had her own business to attend to. Emily was short-handed.

Moreover, who else was more suitable than Andrew to be her assistant?

Andrew looked at Emily expectantly. He stared at her almost without blinking.

"I do need a hand, but I have one thing to confirm," said Emily.

  "What is it?"

"Have you ever betrayed Bennett?" Emily asked again.

"Never, I swear. Emily," Andrew raised his hand and said without hesitation.

Emily nodded. She knew Andrew well, but what she was about to do was very dangerous, and she had to be careful.
