Angelina’s POV

“You knew from the beginning?” I asked her in a shocked tone.

She smiled at me sadly “Yes, Lucas knew you were going to be in that car from the start. He knew your name even before he met you. But when you lied about it, he went along with you”

How the hell did he know my name?

How did he know I was going to be in that car yesterday?

And what else does he know?

His mind games were driving me crazy.

I don’t even know what’s real and what’s not anymore at this point.

“If he knew, why did he stay quiet?” I asked her in confusion.

“I don’t really know how that kid’s mind works. But I guess when he realized how much he really scared you yesterday, he knew you weren’t going to tell him the truth. So he decided to seek it out another way. David told me everything that happened in there. You were going to go with that man even though you knew he wasn’t your real father. You knew he was going to take you to Zade. Can I know why?” she asked carefully.

I looked through my window, unable to look through her eyes and come up with another lie or dare to tell her the truth.

Truth was, I just wanted to go with that man fully knowing I was going to end up with Zade. I don’t know what that man wants with me but I just wanted to escape Lucas in any way I can. I also wanted to leave to stop Zade from hurting them some more. By now, I know Zade will never stop trying to take me and this family is going to pay the price if they keep me with them. They paid enough and I wasn’t going to cause them any more of that by seeking their help and protection.

“Do you really want to go to him?” she asked me in a low voice when I didn’t answer her.

Her tone was hesitant as if she doesn’t want to believe that I would really prefer to go to him out of my own free will.

Again, I didn’t want to lie to her because every time I have to roll out another lie to their faces, my heart hurts a little bit more and I despise myself lie after lie.

I’ve never been one to lie to anyone before in my whole life. I was always an honest person, My mom made sure to raise me that way. And in the course of only two days of doing that constantly, I find myself drowning with guilt, choking in it. Dying over destroying every moral thing my mom instilled in me.

I wondered if she was watching me right now, what would she be thinking about my actions?

Would she be disappointed in me?

I knew I was.

I turned to her and asked her pleadingly “Lucas has my real ID, can you please make him give it to me and let me go my own way? I can’t go anywhere without it, please Diana”

Her face contorted in pain and for the love of me, I don’t understand why. She barely knew me at all, she knows I’m hiding something, she knows me a liar. How she could even trust me at all and come all the way to save me from whatever Lucas was planning is completely beyond me.

She should be relieved that I want to leave their town and take whatever problems I brought to them as far away from them as I can, but she doesn’t feel that way at all.

She doesn’t give me an answer, instead, she does what I did a few minutes ago, she turns her head towards her own window and stares through it at the road, deep in thought.

We arrive home and start getting out of the car.

Diana heads toward the house without giving me an indication of her answer, and I silently follow behind her.

Just before we cross half the front yard, I hear sharp tires skidding loudly behind me just in time to see Lucas and David in their SUV, Lucas was behind the wheel and he was driving like a maniac as he passed through the half closing gate and stopped the car just a few inches before hitting the car we just got out of.

I could see him fuming from a mile a way. Diana and I stopped midway and turned towards him as he and David got out of the car.

Mathew was closest to him, he stopped next to him and murmured something to him after which Mathew retrieved a set of keys out of his jacket’s side pocket and handed them to him.

He took them and kept walking in my direction, anger rolling off him in waves.

He directed his icy cold eyes to me as he said strictly “You’re coming with me”

Before I could react or say anything, Diana steps in front of me in an instant and stands in his way.

“She’s not. Wasn’t I clear enough earlier?” she said tightly.

He looks at her in a mixture of anger and frustration “Oh you were perfectly clear. You want to make that phone call? go ahead and do it. We both know nothing will come out of it, you know why? Because I’m the only one you’ve got left that can protect this town and that person will tell you the same thing. You didn’t want the girl to leave this house? Fine. I have no problems with that. I’m going to get my answers right here, right now. But nothing you say to me is going to stop me from getting it…. From her” he yelled at her.

I have to hand it to Diana, she stood rock solid against her son, not deterred or shaken by his outburst at all.

I heard the front door open as Sara and April stepped out to see what all those noises were for.

“If you want to get to her, you’ll have to go through me first. Now tell me, What are you going to do about that? And you better think twice before doing whatever it is you decide to do” she threatened him darkly.

He stared at her with a stricken look on his face, disbelief written all over it.

Before things could escalate, I stepped up and came to stand by her side, she tried to shove me back behind her but I refused to budge.

I looked at Lucas and spoke timidly “Lucas, I don’t want to cause any problems between you two. Just give me my ID and let me go. I’ll leave and you’ll never hear from me again I swear to god”

He took a step towards me, a dangerous look on his face, and I had to fight real hard to remain in my place instead of cowering behind Diana to protect myself from that murderous look.

“You’re not going anywhere Angelina. Not until you tell me who the fuck you are” he said darkly.

“We both know by now that I will not tell you a thing. Just. Let. Me. Go” I said through gritted teeth.

“If you won’t talk on your own I will make you talk in no time. And you don’t really wanna try me on that because I don’t think you’ll be able to withstand a lot of it” he said in a low menacing voice.

My eyes stung so harshly at that promise and my knees buckled from under me, but I refused to cower in front of him.

“So what? You’re going to torture your answers out of me? Like you did to that man yesterday? Like you did to the other man today? What will you do Lucas? Hit me? Shoot me? Break me? You can do your worst to me. Still won’t tell you a damn thing” I fired back through my falling tears.

Honestly, where all that courage was coming from, I don’t have the slightest idea. Must be the adrenaline taking over.

He smiled at me coyly “We’ll see about that”

“Lucas Snow, If you take another step towards her, I will… “ Diana started to warn him but he didn’t let her finish as he grabbed my arm and started to drag me in the direction of the small house that belonged to Mathew and Sara, but damn if I’ll give up that easily and let him drag me to hell without putting up one hell of a fight.

Just before Diana started to move in our direction, to stop him no doubt, I took matters into my own hands as I kicked his knees very hard from behind and sent him falling hard on them, yanking my arm free in the process.

I backed away from him just in time to see him stand up and look at me in genuine surprise in reaction to my unexpected movement.

I looked at him with a triumphant, challenging look on my face at catching him off guard.

Time to show a side of the real Angelina.

God! I can’t wait to kick his ass for everything he said and did to me in those two days.
