Angelina’s POV
I don’t know how much my heart can still be able to withstand more stress before giving up on me.
But somehow it was still functioning even after Lucas shot the man claiming to be my father without even diverting his gaze from me.
It startled me so much, the sound of the shot in that close range, and in this confined space compared to the vastness of that mountain, it was more terrifying like nothing I’ve seen before. I jumped in my spot and shook immensely at the booming sound of that shot.
The sick bastard is fucking crazy!
He wasn’t aiming with his eyes but still, as I looked at the definitely dead man; unwillingly, I saw the bullet hole right in the fucking middle of his forehead.
I wondered how many times he needed to practice that move to nail it so perfectly and how many people died in the process of achieving that precision.
My wide eyes went back to him and my blood ran cold as I saw the smile on his face.
“Oops! I killed your father” he said nonchalantly.
It was right then that I knew I got trapped.
Somehow, although I have no idea how, he knew the cover up story was made up and that this man was working for Zade.
It wasn’t me, I was sure, because I fought like hell to keep my face from betraying how utterly confused I was when he introduced him as Ben Collins while I was expecting the real one, Zade.
I thought I nailed it, but maybe I wasn’t good enough. Or maybe he just knew from the beginning and was just playing a stupid mind game on me to see if I will tell the truth or not.
Either way, I’m definitely in deep shit. But not as deep as I thought I was when I thought he caught Zade.
He still doesn’t have the slightest clue what all this was about and I intend to fight through tooth and nail to keep it that way.
“We both apparently know he wasn’t” I said coldly.
My tone takes him by surprise as he tilts his head and regards me with narrowed eyes.
He thought I was going to keep lying, act angry that he killed him, shout at him, or act terrified like I did the last time he shot someone right in front of me.
“Finally, something honest coming from that lying, sinful mouth of yours, Angelina” he said joyfully while his eyes traveled slowly towards my mouth and lingered there for a few seconds before returning to my eyes.
The fucking psychopath has no fucking manners to keep his eyes where they should be!
I pursed them as I felt them tingle from that mere look, trying not to show him that I was affected by it.
His look turns from amused to dead serious as he speaks strictly “I suggest you continue to keep things honest if you don’t want me to take another approach with you. Because you are not getting out of this office before you tell me everything about you and it better be the fucking truth because I don’t have any patience left to entertain your stupid lies anymore”
I barely contain my shivers from showing him how much his threat scared the shit out of me.
Was he going to hurt me if I kept my mouth shut?
Honestly, it wouldn’t even surprise me at that point, but there was a small part of me that actually thought that Lucas would never harm me in order to get me talking. I guess that part was stupid and naive, because as I’m staring into his eyes, I can clearly see the real intentions behind them.
He would do it.
How though?
I guess I’m about to see shortly.
“I’m not…” I started to say coldly but I was cut off by someone calling his name from the office entrance.
We both turned around and saw the man named Mathew; who was actually Sara’s husband, staring hard at Lucas.
He gave a side glance to David who was standing next to him and addressed him strictly “Diana wants to talk you” then he went back to looking at Lucas.
“Your mom is in the car outside. Said that if you don’t allow the girl to get in the car with her, she’s coming inside the office and taking her herself” he said firmly.
David rushed outside when he heard that she was here.
Oh Diana! I don’t deserve you saving me and spiting your son over me!
“Oh come on! What the hell is it about her that she’s so keen to protect? She’s not going anywhere. Go tell her I’m the leader and my word will be followed above everyone else’s” he said angrily.
“Yeah… she told me if you say that, then I have to tell you that she can take that leadership away right from under you with one phone call only” he said pointedly as if he was insinuating a hidden meaning that only Lucas was supposed to catch up on.
And catch up on it, he certainly did, as his face became cold and he glared at Mathew for the next ten seconds.
“Take her” he said darkly without even staring in my direction.
While I felt extremely relieved and touched that Diana was standing up to her son for me, I still felt a whole lot of guilt because I could clearly see that Lucas was extremely pissed off and boiling on the inside even if he wasn’t showing it in front of me.
Maybe he was even hurt that she’d choose me over her own son and threaten to take his leadership position, even though I didn’t know how she could be able to do that with just one phone call.
But I mean come on! What he was about to do to me was so wrong and I was sure that if I was in her place, I would do the exact same thing.
Regardless of the fact that I didn’t actually want to be saved by her.
I was willing to accept whatever Lucas had in store for me because I was just so done with lying. So done with being threatened and scared of being hurt for information.
Mathew came inside and held my elbow gently as he walked me out of the warehouse and into the back seat of another car, just as David was getting out of it.
My head snapped left to see Diana staring at me seriously.
It was the first serious look she gave me ever since I met her yesterday and it made my face red under that look. Now I get why her kids always listen to whatever she tells them to do. She has that aura when she’s upset about something. It was like magic, it makes you feel like you would do anything she would ask of you.
“Ms. Snow?” I said in a low voice as she kept her fierce look on me.
“It’s Diana, and I am so mad that you came here without telling me first” she said reproachfully as the car started moving, taking us back home.
I lowered my head down to my intertwined hands that were still shaky from what I had to endure inside that office, as I answered her guiltily “I didn’t want to cause anymore fights between you and Lucas over me. I’m no body to you Diana, you shouldn’t…”
“Oh for the love of God! Come here” she said fiercely as she took me in a tight hug and buried my head into her chest.
“Don’t you ever say that you’re no body to me, ever Angelina, you hear me?” I stiffened when she called my real name and she felt it.
She cupped my face softly and made me look at her as she said kindly “I knew your real name from the beginning. And I know half your story since last night. I know you lost your mom and I know how much you’re hurting over that. I don’t blame you for lying nor for hiding who you really are. I get that you’re scared of something and it made you do all of this and I am not going to pressure you like my stupid, insensitive son to tell me anything. I just want to take care of you, so please let me and don’t ever do something behind my back again, promise me”
I shook my head, still dumbfounded that they were all on to me from the start. She knew I was being dishonest and yet she never made me feel it, or scorned me for it.
