Chapter 45
Chapter 45
ADRIA’S POV
Although I was grateful to see her fighting for me, it was a little weird to hear her call me her friend. We barely knew each other, and even though she had said it just to get the girl off my back, everyone would expect us to hang out together and I wasn’t sure how my friends would take that.
You know, among friends who’ve been together for a long time, it’s kind of hard to let someone new in.
“I shouldn’t mess with you? You’re hilarious. You come to school one day and decide the smartest kid in college is your best friend, who doesn’t want that? Well, let me tell you, Adria here has people she mingles with so I’d suggest you should be the one to sulk somewhere and not to mess with me because you do not know me at all and the first thing you’d want to know about me is that when I get real angry, I get real violent!” The girl shouted, and I saw Monica’s face turn red.
“What!?” Monica shrieked.
“Monica…” I called softly, rising to my feet and putting a gentle hand on her arm but she shrugged it off.
“This bitch just insulted me!” She shouted, and went down to meet the girl who had spoken.
“I don’t have any business with you. My business is with Adria who’s dating a professor who’s taking her course. Isn’t that favoritism?’ The girl asked with her eyes so wide that they threatened to pop.
“Like I said earlier, go and ask Professor Lucien and stop blabbing here like an idiot or if that’s hard to do, then you can also snag a teacher that will favor you!” Monica shouted, and the girl scoffed in frustration.
“What the hell is wrong with you!? I’m not talking to you!”
“If anyone else has something to say, say it now like someone sensible, not hang around whispering stupid things you’ve not confirmed like chickens. If you can’t say it then don’t whisper it because I’m not scared to get into a physical or legal fight. Ever heard of defamation? Slander? If you have then you can safely whisper and point fingers at her for dating the wrong person.” Monica said, and they all started to disperse, unable to say a word.
A little chuckle escaped me. They were all cowards. Monica had gotten rid of them In minutes. I especially loved where she brought the legal aspect into it. It scared them all. Even the girl who had started it all kicked a table and walked out.
I knew it wasn’t due to favoritism that they were all mad that I was close to Professor Lucien. They were mad because they were jealous. They had tried their best to get close to Lucien but strangely I was the only girl in the school that Lucien stuck with and of course, it called for suspicions.
Monica turned slowly towards me and had a shy smile on her face. It made her look adorable. The kitten seconds ago and suddenly transformed into a ferocious tiger, attacking and refused to stop and then after attacking, it had become a kitten once more.
I chuckled and packed up our books.
“Let’s study somewhere else.” I told her, and she nodded then picked up her bag before we headed out of the empty class.
I didn’t mind keeping Monica close. After all it was possible for a group of friends to have other friends, and since I and Monica had two classes in common, we could be reading partners on certain occasions and I knew Stacy would also like it if she heard Monica stood up for me.
“I know a really good place where we can read.” Monica said to me as we climbed down the stairs.
“Really. Where?”
“It’s outside school but is very famous for having lots of students there to read. It gives a sense of responsibility. When you see others reading, it makes you want to read also.” She explained, holding the straps of her bag.
“That sounds really nice. I don’t have any classes left, do you have any?” I asked and she scrunched up her face thinking and then shook her head slowly but I could tell from her expression that she had one or two classes left.
“No. I don’t think I do.” She finally said more confidently.
“Oh come on. You do.” I countered with a smile.
“I can miss a class. It’s not much. It’s just a class. A single boring class.” She admitted, looking back at the building.
“I’ll wait.” I insisted, turning her towards the building.
“It’s not in this building. It’s a little far from here.” She whined, not wanting to give it a chance.
“Wherever it is, I’ll be waiting. I’ll be there.” I said, pointing to a bench under a tree.
“Hmm, but…” She was saying but I was already making my way to the bench. I sat on it and waved at her. She stared at me for a while before waving back at me, and turning to leave. I watched her go and smiled before taking out my books.
For a straight A student like me, a single moment wasn’t to be wasted.
I waited for an hour and then saw Monica finally coming back looking exhausted. I packed up my books, cradling them in my arms before getting up and when she saw me, her beautiful face lit up in a smile.
But then, she took out her phone and stared at it and then she stopped, still staring at it.
I walked to her, and she dropped her phone.
“What’s that?” I asked, and she gave a little nervous laugh.
“Nothing much.” She replied, but I took her phone instead and saw she was on the student platform and there was a post there.
It read: THERE’S A MALE PROFESSOR DATING AND JUGGLING IN BETWEEN FEMALE STUDENTS!
My eyes widened and I didn’t know why I thought of I and Lucien. Not that I thought he was the one but because I knew he was also guilty of dating one of his students—me.
It just made me feel a little wary, but her next words nearly made me choke on my spit.
“I think it’s Professor Lucien.”
