Chapter 116

ADRIA’S POV.

“We just need to get past them, and find the portal. They’re not that hard to outrun!” Lucien said, turning, and running.

“Alright!” I shouted back, as we ran hand in hand, from the mass of black scorpions.

They crawled over themselves, making strange clicking noises as they tumbled forth.

My heart was crazed. If they happened to catch up with us, we would get stung by almost all of them, and that would mean getting filled up with poison.

“Damn! I don’t think we can use our abilities!” Lucien shouted, and I realized we were running at the speed humans recognized as fast, but slow to Lycans and Vampires.

“Damn it!” I shouted, trying to run as fast, as I used to when I was with Derek.

“It doesn’t work. Don’t even bother.” He said, and I looked back at the scorpions, and screamed.

They were pouring over themselves, running to us.

“Shit!” Lucien suddenly exclaimed, and pushed us towards the left.

Coming from the right were more of the black scorpions. I hadn’t even had time to analyze my surroundings.

We were in a vast expanse of land. It looked like a desert, or was probably a desert. It was almost like the one I saw in my dream, ages ago.

The dream where so many versions of me were crying, and I had to climb a tree after running from a hooded figure.

Then I fell, and screamed, as a scorpion climbed my leg. Lucien immediately swatted it with his finger, and half-dragged me, as I tried to get to my feet.

“Where do we see the portal! There’s nothing in sight, just this barren land!” I shrieked, and Lucien looked around.

“There has to be a place we’d get to.” He replied, panting, and I tried to take in deep breaths.

Finally, after running as fast as we could with the scorpions on the chase, we saw the portal, but we had to jump high to get there.

“You go first, prepare to jump!” Lucien shouted, and I began to prepare for a rather huge jump.

However, as we got closer, I felt the scorpions on me. Lucien let out a grunt, and I knew a few of them had caught up to him too.

“Damn!” I shouted, and jumped high, reaching the circular portal, and climbing in. I waited on the very edge, trying not to fall. “Here. Take my hand!” I screamed, stretching out my hand to Lucien, who had more scorpions catching up to him.

“I’ll drag you down. Go! I’ll jump in very soon!” He replied, and accidentally, my foot slipped, and I fell into the portal with a scream. I hadn’t intended on leaving Lucien for any reason.

I fell on the wet leaves of a forest floor, and hit my head hard on a rock.

“Agh!” I groaned, taking my hands to the back of my head. They came off with blood, and I grunted, sitting up. I swatted the scorpions that hadn’t fallen off, and looked at my leg, which had red circles where they had stung me.

The sting actually hurt a lot, and I applied a lot of pressure on it. I knew their sting was poisonous, but that little poison couldn’t affect me, could it?

If it had been more scorpions, like the thousands chasing us earlier, then I could have worried more.

Where was Lucien? Had he been unable to jump through the portal?

As the thought settled in my mind, I jumped to my feet, and tried to jump back out of the portal, but immediately I touched it, it disappeared.

“Lucien!” I called. “Lucien!!” I called once more.

Where was he? Was he still there with the scorpions? No matter how strong he was, his body would be unable to resist poison coming from so many scorpions.

I began to panic, breathing hard, and looking around.

My eyes watered, and I began to sob in fear.

Where was he? Where could he be? I couldn’t have lost him, could I?

No, he was still somewhere else. He was somewhere else, waiting to see me.

Maybe the portal had taken them to different locations?

I wanted to believe badly that he was somewhere, waiting, but I couldn’t just begin to fool myself.

He hadn’t entered the portal. I was the only one who went through it.

“Damn it! Damn it! Lucien!” I screamed, unable to leave.

The portal had totally closed up, and I was in a wet forest with tall trees surrounding me.

Everything looked gloomy, and there was little light for me to see.

No, I couldn’t have lost him that easily.

Just then, something raced past me, making the leaves ruffle, and I turned, sharply.

“Lucien?” I called, but there was no reply. It was then I realized it was no ordinary forest. How could a forest be without a single sound? There weren’t birds chirruping, nor insects making sounds, or animals calling out to each other.

There was simply no noise.

Something else raced behind me in the leaves once more, and I turned sharply.

All around, the leaves began to rustle as invisible things shot past them, and no one taught me to run.

I ran as fast as I could, and then, I saw them, arising out of the leaves, ground, trees, from everywhere.

Just like the video game Lucien had talked about, they looked like Zombies. Only that their skins were a pale white, and some had bones beginning to stick out where their flesh had been decayed. They had no eyes in their sockets, and no teeth in their mouths.

They followed me, running quickly, and I screamed out loud.

They were dead bodies, bodies with little remnants of their souls in them.

I began to race blindly in between trees, through grasses, stepping on streams, when all of a sudden, one jumped in front of me, and cast out its hand.

Instantly, I felt something being pulled out of me. It felt like it was trying to separate something from me, like it was tearing out my soul.

My senses went dim, I couldn’t see well, couldn’t hear properly, nor could I feel properly.

Hot liquid began to run down my eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, but from the smell of it…

It wasn’t just any liquid… it was blood.
