The Howling Heart's Forgiveness

Chapter 150

Chapter 150

It only takes two minutes for Rune, Tristan, Ashton, and me to reach the Pack House. We hide in the shadows, scanning the area for any wolf on guard by the large building, only finding two wolves standing by the closed double doors of the Pack House. Their relaxed attention is captured by their cellphones as the sounds of moaning can be heard over in the quiet night. It seems these wolves are watching porn while on duty when they should be more concerned for their Alpha and Luna’s safety.

[Who the fuck left them in charge of guarding the Pack House?”] I ask Rune through our link. He lets out a snort before looking at me, blood lust in his eyes that he keeps in check.

[Valor did. These are his trusted guards who dragged me to my room the night I found him balls deep in Tanya.] My mouth hangs open and I stare at him in shock. To think these idiots were the wolves who kept Rune locked in his room.

[Caspian said they were easy to take down and honestly, I am starting to see why.] Rune adds, nudging his chin towards the doors.

[Shall we end their sorry excuse of a life?] I ask, getting a nod from Rune. Signaling for Tristan and Ashton to stay back, Rune and I silently creep up the steps thankful that the wind was in our favour as it blew our scents away from these wolves. It isn’t until we are beside these Warriors that they notice us, and by then Rune and I had already sliced their throats open with our claws. Blood gushes from the wounds we left but I feel no remorse. They followed Valor’s orders without hesitation. It was only a matter of time before someone fought against them and ended their lives.

With these wolves out of the way, I signal for Tristan and Ashton to join us before we quickly enter the Pack House, the doors creaking when they open and I wince. In the dead of the night, this sound will be the one thing that gives us away. These words seem to be true as an Omega stares at us with wide eyes. She opens her mouth to scream but I lunge at her, quickly covering my blood-coated hand over her mouth.

“Don’t scream. Don’t link anyone.” I whisper, watching as a look of recognition flashes through her eyes. I know this she-wolf, had helped patch up her wounds many times after Tanya had attacked her. It seems rumors about Tanya hurting the Omegas were true as I noticed this wolf – Sarah – sporting a few new bruises on her very skinny body. Was Tanya starving them as well?

“Will you stay quiet if I remove my hand?” I asked Sarah in a soft whisper, Rune standing guard as the Omega shakes her head yes. I immediately take my hand away from her mouth and back away as tears form in this Omega’s eyes. She looks between Rune and me, hope radiating off of her in waves.

“Are you and Rune here to save us, Brynlee?” She asks and I smile.

“Yes, Sarah. We are.” I answer. Sarah grins, her eyes shifting around the halls before she takes my hand in hers, not caring about the blood that lingers on her face.

“Can I link the girls I trust and tell them to make their way to the laundry room in the basement? I want to keep them safe and away from Valor’s men.” She asks and I turn to Rune. He nods, telling Sarah that it's only for the girls she trusts and to make sure not to mention us. After promising to keep her reasoning vague, we let Sarah go and watch as she runs towards the Pack kitchen where the entrance to the basement is.

“Can we trust her?” Ashton asks and I smile.

“We can. She is one of the Omegas that taught me about edible plants in the forest after I helped her deal with Tanya.” I answer. With Sarah gone, we make quick work of climbing the stairs, telling Tristan and Ashton to follow mine and Rune’s footsteps exactly. These stairs creek if you make one wrong step and I am not about to give us away with this noise.

Rune is the first to stop moving, holding his hand out to stop us while putting a finger to his lips. We were so close to reaching the second floor but it seemed we had met another obstacle. From our spot on the steps, I catch three warriors crowding the landing, their hushed whispers reaching our ears.

“I haven’t heard from the wolves on patrol.” The skinnier of the three calls out, worry in his voice. I can tell by the way his voice cracks that he is still young, probably a Warrior in training.

“We are trying to reach them but nothing is coming back through the link.” The taller one states with a low growl, running his fingers through his hair.

“It’s like they vanished.” He adds. I look to Rune who has a smug look in his eye and I stop myself from laughing. Of course we know what happened to these wolves. They were drugged by us in an attempt to keep our movements from being noticed. Unfortunately, this also meant the absence of these wolves would sooner or later be noticed as well.

“Alpha Valor keeps asking if something is wrong, but I have no clue how to answer.” The skinnier one calls out with a slight whine to his voice, the young wolf letting out a frustrated growl.

