Angelina’s POV
With nothing better to do and no option to leave the room to watch tv or something, I settled in on the long leather couch.
I wasn’t going to ditch him and disappear. He looked pretty deeply asleep and I probably could move that chair, unlock the door, and leave without waking him up despite his claim that his hearing is super sensitive, but I wasn’t going to try it.
I had nowhere to go. No money to buy myself a ticket out of here, if I don’t count the credit card Diana gave to me before I left the house. But I can’t exactly use that because Lucas would be able to track me down quite easily through it. And hiding in Fairbanks was not an ideal option either. He probably knew the city like the back of his hand.
A part of me wanted to try escaping from him and feel the thrill of him trying to catch up to me. Maybe I could try that. Pretty sure it wouldn’t last long though.
I laid down and tried to plan through my escape from him, where I would go, how far I’ll make him chase me, and how thrilling it will be to be caught by him, when I started drifting off into sleep too. I guess I was also as tired as he was from sleeping the few hours I was able to get on the hard floor the night before.
I got trapped into a nightmare. A heart breaking, horrifying nightmare.
I thought I would be able to get rid of my nightmares now that the lead source of them is probably burning in hell by now, but it was too much of a wishful thinking on my part.
My demon this time wasn’t Zade. It was someone else. Someone I didn’t know, someone I couldn’t even make out his features clearly as he was bathed in darkness.
I was standing in a dimly lit, small, empty place.
There were two people kneeling on their knees in front of me, bound from behind.
I came a step closer and my heart almost jumped out of my chest as I recognized them.
They were Lucas and Diana.
I started panicking as I took one more step in their direction, thinking about coming closer to untie them and save them but a deadly, cold voice I didn’t recognize stopped me in my tracks.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you”
“Who are you? What do you want?” I asked in a panicked tone.
I was straining to take a good look at him, to see who he was, but the darkness he was bathed in prevented me. He was standing directly behind them.
“I’m your worst nightmare, Angelina. You got Zade killed. Because of you, we lost him, we lost our leader, and now you have to pay for that. It wasn’t enough that he went to extreme lengths to rescue you, to the extent that he went there himself, sacrificed his life just to save you from them, you stabbed him in the back by siding with his enemies, with the Snows. You had the audacity to fall in love with his enemy, with this scumbag” he said darkly, pointing a sharp knife in Lucas’s direction.
I shook my head while the rest of my body was terribly shaking as well with the immense terror that was coursing through me.
“He was a bad person, a monster. He killed my mom!” I cried out as my tears started falling.
“She deserved that death. She took away what was his. You should be grateful that he did everything he can to save you and bring you to him. He sacrificed his life for you! He could have left you with them! To do as they wish to you without risking his life! But he favored death over letting you get hurt! How could you be so ungrateful? So disrespectful? You need to pay for that betrayal. And you will, you have my word. But first, let’s make you suffer a little bit. Who do you want me to kill first? Your boyfriend? Or his mother?” he spoke in a deadly voice.
“Please!....don’t hurt them, please. You’re right. It’s all my fault. Hurt me, punish me, but don’t kill them I’m begging you” I pleaded desperately.
“Oh I will punish you all right. Watching them die a slow agonizing death because of you is the ultimate punishment. Living what little, short life you have left drowning in guilt, knowing that because of you, they were all killed is the best torture you can suffer through”
I didn’t have time to blink before his knife plunged deep into Diana’s back. Her scream of pain tore my heart open and I found myself screaming along with her at the top of my lungs.
“Angel!”
I opened my eyes wide to see Lucas hovering over me with a deeply worried expression on his face. His hands were clutching my shoulders.
I looked around me in panic, trying to make sense of what the hell that was before my subconscious recognized it as a nightmare. It wasn’t real. But it felt so fucking real. My whole body was still trembling with terror. Diana’s scream of pain was still ringing in my head. My eyes were still shedding tears without stopping to take a break. Even after the nightmare was over.
“You okay?” Lucas asked me softly.
I looked at him and saw extreme concern on his face for me.
His question was my undoing. I broke down into hysterical sobs.
Gosh if this was real, I would have died right there, seeing Diana get a knife into her back like that.
Lucas picked me up into his arms and moved me to the bed he was sleeping on.
He placed me on his lap while he leaned against the headboard and hugged me tightly to his chest while I held on to him like I was holding on for dear life and cried my heart out, soaking through his shirt.
“Shhh Angel, it was just a nightmare. You can’t break down like this every time you see them. I told you, you have to stop letting them affect you or they will keep on appearing until they destroy you. You have to be strong, something which I know by heart that you are” he said soothingly into my ear.
“It was horrible, Lucas. Completely…..soul crushing. I can still feel the immense fear still coursing through me. It felt so real. So vivid. Oh god, I can never forget that nightmare, ever” I said in a broken tone.
“Share it with me. Tell me all about it and I will help you beat it and destroy it into dust” he said determinedly.
Through my shaky voice, I started telling him all about the dream, about the man hidden in the shadows, what he said to me about everything that happened and was about to happen being entirely my fault, and then I told him what he did to make me pay for getting Zade killed and siding with him and his family.
I blurted out in fright “He’s real, Lucas. He’s out there somewhere, probably close. Zade wasn’t lying, I can feel it in my bones. He’s going to find me, he’s going to find you, all of you, and he’s going to….” I shook my head and fell into another sob, I couldn’t even picture it happening in front of my eyes, for real. Just like how real what happened to mom in front of my eyes was.
I lifted my head and looked at him. He was giving me a tender look. He was about to say something when I cut him off in a determined tone.
“I have to leave here and disappear, I have to leave you, and you have to let me go. In your town you’re completely protected. He can never cross your borders and you don’t let strangers in. You need to go back, right now”
