Lucas’s POV

We ride in the car just the two of us with me in the driver’s seat of course.

We leave behind everyone on that border line and head for the cemetery where Alex and Angel must be already waiting for us.

Zade was thoroughly searched for any hidden weapons before he got into my car. He was smart enough not to carry anything.

Halfway there, my phone rings and I pick it up, expecting the call from my people in Canada.

“Give me the good news, Rick” I said firmly.

“It’s all taken care of, no survivors left behind including the man you had in your pocket” said Rick excitedly. He was always a little too eager to shed some blood, just like me. And that’s why we get along the most.

“That’s great, I knew you were the perfect man for the job. Now do me a favor and call David to tell him what you just told me. I have my hands a little full right now, and come home as soon as you can” I said merrily and hung up the phone.

We arrived to the edge of the cemetery and parked right next to Alex’s car.

From the far distance, I could see them standing next to each other beside the empty grave. I looked sideways at Zade to see him squinting his eyes before they almost bugged out of their sockets at the recognition.

“Th…that’s….wait” he started stammering before I cut him off sarcastically “That’s your daughter Zade. It’s normal to feel a little confused seeing her face to face considering you’ve never laid eyes on her before. Now get out, say whatever you want to say to her and let’s get this thing over with. Don’t make me drag you out of the car. I’m sure you want to keep what little dignity you have left”

I stepped out of the car while he took a few seconds to be able to move after seeing Alex who did not look so dead. I could see him battling between insanity and reality and it brought a flicker of satisfaction into me, showing him exactly how a long game is played out.

We approached them and I couldn’t help my eyes from lingering on Angel’s face. My chest tightened as I saw her pale face and stricken features. She was fighting her rapid emotions from surfacing. I could tell how traumatizing this was for her, standing face to face with the man she’s heard so much about, the man she was biologically related to against her wishes, and the man who killed the only person she has ever loved in this whole world.

Zade wasn’t looking at her. He was focused on the figure by her side who was smirking triumphantly at Zade’s blanching face as if he just ran into a ghost.

“You….died” Zade whispered in shock.

“No I didn’t. Still alive…along with my wife. And life hasn’t been kind to us lately but damn if this doesn’t feel so fucking exhilarating” Alex said fiercely.

As soon as he was finished with the last word, uninterrupted flow of gunshots going off sounded in the far distance.

“That would be your entourage taking their last breaths” I said joyfully.

His face turned angry as he threatened “That was your last mistake. My men will never stop coming after you for this. If you think these are the only loyal people I have…”

“Oh don’t worry, we took care of your other followers in Canada as well, they are all dead, too. And now, you’re about to join them” I said strictly.

He looked between me and Alex as he said coldly “You are going to regret what you’re about to do a thousand times, mark my words”

“But you won’t be here to see it that’s for sure” I said dismissively as I pulled out a long, sharp, hunting knife from my side jacket.

That shut him up as he diverted his gaze towards Angelina for the first time since he stepped foot in this place.

“You will be saved, Angelina. If not now, then in a little while, you have my word. You’re not staying here for very long, someone will save you from them I promise” he said sincerely.

Her face contorted in anger as she spit out “I don’t need your saving! You killed my mom! How can you speak to me like you haven’t killed me already? Like you haven’t ripped out my heart and tore it to shreds by killing her in front of me? You’re a monster and I would have never stayed with you. I’d rather be dead than be rescued by one of your men”

“She took you from me! She stole you and hid you away! You were mine!” he yelled at her.

“No! I was never yours. You forced yourself on her like an animal! You took away her choices in life and then killed her. I will never forgive you for what you’ve done…to her, to me, or to them” she said intensely.

He shook his head and said in surprise “You’re….you’re siding with these assholes over your own father!”

“You are not my father! You never were and you never will” she said through gritted teeth while her body shook all over from her barely contained rage.

“I think you’re right. Because my daughter would have never talked to me like that and let her head get brainwashed by a couple of thugs. Who knows how many men your mother whored herself to before she offered herself to me? You can’t be mine” he said disgustingly.

“You son of a bitch! You don’t talk about her like that! She had more honor than you ever did, you sick, ba…” she screamed at him and finally lost her temper as she tried to launch herself at him with her bare hands before I caught her firmly by the waist and held her back by talking to her gently “If you really want him hurt, Angel, then you have to do it with something other than your mouth or hands. Take the knife and do as you wish with it. You can kill him, I won’t hold you back or stop you. You deserve to get your revenge as much as we do. The choice is all yours”

She looked at me in surprise, her outburst forgotten for the moment as she tried to tell whether I was being serious or not about her killing the man we’ve been trying for months to end.

I pulled out her hand and put the knife inside her palm as I said softly “If it makes you feel just a little bit better, killing him with your own hands, then you can go ahead, Angel”

“He is right Angelina. You have my blessing if you want to kill him yourself. You are totally entitled to take his life just as he took away yours” said Alex in a supporting tone.

I have to admit, I gave Angelina the chance to kill him without even consulting with Alex; seeing as he was the one planning on doing that after I had my fun with him, and it surprised me a little that he was giving her that opportunity when he didn’t really know her all that much.

She turned her head back and looked at him. They exchanged a silent gaze before he nodded his head tightly at her.

When did these two get that close?

She barely spared him a glance since she met him and now they’re having secret nods all of a sudden?

No, there’s something else I’m missing here. And I intend to find out exactly what it is after dealing with Zade.
