Lucas’s POV
Her body was still trembling in my tight embrace from fright about that damn nightmare I just woke her up from.
I had opened my eyes with my heart up my throat from the shrill screaming that woke me up in the first place. My first thought, someone was attacking her, someone found us and was trying to kidnap her again. But when I sprung out of bed in a blinding speed that momentarily made my head spin, I realized that she was screaming in her sleep.
The thought of losing me and my mom was so terrifying to her, she just asked me to let her go and go back to Snow. Well, not going to happen without her right by my side.
“If I’m going back, you’re coming with me, it’s not even up for discussion. I told you before, I’m not letting you go on your own. Keep denying me my second chance, keep fighting your own heart, I won’t push you further you have my word. As painful as it will be, I’m willing to give up on my desire to be with you like I want to and keep our relationship friendly only, as long as you agree to come home with me” I said softly.
She was still clutching my shirt tightly in her fist and leaning her head against my shoulder while she looked at me painfully, torn on what to do and what decision to make.
“You don’t have to think about it now. We’re both still tired and could use some more sleep. This time though, we’re definitely cuddling each other to sleep and that’s pure friendship right there as I’m not going to let you see another damn nightmare for sure, ok?” I said gently.
Pure friendship my ass, but whatever gets her to sleep next to me and ease her fears.
I was serious about one thing though. I am willing to let go of my love for her in exchange of her coming back to Snow with me and settling there. Her safety is more important to me than my obsession and attractiveness to her.
“Ok” she says in a small voice while avoiding my gaze.
We laid down on the mattress together and I brought her over to my chest and held her tightly in my arms, just like I did two nights ago.
She was still slightly shivering against me. I brought the comforter over both of us and started playing with her hair delicately.
“Did I tell you how much I like your hair? I always had a thing for straight hair. But the second I saw your curly wild hair, it became my new favorite” I murmured in a soft voice, kind of trying to get her mind off everything that’s making her stressed out.
“I used to hate it when I was a little girl. Always used to envy those girls with natural straight hair. They have it quite easy you know. Never having bad hair days is a gift that they shouldn’t take for granted. But then when I grew up, I learned a lot of tricks and things I could do to make it look good” she said back softly against my chest.
Her voice was like silk to my ears. I found myself automatically closing my eyes and savoring it, committing it to my memory.
“Straight hair is overrated if you ask me now” I said tenderly as I kept running my fingers through her strands. Each of them unique with its own curly/wavy pattern, they weren’t all the same. I could keep playing with her hair for a long time and it wouldn’t bore me, there was a special calmness and peacefulness to that magical hair, I couldn’t stop running my fingers through it.
I found myself relaxing and starting to drift off back to sleep again with her body tucked next to me, her warmth seeping into me, and her smell engulfing me.

Angelina’s POV
I felt him doze off the second his fingers stopped playing with my hair.
Mom was the only one who used to play with my hair like this. But somehow, his touch felt completely different. I found myself closing my eyes and relishing in the feeling of his fingers tracing through my golden strands.
His comfort; be it in the way he spoke to me so tenderly along with his words and willingness to sacrifice anything just to keep me safe even at the expense of his own heart, the way he held me protectively in his arms, the way he tried to distract me from my pain, or the way he was running his fingers soothingly through my hair, all these things made me fall just a little bit more for him. I don’t know how much more I can take to keep these already rocky, frail walls of mine still standing around him.
But the one thing I was sure of was that I’m not going to let my heart rule me and make me lose any of those people who have become an important part of my life in an extremely, insanely, short amount of time.
I’d rather hurt us both emotionally than watch something happen to him. I’ve made my decision then. I’m leaving him behind. I won’t let him catch me. I won’t stop until there is no trace of me left to chase at all. As painful as it was to leave him; and it was extremely painful because despite how much he inferiorities me sometimes with his crazy, annoying, smug attitude, he captured a piece of my soul forever, And it felt like I was going to cut off that part of my soul when I leave, but it was the only choice he left me with.
I don’t want him out there with me putting himself in danger or drag him away from his family. Diana would be so sad if another son left the house and put his life at risk.
That’s why, with a heavy heart and a huge lump that was so painful and big, it was almost suffocating me, I carefully and slowly slipped away from the safety of his embrace and started to get off the bed as quietly as I can.
I was moving extremely slowly as I wore my shoes, my cross body purse over my body, and started to remove the chair against the door handle.
The hardest part was unlocking the door without letting the sound of the lock alert him to my escape.
With agonizingly slow movements, it finally unlocked without a sound and I opened the door to let myself slip through.
Before I got out, I turned around and gave him one last lingering look, committing his beautiful face to my memory.
I’m sorry Lucas.
I whispered to him painfully in my head as a tear slipped past my eyelids before I left him behind and exited the room.
I moved quickly then to get myself out of the suite as fast as possible.
I had just touched the handle to the front door of the suite and turned the knob, when he said disappointedly from behind
“Sneaking out without saying goodbye is rude, Angel”
I closed my eyes and sighed, dejected by the failed attempt.
He was telling the truth about his super powerful hearing, because I was one hundred percent sure that I left him deeply asleep before I left the room.
I’ll just try my luck again, if he doesn’t kidnap me for real this time after what I just tried to do.