“You don’t, Riley. You are only sixteen and in training. Leave Valor to me and Liam.” The taller wolf says. My eyes widen with surprise at hearing Riley’s name. He was one of the pups I would watch a few years ago. He was an impatient pup, always getting bored or frustrated easily. Clearly that hasn’t changed.

Giving a signal for Ashton and Tristan to hand us the tranquilizer guns and stay there, I creep forward with Rune and as soon as we are close enough, we drug the two older wolves, leaving Riley to stare at us in shock ant panic.

“If you do anything, Riles, I won’t make you cupcakes.” I threatened before Riley could shout. He shakes, his fear evident as Rune and I let the two Warriors drop to the floor and I giggle. Riley was easy to scare.

“Wa-wait… Miss Brynlee?” Riley asks, disbelief in his eyes.

“What…what is going on?” I smile, pulling my mask down so that Riley can see my face. Rune watches on in surprise, moving to pull my mask up but I slap his hand away and glare at my Mate.

“A coup d'état.” I answer, watching understanding wash over Riley’s face.

“You are here to kill Valor.” It’s a statement, not a question, and I nod.

“Then who the hell is this man beside you?” Riley asks, making me clasp my hand over my mouth to stifle the laughter that threatens to give our position away.

“Goddess.” Rune growls in frustration, turning to look at me with raised brows.

“How come everyone instantly recognizes you, but not me?” He asks.

“Maybe it’s because you were an asshole to everyone.” I state, getting a playful growl out of him. By now Tristan and Ashton have joined us and I hand Ashton the gun I borrowed. Riley continues watching us, eyes wide with surprise to see that we are not alone.

“Seriously, Miss Brynlee, who are the wolves with you?” Riley asks, getting a glare from Rune.

“You really don’t recognize me, the true Heir of Pine Moon?” He asks the teen. This seems to be what Riley needs to hear as his eyes widen with shock and he instantly bows, his body shaking with fear.

“I’m sorry, Alpha Rune.” Riley states, his voice quivering. Rune lets out a sigh, reaching out and helping Riley to stand straight.

“Don’t worry about it, kid. But can you do us a favour?” He says in a calmer tone, Riley visibly relaxing.

“Wh-what is it?” Riley asks, looking excited to be a part of our plan.

“Could you sound the alarms in ten minutes? I want to give Valor a rude awakening when we reach his room.” Rune explains. I smirk, realizing what Rune is doing, and support this idea. Knowing Valor, he will be working on breaking Tanya using sex as a weapon. Jett told us it’s what he did to Luna Clairice and after knowing Valor all my life, I know for certain it is what he is doing now.

Riley agrees instantly, wishing us luck and stating how he can’t wait to see Pine Moon change for the better.

“Remind me to get to know our wolves better when we take over this Pack.” Rune grumbles out, running a hand through his hair. I giggle, covering my mouth with my hands to stifle the sound while Tristan looks on in amusement.

“I can’t believe no one is recognizing you right away. Clearly they all liked Brynlee more.” Ashton says, shaking his head. Rune glares at him, irritation seeping out of my Mate, but he lets out a sigh, agreeing that the Pack did like me more than anyone else before stating we should continue making our way to Valor’s room.

With two more of Valor’s men taken care of and another ally on our side, Rune takes the lead and we turn to start making our way to the third floor. We are not so careful this time, wanting to make it to Valor in these ten minutes when Tristan suddenly stops as we are halfway up the steps, his body shaking with rage as he does his best to calm his breathing.

“Delilah just told me she found the dungeon you mentioned.” He reveals, his Alpha power leaking out of him from his anger.

“They found a few Rogues there on the verge of death. Many are she-wolves.” Rune lets out a low grumble of anger and I take a deep breath. It seems this Pack has become worse than what we thought possible.

“Has she called Odette and her team over to help them?” I ask through clenched teeth, the need to tear into Valor and his whore Tanya becoming so strong that I want to disregard what little caution we are taking and rush ahead.

“She has. Odette is almost there.” I nod; happy we allowed Odette to have a cell phone for anyone to call her in case of an emergency. Thankfully, this decision has proven helpful.

“Tell Delilah to keep us in the loop of what’s going on with these Rogues.” Rune says, Tristan nodding his head. I turn my gaze up the stairs and take a deep breath. Pine Moon will need a fresh start when we are done with it. Too much has happened in this Pack, things that have tainted this land with darkness.

“Let’s go.” I call out, taking another step up the staircase.

“Valor and Tanya are waiting for their execution.”
